BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- Didn’t we just have an 8 day break from UD hoops? It’s not like CJ, MJ, Luke and the other guys can’t use the time to rest up, enjoy the holidays and get ready for the rest of the season tho, right? While we all wait for the BU game, let’s hit the links:

-- Doug Harris definitely needs to get himself a new headline writer at the DDN. Here is the one for the Presby game preview:

Flyers plan to put on show at UD Arena

BG went out of his way to apologize to Blue Hose Head Coach Greg Nibbert, according to post-game comments on DaytonFlyers.com:

“First off, I would like to apologize to Presbyterian College. I thought that the headline in today's newspaper was very disrespectful to our program. At no time did our players say anything about planning on doing what the headline said. Our guys go out there and they are supposed to play hard and play with great intensity and it doesn't matter who we are playing. I told their coach that I apologized that the headline was inappropriate."

BG is absolutely right…and he handled it in a very proactive way.

-- Sweet write-up on Juwan Staten and Oak Hill after their victory Monday night against Columbus Walnut Ridge. Juwan was named MVP for his team in the game

-- Bob Gibbons has Juwan and his fellow Class of 2010 UD recruits ranked #22, while X checks in at #30:

-- The “Play of the Year” in the NBA:

-- How about those Mouskies, huh? Lose a nail biter to Butler on a controversial clock error and a few of the Eggsavior players not only charged the scorer’s table, but it appears one of them ripped a water fountain off the wall at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. Nothing says ‘class’ like forcibly removing plumbing fixtures!

-- Gene Hackman will not be happy when he hears about this!

-- I don’t know who sounded dumber during the wait for the official ruling in that game, Brent Musberger or Bobby Knight. They both repeatedly said that time was going to be put back on the clock, when anyone with half a brain knew that the reverse was true, that time would instead be taken off.

Fortunately, Rush the Court is there with the video, a detailed explanation, a proposed rule change and even an added bonus: Terrell Holloway punk pictorial goodness!

-- Lance McAlister on the situation:

“The behavior was nothing short of embarrassing. Several players had to be restrained from going into the stands and from going after the clock operator. XU assistant Pat Kelsey should get credit for saving Terrell Holloway from a potential arrest and season long suspension. And to top things off, the water fountain outside the XU locker room was ripped off the wall. Real classy. As one Butler official told me, "Worst behavior from an opposing team I've seen in my 20 plus years around here". So.... that's back to back Xavier games that the players have apparently wanted to rumble. I was excited to see this series continue. But honestly, after Sean Miller whined about the free throw disparity at Cintas last year, the elbows thrown by Jason Love yesterday and the behavior Saturday, not sure it's worth it. I've always appreciated and respected the "Xavier Way"....I shudder to think this is the "New Xavier Way". If you're not embarrassed as a Xavier fan then you have indeed lost your way.”

-- “Detroit Flyer” reminded us all on the UD Pride MB that this was not the first time that Butler has been the beneficiary of a controversial call by the zebras this year:

Note the decided difference in reaction by the UD football team after the call vs. the shenanigans the X players pulled.

-- “Flyers Fieldhouse” and “Flyer Faithful” are not the only hoops websites taking a long winters nap…in the middle of the season that they are supposed to be covering. Other “Rip van Winkle Award” nominees are:

WeFlyHighBallers.com, asleep at the switch since November 14th:

National Hoops Report, MIA since November 23rd:

Indy Star recruiting blogger Jeff Rabjohns, leaving his partner Kyle Neddenriep in the lurch since November 10th:

InsidePrepSports.com took a nap a day later:

Altho the MB, unfortunately, is regularly filled with the pontifications of “Face the Nation.”

-- How many people can say that they once pinch hit for Ted Williams, Roger Maris and Carl Yastrzemski; caught 4 TD passes from Y.A. Tittle and counseled Broncos Hall of Fame QB John Elway? One. This guy:

-- I always knew that the National Enquirer was a dirtbag rag, but this represents a new ‘journalistic’ low even for them:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704238104574602293033609948.html

I had to take a slow walk thru a car wash after reading that crap, I felt so dirty. The ‘gentleman’ who runs American Media (the parent company of the Enquirer) is a guy named David Pecker.

Way to live up to your surname, Ace.

-- Speaking of dirty, check out the slimy details on Findlay Prep, the Las Vegas-based HS hoops factory. Deadspin is there:

Just a minor correction from a South Carolina resident. The nickname for PC is the Blue Hose, not the Blue Hens:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presbyterian_College

The PC mascot is the Blue Hose, represented by a Scotsman clad in a kilt with blue stockings.

Is there a Presby ladies basketball team? If so, are they also called the Hose?
