BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- It’s the middle of summer, so what else do Flyer fans have to dream about but recruits -- one very young and the rest a bit older.

-- Congratulations to former Flyer great and native Detroiter Ryan Perryman on the birth of his son. I played pickup hoops with RP’s cousin Jordan on Sunday and he remembered that I knew Ryan when he saw my “Dayton Flyers” jersey and gave me the news. Let’s see -- that would make your boy UD Class of 2032, right Ryan?

-- BG and his staff have been full-court pressing Michiganders Percy Gibson and LaDontae Henton so far in the month of July. You can add Clevelander Anton Grady to that list:

-- Meanwhile, Trey McDonald, the other Michigan big man that UD has been after is now getting some attention from Miami (and not the one in Oxford, OH):

(Sorry about the synopsis of the article giving you a link to subscriber-only content on The U website. Email Alex Schwartz at the Northstar Basketball blog and tell him to stop teasing us like that).

-- Looks like “Little Luke” alias Brian Fabrizius (who at 6’10” is actually taller than his big bro) is headed to prep school next year, according to ChicagoHoops.com (scroll down required):

-- Another hoops recruit with a great name -- Grandy Glaze:

The Grandy Man gets bonus points because he’s from my alma mater, Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, MA.

-- Meet Ricardo Ledo, living proof of why dropping the April recruiting period was a stupid idea:

-- Think the life of a college assistant coach is glamorous? Think again:

-- “10 Coaches on the Hot Seat” according to Rivals.com, including UC’s Mick Cronin, our old friend “Juicy Brucey” at Illinois and Kevin Dillard’s buddy Chris Lowery at SIU:

-- Another Rivals.com article, this one a puff piece on OP and the rebuilding job he faces at DePaul:

http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1100207

-- On a related note, OP gives his side of the story in the case of 2010 DePaul recruit Walter Pitchford and his request for a release from his LOI. Pitchford’s initial appeal to the NCAA had been denied:

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=5371252

-- An hour after I wrote this, Zagsblog broke the story that DePaul had granted Pitchford his release:

-- I know… I know -- nobody here gave a rat’s hind quarter about MeBron and “The Decision.” Did you notice that not one post, even in the “Off Topic Jibberish” section was made about this subject on UD Pride? Quite frankly, I didn’t care either -- I had an 8:35PM softball game Thursday night and didn’t exactly bust my butt to get home, since I already had a pretty good idea that he was headed to Miami.

Here are some opinions I found interesting:

Cleveland native Joe Posnanski:

Buzz Bissinger in Vanity Fair:

And the one guy who came out of this whole mess looking like a genius -- Tom Izzo:
