40 minutes to first serve...and another 50 minutes to finish this match off. Jump on them early and get in and out of the gym. I'm looking for our block to penetrate over the net better today -- although it might take some work at practice this week to seal it down.

Go Flyers!

It's half way through the first set and I have no audio. Anyone else having this problem?

25-18 UD wins first set. They didn't look as sharp as Friday night. The sets are just a little off and even the kill shots don't sound as solid. But they won.

We are up 2-0, but it took overtime in the 2nd before we won 28-26. Both teams have 15 hitting errors. You want to keep your hitting errors under 4 per set. At 7.5 we are way above that right now.

I have no audio and no video. (wasn't suppose to have video) So can't comment too much. But off of stats, I did notice we went to Hammer early and she got 4 kills with no errors. Then we didn't go back to her until the second to the last point of the match which she scored.

Gotta get her more swings. She is our only hitter with zero errors and she's hitting over .700.

Also, after 4 blocks in set 1 -- Campbell puts up our only block in set 2. Ohio has 8.5 blocks.

Update -- I have audio now.

I'm not sure what was going on with substitutions at the end of the 3rd set??? But they were questionable in my opinion. I understand the offense-defense possibilities, but bringing in freshman Loiars for a 1/2 rotation when she hasn't played all weekend and then replacing her immediately????

Anyway -- we were leading 22-19 when the sub stuff started and lost 26-24.

Going to a 4th.

Flyers win 3-1. Played better the 4th set winning 25-17. Finally hit well that set - over .300

Kray and Sam had Double-Double in this match. Z had 7 blocks.

All Tourney Team:

Kray
Alaina
Pepperdine Setter
Pepperdine Hitter
Illinois MB Dorn
Ohio Libero

MVP -- Janna Krafka -- UD Libero -- and she WAS outstanding.

Great choices on the all tourney team. I thought that Pepperdine's setter yesterday was really good. Sheff said at the chalk talk that she was one of very best in the country, had the entire package.

Wow, MVP of your first college tournament. Great for Kraftka. She wasn't as good early in this match as the other two but she made great play after great play for the entire weekend. It was pretty obvious against Pepperdine, they were serving away from a freshman playing her second collegiate match.

OU was very scrappy - they will be heard from.

After the first 3 games, here is how the all-time rankings have changed:

Samantha Selsky has moved up to 11th all-time in assists with 1,320 (12th vs Illinois, 11th vs Pepperdine)

I would expect Kray to move up pretty quickly in kills this year -- Figgie123 - can you post how many she needs to hit the next couple levels before next weekend?

Sam's placement on the all-time best list is pretty impressive -- considering this is only her 2nd year starting. She played a little two years ago when Jess was the starter. So in a little over a year of game experience -- she's in the top 20. It shows Sam is a very good setter, but this also shows how great the teams have been the last 2-3 years in comparison to past teams.

Might have had to do with the fact that Illinois had first serve in the first set and they went right after Krafka with it and she passed a perfect 3 to Sam on the first PLAY of her collegiate career -- against the #7 ranked team in the country -- in front of the biggest crowd she has ever played in front of.

Alas...Illinois decided pretty quickly to serve away from Janna too. LOL

If you had looked at the Statistical Guide I posted in my blog (http://www.udpride.com/forums/blog.php?b=112), you could see the Milestones for her, as well as the top 15 in kills all-time! :) (Thanks for the cheap plug attempt... :) )

But, to answer the question, she'll move up 2 spots easily, with the next 2 most likely happening the next weekend. (That is unless we have some massive 5-setters this weekend.)

So in a little over a year of game experience -- she's in the top 20. It shows Sam is a very good setter, but this also shows how great the teams have been the last 2-3 years in comparison to past teams.

As great as our teams have been the last 2-3 years, if you look back on our history, and volleyball as a sport, you usually have a single setter doing most of the assists. And, you also have someone doing it multiple years, therefore, you don't get alot of people on the list.

Our #1 setter all time has 5,531 assists. Those are off of years of 1203, 1581, 1333 and 1414. When a player dominates a stat for 4 years, a top 10 list spans 40 years. And with the earliest player listed in the All-Time Roster from 1970, and earliest single-season record listed is 1984 (media guide states move to Division I in 1984 for complete records), it isn't that hard to get up there in Career Assists.

Here is 10th thru 16th:

Most Assists, Career | 10 | Kacie Hausfeld | | 1742
Most Assists, Career | 11 | Samantha Selsky | | 1320
Most Assists, Career | 12 | Joelle Zajac | | 1236
Most Assists, Career | 13 | Jessica Yanz | | 1206
Most Assists, Career | 14 | Sue Fishburn | | 743
Most Assists, Career | 15 | Hannah Clancy | | 644
Most Assists, Career | 16 | Johanna Metzger | | 462

With approximately 40 assists per game (Samantha has 125 in 3 games here in 2012), next year's setter will make it to 16th place all-time by conference season.
