Team needs to bounce right back tonight. I think they will -- probably a little teed after this afternoon. As it should be.

Great first set. UD wins 25-17. Everyone is hitting lights out -- .593 as a team. 4 blocks. Not many digs (6) because we are terminating offensively and blocking well, meaning not a lot of balls to dig up.

UD drops the second set 21-25. Sounded like the Flyers shot themselves in the foot a bit, but hard to say with just audio. I'm curious see how the team would handle a loss. It was a long match against OSU, but they need to move on and keep playing.

If #9 on WKU doesn't have the nickname Paige "Nuclear" Wessel, I don't even know...

Flyers take a TO after giving up a service ace, WKU up 9-6 in the 3rd.

Wow. Flyers drop set 3 by a score of 15-25. Not pretty at all

Team has to re-group and fight back. Like Hans said, hard to say without video -- but it's do or die. I missed most of the 2nd and 3rd sets -- came back at around 23-13.

Seems like the team is getting outworked at the net. Hitting straight into single blocks and not getting the drop on the attack. WKU's serve might be causing some problems too. Hard to win when both those things are against you.

Shane might have a bit of a bias, but it doesn't sound like there's a lot of help from refs.

It did look like there was some "homer bias" with the officiating. But, I don't believe that the officiating had much to do with the outcome of the match.

The Flyers were discombobulated.

Agreed. They weren't gonna win playing like that, but those calls can kill any momentum. Seemed like when they got a break, ref overturned it.

Bummer. This is not what I expected to read when returning from work. We are better than this match but it isn't about how good you are, it is about how well you play.

With a side out percentage of .305 -- that says a lot. If I'm reading this correctly, WKY was scoring more than 2 out of every 3 times we put the ball in play. That would mean they passed very well off our serve.

Here is a compilation of the sideout percentage by games. (through Tennessee Tech)

team | pct | result
-----------------+------+--------
Illinois | .438 | W 3-0 (14, 17, 21)
Pepperdine | .454 | W 3-1 (19, -18, 24, 18)
Ohio | .484 | W 3-1 (18, 26, -24, 17)
Austin Peay | .567 | W 3-0 (14, 7, 21)
Missouri State | .534 | W 3-0 (21, 23, 10)
Oral Roberts | .474 | W 3-0 (28, 20, 11)
Ohio State | .404 | L 2-3 (-22, 21, -20, 21, -12)
Western Kentucky | .305 | L 1-3 (17, -21, -15, -20)
Tennessee Tech | .589 | W 3-0 (11, 12, 21)

So, the 2 lowest sideout percentages, Ohio State and Western Kentucky, .404 and .305, respectively, were our losses. Next worst sideout was .438 against Illinois, where we swept.

Regarding sideout, I went back and looked at the sideout percentages for 2011, and we only had one game worse than the Western Kentucky game of .305. That was Michigan where we went 19/64 for .297.

If I interpret the numbers correctly Western Kentucky sided out seven times out of ten. IF you let a team do that your offense had better be playing really well.

I agree with BECKYSTXA that WK had to pass the ball really well to accomplish this.
