Our Conference Home Opener against the Young and somewhat improved UMass Team... McCall's team and staff was gutted in the offseason... They have played hard despite the youth so far this season.

Game is at 12:30 on Saturday Afternoon and will be shown on NBC Sports Network.

Mitchell is one of the best Freshman in the conference, might be the frontrunner for A10 Freshman of the Year (14.7 PPG 6.2)... East is a really good freshman PG as well (12.0 PPG 5.1 APG)... As we have known, Pierre can stroke it from 3 (41.3%). Sadly likely their best freshman of the bunch TJ Weeks might be done for the year as has missed some games recently.

Keep it going as we get ready for the showdown at the Arena on Tuesday against VCU.

He was and is now showing that he can walk the talk. UMass will be a team to watch next year as it is young and the players will be back. Today’s game will be part of their education.

1). 3 point shooting % getting back to levels we had for the bulk of the season. Last three games have been subpar. Don’t want a mini slump to turn into a trend.

Everybody has different tolerances for pain. But I agree his reaction did not look good. Like he knew it was serious. Hopefully just a scare.

Obi will be fine.....and fine for Tuesday night. He turned his ankle on a back pedal (not jumping or running), so he wasn’t applying a significant amount of weight or power in the process. He walked off under his own power without much of a limp. Then he came back out in a protective boot and the staff (both medical and coaching) let him circle the crowd for high fives.

I’m sure udscott will find a way to pin this on Grant and call him a deceiving liar in the next 72 hours regardless.

Jordy has shown plenty of promise. I think we just expect some different things from a player of his build, so he looks a little awkward. Most of us probably expect a player like him to just go up strong and overpower the defender at the rim, but he seems more comfortable going up with the ball away from his body, so we see a lot of baby hooks. He moves his feet really well.

Yeah, and I'm glad that when he was just holding the ball, letting the clock run out, he got it stolen from him. That has to **** him off. And since he does have issues controlling the ball at times, it's extra motivation to be more aware.

In only 16 minutes. He is trying very hard out there. Good motor. Lots to learn--like in the last few seconds, give the rock to a guard.

Saw my son after the game. His wife sent him a screen shot video from their TV of
the "collision". #33 actually stepped on Obi's ankle and seemed to make him fall with a twist.
I'm sure the training staff is up on all the current procedures to help a sprain heal faster.
Hope he is good to go for VCU.
Can't wait to see the gnashing of teeth on UMassHoops.

A bit surprised there is not more praise for Mikesell's game - 15 points and 14 boards. His coast to coast defensive rebound and dunk on the other end was the best play of the day.

IMHOP - the two biggest deficiencies in this year's team to date has been rebounding and post defense. Landers and Mikesell grabbing boards is huge. Post defense is a work in progress.
There are many ways to defend the post. The one thing we did do well today was defend the post on the entry pass. Obi had several steals that way in the first half. However, when UMass got the ball down low we had problems.

Post defense is improved from the Kansas debacle with Azabuike. Today we made some good double teams on their center. Still a work in progress.

Today against Baylor Azabuike looked helpless, and scored only six points on six shots. The kid guarding him is only 6'9", but he shut him down. Of course it helped that Dotson had a bad hip, which limited his penetration.
