The osu

OSU Flyer 08-02-2017 11:02 AM

a yearly event on the model of the crossroads classic I think would be fantastic

UD62 08-02-2017 11:19 AM

There is one thing that the other three schools have in common, none of them want to play the Flyers. So there is a common ground of sorts.

The lure of playing OSU every couple of years could work out in our favor in regards to that

This is a great idea, but the flaw is that UC and XU are not going to agree to give up the Crosstown Shootout to do this. For everybody to play each other UC vs XU would have to occur every third year as part of the event. The only solution I have thought of is for every third year OSU vs UD to play at UD/VCA and basically not have the neutral site event. Sample schedule below. NA=Nationwide Arena

Year 1: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs UC XU vs OSU

Year 2: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs XU UC vs OSU

Year 3: UD at OSU (X at UC play the Crosstown shootout as normal)

Year 4: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs UC XU vs OSU

Year 5: Ohio Classic at NA UD vs XU UC vs OSU

Year 6: OSU at UD (X at UC play the Crosstown shootout as normal)

If this comes to fruition it would be at Nationwide Arena every year or a neutral court like the Q in Cleveland. 2 game double header

UC and Xavier wouldn't play each other as a part of this. I wouldn't be surprised if it was like the Crossroads Classic. Dayton rotates between UC and Xavier and never plays OSU.

Look, Ohio State was never a rival, but Cincinnati and Xavier were. Both of those teams should be on our schedule every year on an alternating home-and-home basis (at least until we hopefully join a conference with one of the two). Forget about mimicking what they do in Indiana.

It takes two to tango and if you haven't been paying attention X wants nothing to do with UD, period end of report.

If all that happens is that we play OSU once every 5 years or so that's still a big improvement over our current situation. I would gladly accept only playing at their place. Flyer Nation will turn it into a home game anyway.

Thanks for the condescending response, but please notice I used the word should, particularly based on the past history of the programs. However there were two posts made prior to mine that seemed to imply that Cincinnati and/or Xavier might play us in some sort of an annual showcase event.

I don't understand the obsession with playing Ohio State when we have two historical rivals who have no business blackballing us.

OSU is one of those three. In the article it states OSU is interested. Try covering one eye and read it again..

I guess that i am older than rest of you but i always considered Notre Dame, DePaul and Miami of Ohio as our rivals. We played Xavier every year and i wondered, why? They were terrible and i actually thought the games with division 2, Baldwin Walkace were more entertaining. We also played Detroit every year. But, i heard the older guys say stuff like back in the 60's Xavier was good. Actually, i believe that we played Michigan every year for something like seven years or some such.

But, of course, all this changed during the O'Brien years. That's when Xavier got good, at our expense and they haven't looked back. I think that we are still trying to recover.

I remember when Donoher was kicked out. Everyone said his teams played too slow and he recruited old style big slow players. All the new recruits want to play fast and up-tempo. We need a new coach. In came O'Brien and our fortunes sank.

They're not common rivals obviously. But they are territorial rivals. Plus it will boost our sos in the long run if a long-standing series comes to fruition..

slysyl 08-07-2017 03:47 PM

How did Xavier get good at our expense.

Slysyl: IMO and just my thoughts, i believe that while Dayton was bungling around with Head Coach Jim O'Brien, other schools in the area were getting stronger. It was a period of lost time and space. Recruits, fans and the news media forgot what we had been and only knew what O'Brien created. While O'Brien was chasing 4 and 5 star recruits that he never landed, the other schools were nailing down all the good landable 3 star recruits. So, when O'Brien finally gave up on his first choice, he could only recruit what was left. It was like a desert stripped of all the landable recruits. O'brien seemed like a decent x and o coach but recruitmg was not his forte. (Well, i am being too rosey in my memory. Maybe it was even worse than that!)

I would also rather play Cincy and Xavier than OSU. But this thread is about playing OSU so I posted my thoughts about playing OSU. :beermug:

It will boost THEIR SOS too. That's what trade is, something that benefits both parties.

The stands for a preseason tourney are typically either completely empty or the gym is so small that 1,500 fans make it look full. I think something like this at Nationwide would draw 8,000 per game. At least.

OSU Flyer 08-09-2017 12:45 PM

I could see this at the Q in Cleveland to build some exposure up there.
