Joey Gruden Staying One More Year
I saw this in a DDN article.
I wonder if Joey sees an opportunity to pick up some meaningful minutes next year with all the young-ins coming in?
Regardless, I think it is great for the program to have him as a mentor to the freshmen next year. Seems like a high-quality kid who's behind-the-scenes contribution to our success has probably been significant.

No, he won't.

Perhaps he wants to continue in the family profession of coaching and wants to spend another year observing Archie and staff.

Why not stay on for another year with this coaching staff, environment, fan base, school? Not to mention the fact that Archie probably wants another Senior to stick around to help Darrell show all the incoming Freshman solid leadership.
From YouTube videos I've seen and watching some interactions on the bench, it probably helps that he and Mikesell are good friends, too.

Do the same eligibility timelines apply to walk ons?

Wonder if McKinley Wright will now reopen his recruiting?
On a serious note, great for the kid and for our media coverage.

Yes. Joey wasn't on the team during his freshman year at UD so that was basically his redshirt year.

Great news, I doubt Archie even considers looking elsewhere.

Seems he wants to get into coaching, imo, and stick around AM and this entire staff as long as he can. Won't be about minutes as he'll get just as few next year..

Seems pretty certain that Archie confided in Joey as to his future plans, causing Joey to reenlist. Probably also discussed his financial profile and sex life with him too! Yeah, no way he's leaving with this level of communication with a guy who's been so close to making a field goal.

Exactly, at least someone is seeing the big picture.

Maddog bringing the brand of sarcasm he's known for in these parts. Usually the edge is enough to bring blood from a certain sect of sensitive priders. I agree with a lot of what he says, for it was probably his distant relative who called out the king for wearing no clothes. You go, maddog.

Joey is thinking next year the team could win 27 games - if they do - Him and DD will stand alone with the all time record for wins by a senior class.

Joey saw what happened to his uncle. Didn't get to play quarterback for the flyers and was told his future was in coaching. Same with Joey, does this mean that Joey could coach a NCAA champion team.
One thing is for certain, Joey knows something and its not good for NCst, Indiana etc.

If you guys seriously think Archie is making firm commitments to walk-ons with zero career field goals, I want some of what you're smoking.
I think he's staying, but I do not read it in the tea leaves of the Gruden announcement.

Entitled to your opinion but there has been more than just Joey returning to tip in the tea leaves favor. The media is also picking up on it. Don't discount the Gruden tree

When Dayton is up 20 with a minute to go, who does Archie turn to? Gruden... Plenty of other walk ins he could put in but there's clearly a deep commitment that stems far deeper than any of us will understand between those two. As long as Joey stays, Archie stays. Period.

I guess we know the real reason Joey stayed, and it's not because AM was coming back!

Well the real reason might be because he changed his major and isn't eligible to graduate.
