Director of Basketball Operations

This position still has to be filled?

NorthwestFlyer 05-02-2017 07:33 PM

This would have never happened if Ray Harper was on campus.

Chris R 05-02-2017 07:36 PM

Andy Farrell.

great news, even better if they're delaying announcing. That would alleviate many concerns about AG

Just out of curiosity, why would this be great news? I think it would be cool to bring in a guy with Dayton ties, and his brothers of course have done great things for the First Four/Big Hoopla. Sounds like this would be solid - just curious why you termed it "great."

He's not governed by NCAA rules at SW Mississippi CC. I'm not suggesting anything tawdry but he's got freer hand to do his job operating under NJCAA rules right now than being officially on staff at Dayton.

Delaying him coming aboard is a smart move and give me more faith that AG gets it

Nice! Didn't think of it that way... I think he will be a very good addition to the staff. I'd bet we will see an announcement any day now.

I called that one weeks ago. Look up Andy on twitter and check out who he follows... he seems to be keeping tabs on all the UD guys as well as potential transfers.

Sounds like a great hire, class guy. The delay really could be that he is finishing up his current job.

I started following him on twitter after you mentioned that & he seems like he's on top of things in the transfer department

That would be unfortunate if he's finishing up his current job. Right now he can actually go out recruit which he won't be able to do at Dayton & the NCAA rules governing contact don't apply to him

DoO cannot recruit if I recall correctly. Their job is to stay back and schedule, budgets, etc

I would be surprised if he actually made recruiting contacts on behalf of UD that the NCAA would share the view that because he wasn't named on staff his contacts were ok.

I can't believe we have a thread discussing the Director of Bball Ops. What's next? Director of Locker Room Custodial Services? After all, Athlete's Foot is a serious issue! ;)

Andy is a UD alum, contacting recruits for UD while not employed to do so would be a violation.

On behalf of UD but on behalf of himself is ok. This is actually a fairly common tactic. Huggins brought it into the mainstream

I would not want to walk that tightrope through compliance since he's been around campus, reportedly has agreed to a job as DoBO. To say, oh I'm just introducing myself and it has nothing to do with my soon to be employer......

Let's just say I'm skeptical and I doubt UD would permit it.

And it's much different when it's a head coach vs the DoBO. What kid signs a letter of intent because of the DoBO. And in this case, Huggins had no idea where he would end up. But Farrell does. He's already agreed to be the DoBO.
