Posted in the other thread where it was mentioned, but here is an article with more info on Hertz and his role at Illinois. Imagine it would essentially be the same at Dayton.

Seems like a nice hire as an auxiliary staff person to bring Grant up to speed on potential recruiting targets in the Midwest as one of Hertz's responsibilities at Illinois was:

"Coordinate and organize recruiting board including specific prospects, scheduling both off-site and on-campus recruiting visits by prospective student athletes."

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some news on Assistance's :)

Experience working with AG and AG's mentor (BD).

longtimefan 04-12-2017 11:06 AM

So it appears he won't be one of the three full-time assistants who can take recruiting trips, etc. Sounds more like a DoBO.

UD web site

If all Miller's UD assistants are leaving, why are they all still listed under AG's name on UD's web site. Staff changes usually are corrected very quickly...no doubt there is a person at UD who is singularly responsible for things like that.

Probably because the moves are not official.

Notice Allen Griffin's name isn't there. He may be the only one that has been officially announced.

Medford 04-12-2017 11:22 AM

But if you know they are no longer going to work at UD, why not take them off the site, and remove them from campus (assuming they are on campus at all, don't know)? They don't have to show up on IU's website to be taken off of UD's.

Maybe they are still officially under contract?

Medford 04-12-2017 11:29 AM

Perhaps, and I have no idea how an assistant's contract is written, but you'd think at this point, they know they are either going to work under CAG or they are not. If they are not, it seems like its best for all parties to just move along. Perhaps there is some goodwill gesture to allow them to keep their offices as a workplace for the time being (w/ a non compete phrase written in there), but I'm not sure why you wouldn't take them off the list of assistants.

Taking UD assistants and recruits to Indiana is one thing, but also taking the guy or gal responsible for making website updates is a bit much! Archie Miller has now officially crossed the line. He's dead to me.

If they are still under contract they still work for UD, unless you are saying UD should fire them.

shwag33 04-12-2017 11:42 AM

Updating the website is at the absolute bottom of the list on priorities. Updating a website is never going to be done before an official announcement.

The website really means nothing.

Medford 04-12-2017 11:44 AM

fire, release, whatever you want to call it, yes. If they know they are not going to be working under CAG, yes. If there is a buy out clause that you are looking to avoid, then by all means make it unofficially official until they take their next offer, but there is no need to keep them employed in the public domain if you know in reality they will be somewhere else.

Grant's probably still trying to figure out the website administrator password you guys.

priceg75 04-12-2017 12:59 PM

Try "admin".

this conversation should be the poster-child of '1st world problems'.

BeckysTXA 04-12-2017 04:40 PM

I've come up with two therories. First is they aren't staying, but their contracts are due to expire shortly and UD wants them to stay thru the end of their contracts. This might be the case if the assistants got raises/new contracts in the spring after say the Elite Eight run. That time frame would make sense. And if UD let's them go before that, there might be a penalty they have to pay, so they are waiting it out.

Second is they are either staying or haven't made a decision.

Both are total guesses, but it also might play into why AM said he planned to announce his staff all together and therefore there is nothing coming out of IU either.

Whatever is happening, it's not the norm, so we wait to hear something.

UACFlyer 04-12-2017 05:16 PM

More guessing....

Suppose one of the assistants really wants a HC job...but is not quite ready or doesn't yet have the exposure. And suppose that guy is one that AG really would love to keep...badly. Offer him the position of Assoc Head coach with an appropriate pay boost. Would such a happening better position a guy for a HC job if he stayed at UD rather that going to IU as an assistant? I don't know.

But I would love to see an element of continuity. This starting all over from scratch routine is not good for a program, in my opinion.

Well, given that there are no announcements from either University and this has
been going on for awhile now, maybe, just maybe, . . . . .
