Only if you let it. Look people are going to react to losing in different ways. Some rational, some irrational. Sometimes, people have irrational positive views too. It's an internet message board, not sure what you expect. You can always mute people you don't want to read.

Ready Action 02-06-2018 08:30 AM

This is not the Pit of Misery. I loooooove this forum as it provides comic relief in the big picture. As TX said I wouldn't take this or any other board too serious. I enjoy reading people's reactions good or bad and some of the back and forth. I often post silly stuff just because I can. To UDPRIDE...Dilly Dilly!

I understand there is a craft brewery in Dayton called Toxic Brew. I am pretty sure this thread is not an under the radar ad for such a business ...... or is it?

San Diego Flyer 02-06-2018 10:18 AM

Not the forum, just certain posters.

It's amazing how one basket, or one win, can change the mindset of so many on this MB.

What if Crutcher's last shot had gone in? A half dozen venomous posters would be hiding under some rock, coiled for the next loss.

AG should not be so harshly judged until he gets a nucleus of his guys. But I realize that it is too much to ask for some. They would rather throw up a hand grenade and run under it.

This

A Miami football forum was paying to have banners flown before games demanding their coach be fired

shocka43 02-06-2018 10:43 AM

The forums can police themselves as well. If posters are found to violate the rules of the MB, then fire off a red card or if not in violation. Hand out positive or negative reps as well with the scales if you aren't familiar with them.

Those banners were kind of funny though. https://twitter.com/RodGilmore/statu...735104/photo/1

I guess when you've got a fleet of yachts in your backyard, it's relatively easy to be good-natured. Even when you're losing at Miami.

In Dayton, ain't no one got a yacht. Now, maybe you've got a fleet of illegal lawn darts. Problem is you can't even use 'em till Springtime!

In Dayton, when we lose, we all just retreat to our basements, and hurl toxic comments around online.

It's what we do!

SeasonTicketFan 02-06-2018 11:51 AM

Losing does not bring happiness. Losing basketball teams should be angry and upset, because it means they don’t like to lose. It is to be expected.

UD fans expect championship basketball. When that does not happen, the blame games begin. If everyone was happy right now, I think there would be bigger problems. Most on this board are unhappy but also realistic.

There rational and irrational ways to fix losing. Going off the deep end or being content are not the ways to cure the ills.

NJFlyr71 02-06-2018 12:14 PM

Toxic ? Not like this though !

One problem I see around here is that too many minions can't differentiate between 'losing' and 'quitting'. One is frustrating, the other unacceptable.

Thru my royally rose colored glasses, I see a team of marginal talent busting their butts and coming up short. Never have I seen anyone quit...although I have seen a couple brain-farts (Kostas!) that were immediately dealt with.

If this team ever quits, I'll be the first (or 2nd as udscott may beat me to it at 2:15 am) to throw everyone under the bus. But as is, we're a young team hoping to win, playing to win, but unable to do it against teams with more experience winning.

Grant will right the royal yacht and - assuming Cunningham returns - we'll be a very hard team to beat next season.

Tag this post. In 365 days, you can quote me. The King, doubling as an amateur prophet, will not disappoint.

For the most part...I agree. I pay close attention to body language and non-verbals during games, especially from those on the bench. I won't call him out by name here, but a certain non-freshman will come out of the game, sit back in his chair, and throw his arms around the chairs on either side of him, sip some water, and give the impression he could care less. Unless, from AG's lips to my ears, I hear that he's hurt or otherwise battling injury (why would he be playing?)...I perceive this as quitting.

Watch (pick a game, pick a team) tonight on TV. Count how many teams fly off the court and into the locker room at halftime. The good ones do, regardless of the score. Archie's Flyers did it too. Then watch this year's Flyers. It's not the only indicator on the give-a-**** meter, but it's an indicator to me.

Quick 30 second count the "yes or no" thread was one of 8 separate threads he has started in the last month, most pointing out all the bad in Flyer land.

This is not a contest between you (donniex3r) and UDScott.

I, for one, do not think that udscott is toxic all the time. He might be a bit toxic at times.

He is just posting what many on here are already thinking, but are afraid to say/don't want to say out loud.

His threads always get a ton of replies.

Could udscott tone it down a bit? Yes. But I do NOT think that he should be banned.

I am no angel myself at times.

Toxic is not the word I would use. There are certainly posters who are not as friendly as they used to be. I understand how internet message boards work, but this isn't reddit or 4chan.

This is supposed to be a community of people with a shared love of UD basketball. It doesn't mean we have to agree on everything, but the personal attacks and being told what we can talk about (thread closing) make it a lot less fun around here.

I still read almost daily, but don't post as often. Don't really feel like getting yelled at because I think AG deserves a few years before being fired. I get sick of arguing with someone because they can't just avoid clicking a thread about a topic they don't like. They would rather tell me not to talk about it so they don't have to make the choice not to click.

Winning cures everything, in the meantime, let's try to be respectful of our fellow Flyer Faithful.

I've been visiting UDPride for years and can honestly say that udscott and Swampy were instrumental with my decision to start posting. Essentially, I couldn't stand reading their moronic/toxic posts any longer and needed to counter their consistently weak arguments. I couldn't take it anymore!

I thought the same thing. MG, He can't get along with anyone. Then I began to notice how often Swampy and UDScott posted and a picture began to form in my mind. Hey, I am beginning to like this Guy! A little different but he says it like he sees it.

Some others tell it like they were told to see it. You are right. This is entertainment! I guess it might not be for everybody but I still don't have anyone blocked. I don't know if they might have me blocked or not

I don't give a **** about other forums being MORE toxic. This forum was always about posting BASKETBALL analysis, BASKETBALL stategy, good or bad. Just objective viewpoints. There is still a lot of that, which I appreciate, but there is alot more of in the gutter negative posts by people who probably never played the game at all.. my apologies, I just feel WE are better than the other toxic boards. Remember, "it's always a great day to be a flyer" right?:titanic:

It's a discussion forum, where people post their thoughts and opinions. If you can't handle differing opinions, show yourself out.

And Donnie, you have been one of the worst offenders for "keyboard attacks" and other forms of "toxic" behavior lately. Practice what you preach, pal.

I haven't taken any time to figure out the green / red dot thing to boot.

I only care if I'm unblocked when it's time to go......

udscott 02-07-2018 03:42 PM

see if you say negative things about UD, then there are individuals on here who give you a red dot, there is a handful of individuals on here that think only positive things should be spoken, and when you have a negative opinion then "boom" red dot

UDGutter2 02-07-2018 04:11 PM

Before the season a co-worker asked me what the Flyers would be like. I told him they would have to score a bunch to win, because the defense would be awful. The season is exactly what I expected and would not have expected much better if Archie hadn't left.

It's not what is said, it's how it's said and how other posters are treated. I've been VERY critical of things over the years with few red pips..it's mostly in the delivery.

This forum has been around for a long time and is pretty respectful for the most part compared to other teams and organizations. Most would like to keep it that way.

You can say negative things about UD and not get red. Watch this:

I think our defense is atrocious and it makes it hard to watch games.

Wait for it....wait for it....still green.

You, on the other hand, have recently called people an "idiot", called AG "absolute garbage" and have been calling for him to be fired. You have also asked for UD to ignore their scholarship commitment to Crosby and X and let them go (I've heard recruits love to sign with programs that do that). You also asked to do the same with Svoboda.

That's not stating an opinion, that's just being unpleasant. Unpleasant gets red.

It is not just saying negative things. It is saying the same negative things over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

There are clearly some posters who tend to be negative and some that have rose colored glasses. Most are tolerable and tolerant. There is a huge benefit to multiple points of view. There should be criticism but it works better when it is reasoned. Periodic frustration is fine; incessant tormenting is numbing.

I've never given anyone a red dot... I never even checked to see how it's done. The issue with udscott is that he is relentlessly negative in a completely petulant way. Most of the posts come across like a child throwing an attention seeking tantrum in public. There is no value to what he's doing. You know you should just ignore him but you end up hoping he gets hit by a meteor. It may be more accurate to say his posts are relentlessly immature.

It's hard to tolerate posts that are so self-hating of the team. The rose colored glass crowd goes overboard as well. Seriously, who in their right mind seriously believes that even benign criticism is going dissuade a recruit from choosing UD? At least it is well intended.

It seems like some want him banned. I don't want that. I just wish he would grow up a little.

I am not the biggest Trey fan, but OMG what an effort last night, he was on a 1 man mission, great job last night Trey

UDScott...some people are glass half full, some are glass half empty, you just happen to be OMG THE GLASS IS BROKEN!

I meant to post this awhile ago, but the post above is the most positive post you have ever had (which got a bunch of "thanks") makes me laugh because if you look at it closer it isn't actually positive.

The only things you are happy about are certain players being benched. Plus while complimenting Trey you throw in "I am not the biggest Trey fan".

Who do you actually root for on the team?

Now you post just to say that you have nothing negative to report.

I really don't have a point. I actually like your posts, but I get why so many people can't handle the negative comments on a site dedicated to being a fan of the team.

Die Hard wouldn't have been as good of a movie without Hans Gruber and this forum wouldn't be as entertaining without you.
