St. Bonaventure Game Thread
 

Solid stretch for the guys, now we start a 2 game homestand against two teams playing some good ball, starting with the Bonnies.

Game is at 2 PM on Saturday Afternoon and will be shown on the NBC Sports Network.

Starting Lineup:

F 33 Josh Ayeni 6’8” 220 FR Zaria, Nigeria

Their All-Conference Backcourt of Adams and Mobley leads the way... Mobley averaging over 19 PPG and Adams over 21 Points 3 rebounds and 6 assists a night.

I heard on the radio that prior to the game at the Cassano's on Brown St. an appearance will be made by Ryan Perryman during the pregame show.

It's virtually impossible to find attractive St. Bonnie cheerleading pictures. Here's the best I could do...

If I learned anything from the last thread, its that if you add "technology" behind the school's name, then add the initial "t" to the cheerleader's outfits it becomes much funnier; hope we get to play Southern Methodist or St Mary's again in the tournament.

I swear the cheerleader in the lower left has an Adam's apple. Just sayin' . . .

So what time does the tailgating start Saturday in the parking lot since it's going to be 55-60 degrees and nice out?

They have been playing a lot of zone of late. will be interesting to see how Archie prepares for that.

Too many negative thoughts around these parts. We should be psyched.

I felt a year ago we were limping into the end of the season. Kendall was hurting and that definitely put a damper on things. He has been playing his best ball ever over these last couple of games. DD playing better. Charles balancing team ball with his own one v one skills. XW is a major contributor and Kyle and Scooch are their usual reliable selves. Josh coming back gives us some height and beef down low that we have been lacking.

We control our own destiny.

A win today all but guarantees a top 4 seed and a bye until Friday quarterfinals for the Flyers. The one chance I can see us getting a 5 seed would be GM winning out and Flyers losing out. We have beat Richmond, URI (twice), STB (twice after today), and La Salle, and those are the teams with 6 losses that we would have to tie with in the 4-7 seed range.

(If UD loses out and GM wins out, of the remaining possible outcomes of all other games (outside of Stj losing to STL/DUQ), there are .10% chances of UD finishing in 5th.)

Bite your tongue! If UD loses out, we'd be lucky to make the NIT.

I hope they never fire Kellogg because as long as he's there that's one team we won't have to worry about challenging for the A10. Of course we'll have to worry about when we play them there, especially since I will probably be in attendance. :)

It's all perimeter passing on offense; no dribble penetration; no inside-out. I am actually glad to see John in the game. Scoochie is not running the offense.

Why don't we have X or JC catching and distributing in the middle of the zone? Passing the ball around the perimeter is just not going to do it.

It appears the Flyers have never seen a 2-3 zone before and the zone buster Darrell Davis is on the bench for the rest of the half with 2 fouls.

And our guards might consider trying to stay in front of theirs while playing D.

If we hit the two wide open threes, we are playing good. But we did not and confusion ensues on offense.

This is an excellent question. Nobody has set foot there.

Both sides of the ball are horrible.

They are making some circus shots. Hopefully these will stop falling.

Bonnies 9-15 and 3-6 on threes. Meanwhile we are 1-5 on threes and 6 turnovers.

Scoochie left his game in his room. He is way out of sync.

UD has let Adams and Mobley get their rhythm. That is not good.

In some cases I would say press and try to make this game ugly and try to get some steals, but I'm pretty sure their guards would absolutely destroy a press.

This is all about guard play, and at this point, their guards are killing us.

This is not the team to press. St. Mary's and VCU are the teams to press.

Circus Shots? They're hitting squared up 3 pointers. Just because that last one by Adams was beyond NBA range doesn't make it a circus shot. That is right in Adams range.

I like Archie putting Darrell back in even though he has two fouls. Need height on Mobley and Adams. Cooke now on Adams and Darrell on Mobley. Excellent move IMHO

We scored 9 unanswered when we didn't let the zone set up.

How do you miss that basket interference call? I swear it looks like Pollard is back to twisting his wrists again on free throws.

Darrell still can't finish on the break. SMH. Slow down and draw a foul or anything but a soft layup

And Scoochie has finally decided he needed to assert himself.

That baseline foul was a bit cheap.

He never stopped the odd release, he just learned to put it up there soft and co sistent.

Darrell has struggled with finishing since day one. He is moving too quickly and doesn't gather himself for the soft layup.

All stats even now, except shooting, where they have 3 more baskets made.

Somebody move to the ball on rebounds! That's twice we have had two players watching the ball go back over to the Bonnies!!!

Down 6 at the half. Came back but not all the way.

Very poor first half on both sides of the ball. These Bonnies have some really good players. Our lack of bigs continues to be our Achille's heel.

It was 26-11 so I guess being down 6 isn't too bad all considering.

Game changed after that when Archie put Cooke on Adams. Only 2 points Adams had after that was a loose ball driving layup.

Also Scoochie decided he needed to be aggressive and try to score until he got his 2nd foul.

Rebounds, turnovers and three point shooting dead even. They are 9-18 on two's and we are 4-16. Pollard, Williams, Cunningham and Mikesell with one two pointer among them.

We have got to get some inside scoring this half.

We didn't score in the last 2:26 except free throws. Gotta find consistant offense. Getting hurt inside. Bonnie's have 4 blocks. Ouch.

We need to get in the middle of that zone. We really didn't do that in the first half. The Flyers did precisely what the Bonnies wanted them to do - perimeter passing and taking some kind of flailing shot at the end of time.

We'll be OK.

They haven't been taking it strong to the rim when they have gotten it inside. Had they, they would've at least drawn more fouls and backed off SB's defense.

Announcers never mentioned the possibility that the ref was telling them to let go and Ayeni wouldn't. They were trying to give a T to Pollard.

Need to maintain the defensive focus, it's driven the comeback

Cooke is going to be really gassed by the end of this. He is working his ass off guarding Adams.

Darrell knocks down a big 3...coaching move of the game - putting Cook on Adams. This is not the same team without his dribble penetration and shooting off the dribble.

42-38 UD with 15:30 left... 2 SBU FTs after the TO

Darrell helps too much off Mobley and he nails a 3. Cooke didn't even really need the help anyway.

Big 3 by Cooke when he was open and squared up from the corner. He hasn't forced offense but 1 or 2 times today. Already has 3 assists.

And Jeff Neubauer is down to 1 timeout with 14 minutes to play. ;)

Move to the ball on rebounds, guys! That's three times the Flyers have watched the Bonnies beat them on offensive rebounds.

I think the student section almost confused our own players with the early shot clock countdown.

Jalen Adams is one heck of a guard. I watch a lot of basketball and I must say the A-10 has the best point guards I have seen.

Jaylen Adams finally scores again. It is not a coincidence Cooke was not on the floor.

We are getting stagnant again on offense and lethargic on defense. We need to get motivated.
