First 12 minutes was a dumpster fire. Our back line was not even ornamental -- that would be a term of endearment compared to how they looked.
Second half we competed much better and hustled a lot more. Granted the game was over and UL called off the dogs, but we did play them to a 2-2 game in the final 45 minutes. Huber created both goals, got one and assisted the other.
The Fab Five frosh -- Huber, Goins, Mertz, Leon, and Sheldon -- were probably five best players on the field for us. Once UD got into the offensive half, we actually did some good things in 2nd half. Got ball wide, into space, made UL defenders chase. Our dribble-drive from Sheldon was good -- she was putting distance on her defender even when dribbling w/the ball. Could have even had a third goal late.
So defensively we were about an F+ and offensively about a B-. Against Louisville who has 20 upperclassmen and we have 17 underclassmen I will take the B- against them on offense. The frosh had equal or better speed. What they lack is beef, physicality and experience. They often got pushed off the ball rather easily which isnt unexpected against players 3-4 years older.
Just keep getting the frosh touches. In the meantime, our back line cannot give away 3-4 Santa Claus balls a game in pickoffs outside our own goal box, and the few upperclassmen we do have must do better. They must serve better free kicks, provide the muscle, and lead by example.
