Coppin State Game Thread

Solid start vs. North Florida without Josh, let's keep it going this weekend versus the Eagles. I would be surprised if #0 plays, don't force it. Coppin lost 85-63 at Wisconsin in their first game.

Game is at 7 PM on Saturday Night and will be shown on Spectrum and ESPN+.

Starting Lineup:
G 13 DeJuan Clayton 6’2” 185 RS SO Bowie, MD
G 2 Taqwain Drummond 6’4” 185 SO Newport News, VA
G 22 Lamar Morgan 6’6” 200 SR Willingboro, NJ
F 1 Chad Andrews-Fulton 6’7” 215 SR Philadelphia, PA
F 5 Cedric Council 6’8” 220 SR Kennesaw, GA

Morgan is their best player (scored 15 against WIS and averaged a team leading 12.3 PPG last year)

They are not good lol

Go UD!

Yes, very close...-21.5, 138 o/u...probably the biggest spread of the year.

Just signed up for the free trial to espn+. Seems a decent monthly fee for all the live sports offerings. ****, I’m being dragged into my kid’s web media world!

Someone said they would believe Obi can shoot from the outside when they see it. They just saw it!

How about the press?

Jeff 11-10-2018 07:22 PM

Jordan Davis in attack mode

jack72 11-10-2018 07:26 PM

Jordan is a man!

That stat on Davis is unbelievable. Last year 23 free throws attempted, this year in 1+ game, 9.

lhsgolf19 11-10-2018 07:26 PM

24-8 with 11:40 left

jack72 11-10-2018 07:27 PM

Crutcher with 5 assists in 8 minutes.

We already have 3/4 of the spread covered (16/21.5).

Toppin sees the floor so well and can pass it. He has a very complete game.

lhsgolf19 11-10-2018 07:47 PM

35-12 with 3:45 left... Defense has been really good

tirebiter 11-10-2018 07:49 PM

Will we see Frankie tonight?

This is the worst team I’ve see at My Arena since the O’Brien days

Nice cherry on the top of a good first half.

lhsgolf19 11-10-2018 07:57 PM

UD leads 41-18 at the break

Mikesell 11 pts 7 reb
Crutcher 7 pts 6 ast

jack72 11-10-2018 07:58 PM

Coppin has not seen a turnover they don't like. 14 in the first half.

Swampy Meadows 11-10-2018 07:58 PM

Obi has 0 boards? How is that possible?

I understand what you are saying -- but 4 turnovers (typical of 1st year players) and zero rebounds (not what we need to see) tells me there is work to be done especially on the boards. He will get there.

Largely because all our shots went in and all their possessions were turnovers!!

Maybe these flyers are better than most thought?

maddog07 11-10-2018 08:05 PM

My only criticism is that at times we seemed to over pass.

BeckysTXA 11-10-2018 08:06 PM

How bad is Wisconsin? Coppin St played pretty well against them. Only 8 fans predicted Coppin would score in the 50's. Everyone else in the 60-70s. They will be lucky to get out of the 40s -- AG going to the walk-ons should help.

Grant has him playing outside, so when a shot goes up, he is retreating. On the Coppin end, they throw up so many bricks that there are no rebounds underneath. Last game someone criticized Obi's rebounding in the first half, and he ended with 10.

Obi was given 4 turnovers, but two should have gone to others for not catching a catchable pass.

CE80 11-10-2018 08:08 PM

This will be a nice win to chalk up but not sure how much you can take away from it. Will Frankie play?

Half time ctitique on the sreaming. Someone needs to monitor the sound broadcast. I've had to go from +18 to +92 on the sound every few minutes or mute entirely to avoid hearing problems when commercials come on.

The last game was the same way, as was the Men's soccer and Women's BB.

Gotta like their intensitiy. I noticed CAG getting in their grill on an early timeout in first half when they already opened a lead. Setting expectations!

Swampy Meadows 11-10-2018 08:57 PM

jack72 11-10-2018 09:01 PM

I am very impressed with Cohill for a freshman. To show you where this program is going recruiting wise, unless there are injuries, he may not start till his senior year, if then.

jack72 11-10-2018 09:04 PM

Mikesell will be driving the bus back to campus. 18 and 10, but no assists... slacker.

tirebiter 11-10-2018 09:11 PM

So now I'm really curious about Policelli. Is he hurt? Is he in the dog house? Is he just not any good? I hope someone asks AG directly.

I think the answer is none of the above... this was a game he should of played, so I am guessing 99% chance he will be red shirted, like Obi... Frankie is only 18 years old... I'm guessing red shirt

TommyGola 11-10-2018 09:28 PM

I concur with others that he will be red-shirted. He is big guy who just needs to work on his strength and ball-handling.

moville 11-10-2018 09:28 PM

What's the story with Frankie Policelli? Hurt, dog house? Redshirt?

CE80 11-10-2018 09:33 PM

I don’t know. In today’s world with all the transferring, I say let him play and see what he can do. Can’t see a kid sticking around for 5 years.

Needs a year to beef up..see Obi. Let him redshirt.

Dunno. See “Mikesell, Ryan” or “Cunningham, Josh”. Also, he has a great example to follow in Toppin. Obi sat a year (albeit for a different reason), and look at him now. Plus, if you look at the 3-5 slots, we have 1 Senior and 3 Juniors among the 6 who could play those roles without having Crutcher, Davis, and Cohill on the court at the same time. I think Frankie is still pretty slender for a 6’7” guy. If he redshirts, gains some muscle, and works on ball handling and shooting/moves, he could be seeing 15 or more minutes a game next year, and 25+ as a Sophomore. Not a bad trade off.

Mikesell sat out for medical reasons. I would rather have seen him playing last season than next season. Cunningham sat out as a transfer. Can't imagine last season without him but we probably would have been better off with him playing his transfer year than this year. Toppin sat out for academic reasons. He could have contributed last year. It is not going to get easier for Policelli going forward. I'd rather see what he can contribute this year when we are thin than wait another year.

All that said, I trust the coaching staff to be doing the right thing for the kid and the team.

Coppin was 4 of 22 for 18.2% against us, 11 of 29 for 37.9% against Wisc.
