VCU (A10 2nd Round) Game Thread
 

Really solid game by the guys on Saturday Afternoon, but which UD team will we get in DC? Round 3 vs. Rhoades' guys... Let's Get it!

Game is a 12 PM on Thursday and will be shown on NBC Sports Network.

Starting Lineup:

F 11 Issac Vann 6’6” 210 RS SO Bridgeport, CT
F 4 Justin Tillman 6’8” 220 SR Detroit, MI
F 5 Sean Mobley 6’8” 240 FR Cocoa Beach, FL

Tillman, Nuff Said (18.9 PPG 9.7 RPG) likely 1st Team All-A10... Jenkins has had a good year too at 12.8 PPG... Williams is up there in assists per game at 5.7 a night.

Let's see if the boys can keep the season going or do we get this unreal off-season started.

I also believe. Hopefully Kostas carries his momentum on the road, we need to play some decent defense and get Josh and Jalen 7-8 minutes of pine time. 4 games in 4 days is bad, it's worse when you are playing 35+ minutes a game.

Wow. I just went back an looked at box scores. Kostas didn’t play in either VCU game. Hopefully he adds a different element that VCU is not prepared to handle.

VCU shot up must get a body on Tillman. Must find him if we are in zone. Limit his touches which begins with ball pressure. Maybe front him and coach backside help. If he gets position with the ball maybe an aggressive double will negate his power moves.

I was hoping for that when we played in Virginia. It makes no sense to me to this day why Kostas didn't get one second of opportunity to see what he could do defensively against Tillman. Tillman is almost unstoppable and just makes sense that you at least try and put a guy with the length(both height and arms) against him and see if you can cause him to redirect his shots. Hopefully I finally get the chance to see if I was right or wrong.

Kostas will almost certainly foul out, but if he blocks a couple and misdirects a little bit and draws a foul or two on Tillman it's worth it. Cunningham playing 30 minutes or less and a win is a perfect scenario. Nobody is stopping Tillman. Nobody. If we hold him to 19 and 10(his averages) it's a win. Just don't let him go nuts on the offensive glass. Thats very deflating.

He's a pretty lousy FT shooter also. That's why it's worth it to have Kostas foul out and preventing him from getting a few FGs in favor of the FT line. If he'd have done that a couple times in the last game, we win in regulation.

He couldn't have done any worse than the other guys guarding Tillman

Most of us expected the Flyers to be where we are, and facing our last game today, but it does not make it any easier. Excited and hopeful for us to get a win today.

Should've beaten VCU twice. Now's our chance.

Which Flyers show up? The ones that shoot 70% and lay waste to everyone? Or the ones who barely seem to care?

Attack Tillman on the dribble. Isn’t there a notion that some success can be achieved by going right at a sho blocker?

Well a typical start, a missed layup and give up two easy threes.

Our defense is terrible so far. Too many easy shots.

It doesn't look to good at this point. And, yes king, she is a drag.

The offense is not clicking either. Other than getting the ball into the post, there seems to be no method to the madness.

12-8 VCU at the first media TO. We look sluggish and tentative. Need to ramp-up the defensive intensity, and hope that carries over to the offense.

Kostas is such another dimension that a team has to worry about. Why he never got in the game at VCU still boggles my mind.

I actually think our energy level seems fine. VCU shooting well early against some mediocre defense.

I'll take down 3 with those stats. Down 1

We only have 4 three attempts out of 18 FGA.

VCU with 8 three attempts out of 15 FGA. I like it.

Crutcher already with 4 boards, rebounding needs to be a team effort with our lack of height.

Solid game so far... 26-21 VCU with 7 to go

The problem is that UD is constantly at risk of losing contact, but VCU is never at risk of losing contact.

If neither of the Davises nor Crutcher are going to score, it's going to be a long day.

We need to hit some of these wide open threes

Crutcher needs to stop shooting for awhile and run the offense. 0-7 and 0-3.

We have to get DD some threes. That VCU defender is wearing him like a blanket.

The officials will not get control of the game. Flyers may not be able to overcome theHOMETOWN VCU feel to the game.

Need to get it to 4-5 by half

They have 16 bench points we have, gulp, 2

Considering we only play 7 people and one of them literally would die of a surprise heart attack if he scored, this shouldn't be a surprise.

Crutcher 6 assists, 6 rebounds. If he was shooting well, we would be in this.

This team is so much better with both Josh and Kostas in game at same time.

Down 5 at the half, ad I am still smiling.

Many ups and downs in the first half. I doubt we will pull this out today.

Why am I smiling? The future is bright. Add some depth next year, bit of maturity from our two guards, and quite optimistic for what lies ahead as we dance next season! I see a lot of good to build upon, and a few bad things that AG will get fixed.

Down five at the half. I will take it. Hopefully some of these easy shots start falling in the second half.

Yes, and I found it interesting that AG took out DD when Kostas came in.

Didn’t see the original play, but I think that’s the one they showed in-studio at halftime. Plowed-over Crutch on the baseline, right?

Desperately need some scoring out of Crutcher. Kostas has definitely made some strides in the last 6 weeks.

That would be the one. I found it interesting that they chose to include that in Tillman's halftime highlight package.

And Tillman has been getting away with murder.

He needed 6 coming in, and I think he has 5?

Kostas is learning. 4 pts and 2 rebounds in 11 minutes. Two great moves to the basket and one terrible one.

Our 2-11 on threes is killing us, or Jordan and Crutcher at 1-8 is killing us.

Both teams with only 3 turnovers and 19 rebounds. They have made three more three pointers and that is the difference.

Tillman played 18 minutes and has one foul called. Could have been four.

Tillman is physical establishing position. Hopefully they’ll call it early.

Sorry if already asked, is Pierce on the bench?

Key is Cunningham has to stay out of foul in order for the Kostas/Cunningham dou to be available. On the flip side,don't have to worry as much about Kostas fouls as he isn't going to log the same amount of minutes anyway.

They had nine guys score, and we had five. We have to get some players.
