Charles Cooke NBA season 2017-2018

CC had 6 minutes of playing time. 1-4 from the floor. 3 points.

http://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400978771

Smitty10 10-04-2017 12:36 PM

lol, one of only two players out of twelve for the Pelicans to average over 1 shot or more per two minutes played. He failed 3 out of 4 times. He added FT and a personal foul. The other player made 2-5 from the field, also a shooting guard played 7 minutes and added a rebound with zero fouls. His MO doesn't change. I'll be shocked if he ever makes it on the floor of a regular season NBA game.

You can't score if you don't shoot. And you probably can't get noticed if you don't score, unless you are a defensive or rebounding or passing specialist.

Cooke should fire away! Lol.

Let him fire away. It apparently makes him feel good to trash Cooke every chance he gets.

Oh my gawd what a joke.

He played 6 minutes and took 4 shots.

One appears to have been a fast break layup. I suppose he should have not taken that shot because it was unfair to the other players.

He took a couple 3's which were most likely wide open. Again, should have passed on those. Unfair.

Cooke should keep track of his shots per minute and -- rather than take the right shots in the flow of the game -- target the proper number of shots. That's how you are measured in the NBA.

I think Cooke's chances are low but this kind of "analysis" is moronic.

This may be a bit hard to grasp.

Flyers doing well in the NBA... good.
Wishing poorly on former Flyers... bad.

Buckleyma 10-06-2017 02:09 PM

Everyone, we should be celebrating. We've got two (2) former Dayton players who are on NBA rosters. Their pictures and biographical information is on the NBA rosters. Both Charles Cooke and Chris Johnson are on NBA rosters. CELEBRATE, CELEBRATE, another day of living! CELEBRATE! CELEBRATE! For years, we have sent players to Europe and always said that if we had players in the NBA that this would help our recruiting. Well, here it is. See links below.

Gooooooo Flyers! My wife taught CJ when he was at UD, said he was a class act!

Opening day roster for the Pelicans.

Good Luck, Charles!!

Buckleyma 10-17-2017 09:20 AM

Lifelolng flyer fan: thank you for sharing the roster lists. I see that Rajon Rondo is on the New Orlean Pelican inactive list. I hope that this is not the reason why Charles Cooke is still on the active list.

Medford 10-17-2017 09:23 AM

they only have 12 on their active roster, so they could activate Rajon and not drop anyone from that as you are allowed 13 (or perhaps even more). Anyhoo, good luck chuck, hope you get some burn.

DallasFlyer 10-17-2017 09:35 AM

Fantastic news. Cooke could get some minutes on what should be a truly awful team. Tremendous opportunity. Here's hoping Charles can make a name for himself at the highest level.

Buckleyma 10-17-2017 09:44 AM

Charles Cooke is listed as a two-way player along with Jalen Jones on the Pelican roster. The New Orleans Pelicans are one of four teams in the NBA without a G league affiliate. So, if Charles Cooke is not on the MBA roster then he could be moved around to several other team's affiliates to get playing time. But, for now, Rajon Rondo's sports hernia will keep him on the inactive list for approximately one month. Charles may have a month to impress pepple.

It looks like each team can have 15 players on the roster, plus 2 players that are under a 2-way contract, for a total of 17 players.

http://gleague.nba.com/players-two-w...017-18-season/:

Beginning in the 2017 offseason, NBA rosters expanded from 15 to 17 players with the addition of two spots for players under “Two-Way Contracts.”

NBA teams may have up to two players under NBA Two-Way Contracts who will spend the bulk of the season in the NBA G League and not more than 45 days with their NBA team. Two-Way players are paid a corresponding daily amount based on the number of days they play in each league. Only players with four or fewer years of NBA service are able to sign Two-Way Contracts, which can be for either one or two seasons.

Of local Dayton interest, Adreian Payne of Dayton Jefferson is listed as a two-way player on the list URL shown above. He is related to Chris Wright. I remember when Dayton was recruiting him. He was seen with his long arms sprawled out when he was sitting on a sofa at UD arena. I believe in a lounge area. Alas, we missed on him and the promises that because we landed Chris Wright that other players would want to come to Dayton to play, never really materialized.

Payne has been a bust. He at times looked all-world his college years, but he has the same handicap as Chris, not much of an outside shot.

Gazoo 10-17-2017 02:15 PM

Does this mean CC is on the actual roster, and can be reasonably expected to play 1 minute of NBA game time in a mop up role (at a minimum)?

If that's the case, will someone on here owe someone else a beer? Or is this just D-league rosters?

Correct, he is on the actual opening day roster and can play.

Smitty10 is going to be extremely disappointed by this development even though I'm sure he will still post about every turnover and missed shot by CC as soon as it happens anyway.

Payne is a great example of how insanely talented you have to be to make it in the NBA. He was nothing short of a stud at Michigan State, scoring >1200 pts and shooting 43% from 3-point land as a senior. Then he gets drafted #15 by Atlanta and the struggles begin.

Whenever someone here wants to say that XXX or YYY has an NBA body and all that other royal cr*p, I laugh because as Payne and Tyler Hansbrough NBA careers have shown, you have to be an athletic freea x 10 to make it in the NBA.

I do know that Payne has dealt with some injuries as well. I always followed him because of UD recruiting him while BG was still here. But you are definitely right, I do not think people realize how tough it is to break into the NBA. That is why for a couple of years, I thought Cooke was our only legitimate shot of having a player reach the NBA from our last class.

THirt 10-28-2017 09:54 PM

Cooke got a bucket in garbage time tonight against the Cavs. Good for him - in the NBA scorebook.

I'm shocked. I thought Cooke was too selfish to ever make it on the floor of a regular season NBA game.

4 shots in under 3 minutes. Looks like maybe they were trying to get him his first NBA points. A worthy goal.

4, 4 and 4...

As UD's only currently active NBA player, I'm shocked nobody posted that he scored 4 pts in 4 min last night as New Orleans lost at Washington...FWIW, it was his 4th game played, too...

That's awesome, thanks for the update. Didn't even realize that he was in the NBA yet, don't follow it at all. I'll be looking for him now.

Charles no doubt has the talent and size. He is also a very good on-ball defender.

Swampy Meadows 12-20-2017 03:01 PM

Charles is on the Greensboro Swarm-to-NOLA shuttle as a two-way player. He can spend up to 45 days on the NBA roster. Let's hope he makes the most of it!

MrFlyerFanatic 12-21-2017 08:56 AM

So how does this 2-way player thing work?
Can the big club call him up for 1 game and send him back the next or is there some common timing like there was with 10 day contracts?
Hard to keep track if Charles is literally shuttling back and forth for a couple days here and there.

That is exactly what they do with him. To date he has played 12 G-League (18 ppg, 5 rpg) games and 4 NBA games.

CE80 12-21-2017 09:34 AM

Until someone recently explained it to me, I didn't understand why the NBA D (development) league name was changed to the G League. G - Gatoraide sponsorship.
