Samari Curtis - Xenia High School

Folks: I always watch for players out of this area that I think are solid D-I prospects. The one player who has caught my eye is a 6'4" shooting guard, junior Samari Curtis, out of Xenia High School. He is a 3-star, for whatever that is worth. More interesting, Xavier just offered him along with Akron and a few other Ohio schools. I always find it difficult to predict how good a player will be at the next level, but today he is a man among boys in his league. In the last two games he has scored 86 points. He handles the ball well; shoots well off the dribble; and appears to be very athletic. Has anyone else seen this young man play? I have not seen anyone in the Dayton area with more talent than this young man.

And when he watches a Dayton game with Anthony Grant coaching why would he want to play for UD?

The dismal performances and lack of offensive plan have to turn off a lot of recruits.

It's a good thing Cohill actually signed a letter of intent

Dude, you’re turning every thread into an “Anthony Grant Sucks” thread. Step away from the computer for a little while. You’ll feel much better. Believe it or not, the sun will come out tomorrow...

He is correct, every fan hates our offense, what makes u think a recruit would like it ? Hell even an ex player hates it

Samari? Sign him up NOW!

I know this kid personally...my son played on his AAU team for 3 years. He was typically the most athletic kid on the court at every tournament we played although his stats didn't always show it. But each year he became more and more of a team player and this trend continued in HS.

His 2 older brothers always brought him to practice and the 3 of them were nothing short of awesome. From all appearances they are a tight and responsible family...my only fear is his education at Xenia HS.

I love this kid. His athleticism is off the charts and with some more guidance and growth, I don't see how he couldn't get the attention of every coach in the country, not just the region.

3-Stars? I'd take him over L'Christian Smith (Wayne, going to OSU for football) and put him up there with the Trotwood studs in terms of awesomeness.

He gets a Golden vote from me.

I suspect some recruits, especially local ones, will read a thread about themselves. So it does not help our recruiting to have a few slam our coach or program. Please try and keep that discussion to the appropriate threads.

Samari, if you read this thread. believe as is shown by attendance at our games and most comments on this site, that the program is supported like no other. We have a very young team with a first year coach, but we will be back in a big way very soon.

Gezzz ..... Slam? No! But to not speak badly or offer any criticism at all? Let's all close our eyes, our mouths and pretend we are sitting pretty dang good here in UD La La Land .... :singer:

NOT! :(

How about a recruit thinking just maybe he can pull, lift, drag the program to a better place than what it is right now? That could be a consideration.

Or maybe not!

There are lots of players to watch this weekend at Flyin to the Hoop. I saw Anthony and Anthony there yesterday and today. They watched a number of games.

why do you post comments like this, when more times than not our beloved flyers very next performance makes you look bad.... really bad

udscott 01-15-2018 08:55 AM

don't talk crap after one great game, overall our offense has been below average for the year, that cannot be disputed

Bummer, that would have been an unbelievable atmosphere to be part of!

Wrong... Lead the A10 in FG%, 2nd in Assists per game... Top Half in PPG and 3PT%

We are actually averaging more assists and have a higher FG% this year than last year and are a couple points behind what our team was averaging per game last year.

So try again

Medford 01-15-2018 09:40 AM

What is average? Kenpom may dispute that, as he has UD's adjusted offense ranked 88th in the country, far out pacing UD's adjusted defensive rating (174). There are 351 teams, though perhaps you only want to focus on the P5 conference, Big East, AAC, A10, Valley, MWC, etc... and leave out teams in the bot tier of conferences.

Bottom line, this offense, this defense, this team has been wildly inconsistent. Some of that is on the Coaching staff, some of that is on the players, some of that is to be expected due to the coaching change and lack of returning experience. The biggest thing for me, is to see improvement; which it feels like I'm seeing. I don't care how bad VCU's defense was (perhaps is), the ball movement I saw was outstanding on Friday night. This team gets into trouble when it gets stagnant, much in the same way that Archie's teams would almost always have a 5 min lule where things would get stagnant.

anyhoo, we're roughly at the midway point of the season, perhaps one can base their current kenpom ratings 88/174 and 119 overall with where they stand heading into the A10 tournament to see if their is measurable improvement. I don't know what would be a good gauge of improvement in those numbers, I don't know if its reasonable to hope that they can get into the 70s offensively and 125ish defensively, top 75 overall by that point or not. An NIT bid, while less that ideal, would be great given all the turnover on this roster. Their is still much work to be done, but it continues in Philly on Wednesday night; it will be interesting to see how the team responds. Do they continue the good ball movement, or do they get stagnant and start playing hero ball? Do they force bad shots early in the clock thinking they can make everything in site again, or are they patient and work the ball in/out creating open shots for their teammates.

almost anything you post can be disputed pal... like for instance it is not after one great game, you are once again WRONG... over the last 3 games, the Dayton Flyers lead the nation in 2 pt field goal %... and since when is supporting our Flyers {talking crap!!!}.. if you feel that way, truly feel that way I suggest you leave this site - you are becoming an annoying spammer

So its been roughly a month since I made this post. The good news, UD has improved quite a bit on the offensive end, moving up to 66th in the country according to KenPom. The bad news, the defense has fallen more than the offense has improved, 237th (yikes).

jack72 02-08-2018 02:50 PM

As several of us said earlier, the defense is our bigger problem. Offense gets headlines, like last night and against VCU earlier, but defense can win more games. A huge step forward last night. That was the best man defense this year. Still a ways to go, but in case others did not notice, we won a a game and played very little zone.

Sea Bass 02-08-2018 02:56 PM

Dukes made a number of tough shots. They weren't that bad offensively, just by comparison.
