Bracket Pool

I don't know who started it or if anyone controls it but there is a UDPride bracket pool on CBS Sports. I just saved my bracket from another pool on the UDPride bracket for kicks.

great. Can someone post the link here.

love to be in it!

Thanks. This is way beyond my level. I will delete the other one.

Edit - I can't delete it but I am not sure I did it correctly anyway and probably nobody will find it anyway.

After Day 1...

Top 3

David84 with 14/16 correct & best possible 61/64 correct
CJ also with 14/16 correct, but a best possible of only 56/64 correct
A log jam at 3, but MNFats with 13/16 & best possible of 59/64 correct

Here’s hoping X makes history tomorrow...

Flyer 86 03-16-2018 11:15 AM

Rollo is LURKING with 12 out of 16 with no major losses

Flyer 86 03-16-2018 11:17 AM

David84 really in the lead. And has Villanova winning it all.

Flyer 86 03-16-2018 11:39 AM

Alotta people got in on Loyola, URI, and a couple on Buffalo.

Some also figured out Houston was good. As well as Tenn, Seton Hall and Bama.

Interesting brackets this year. A good 12 to 15 teams can win it all.... not just the usual 8 suspects.

David84 03-16-2018 02:50 PM

With UD's lack of performance this year, I watched less college basketball than the previous several years, so my bracket picks were mostly by name and reputation. Went 14-2 Day 1, but 0-1 so far Day 2. Interesting that living in TX, TX schools represent two of my three losses. However, I have watched several Villanova games this year, and feel that they can win the whole thing.

2nd round, day 1:

The Ramblers are the toast of the town and are back to the Sweet 16 for the first time on 33 years. Unfortunately, many of the usual suspects like UK & KU are also back. Depending on your bracket, that may or may not be a good thing.

#1. King Rollo with a score of 38 and best possible of 176
#2. King Rollo 2 (not his progeny, but his second bracket) also with a score of 38, but a best possible of only 120
#3. UDPride Stud with a score of 37 and best possible 161

Second Round, Day 2

Major shake up in the brackets. The plucky Retrievers of UMBC gave K-State all they could handle, but ultimately bowed out in a hard fought, close game. IMHO, the Retrievers acquitted themselves, and all "low majors" for that matter, quite well in this tournament. Team Harry Potter continued to advance, undoubtedly due to copious Hail Marys performed by their photogenic chaplain. Cincy spit the bit; the Tar Heels were tarred & feathered; and Sparty left the party.

I absolutely despise the ACC, but I found myself gleefully doing the FSU tomahawk chant (much to the chagrin of my Florida-grad significant other). Hopefully schadenfreude will make the couch a little softer tonight.

OBTW, who dressed Frank Martin tonight? Stevie Wonder or Herb Tarlek?

#1: King Rollo with a score of 44 and a best possible of 112
#2: King Rollo Jr. with a score of 42 and a best possible of 106
#3: Sarge 2 with a score of 41 and a best possible of 125

Sweet Sixteen, Day 1

Team Harry Potter and the Purple Nurples will square off to see which 8+ seed makes the Final 4. TTUN also gets a shot vs. Efff-Esss-Shoo.

#1: King Rollo with a score of 46 and best possible of 102
#2: Scott McAvoy with a score of 45 and a best possible of 65
#3: Mini-King Rollo with a score of 44 and a best possible of 112

Despite King Rollo’s dominance thus far, CE80 has the best possible score of 140

Runnin' Rebel 03-23-2018 02:11 PM

So how many of you had Loyola playing Kansas St ?

First time a #9 will play a #11 in the Elite Eight.

I really enjoyed the Loyola-Nevada game... #2 game of the tourney so far for me (UMBC-VA being #1).

You could just feel the twins willing Nevada to the win at the end of the game... until Townes hits the big 3 at the end.

As Bill Raftery would say - "Dagger!"

As always I was multi tasking as I watched Nevada last night. Sunday against UC was the first time all year I watched them, and well, I was out of town and drinking heavily at the time so that game does not count.

Near the end of the game last night I was thinking "that dude" is a stud, he is everywhere on the court. About that time I see "that dude" is standing next to his twin brother and realize that the reason "that dude" was everywhere is there are two of him. SMH and asking why I am admitting this to anyone.

cj 03-23-2018 02:58 PM

If the incorrigible rollo wins the pool I will take one for the team and treat him to lunch. If he wins and anyone wants to join and suffer through his endless gloating let me know and I will let you know when.

Sweet Sixteen, Day 2

In the "I wish they could both lose" category, Duke bested Syracuse, while Villanova sent Huggy Bear packing. Issac Haas-less Purdue went back to West Lafayette while Brad Brownell guaranteed a fat contract extension by making it to the Sweet Sixteen (but no further, thanks to Kansas).

#1: King Rollo v2.0 with 58 points, but a potentially ominous best possible score of only 74.
#2: Doug Wales with 56 points and a best possible of 88
#3: UDPride Stud with 55 points and a best possible of 119

Several Pridesters are lurking with best possible scores well north of 100 with CE80 & Big UD Fan leading with 136 and 126 respectively. The fates of Villanova, Kansas, Duke, and Mee-chi-gan look to be where this UD Pride tourney will be decided.

With my brackets firmly ensconced in LaSalle territory, I'm rooting for Harry Potter U. to win it all.

Elite 8, Day 1

I wanted to watch the games, but The Eagles only come to town once in a blue moon. Like a fine wine, Joe Walsh just gets better with age. Except Joe is more like a tequila shot with a Jack chaser...

Gryffindor proved it's the best in the Hogwarts region by upending the Purple People Eaters. TTUN succeeded where their football team has consistently fallen short by proving they're the best in the BIG, as well as their region.

#1: King Rollo x King Rollo with a score of 66 and a best score of 74
#2: BigUDFan with a score of 62 and a best possible of 126
#3: Tom Payne with a score of 59 and a best possible of 115

Elite 8, Day 2

I used to like Villanova back in the 80s (they practiced in Alter's gym before their '85 tourney run) when they were a plucky upstart. Now, they're just part of the problem, much like the other Final Four participant selected today, Kansas. Here's hoping Harry Potter has a spell to help Loyola win it all. Corruptus Monopolius Implodicus

#1: BigUDFan with a score of 78 and a best possible of 126
#2: CE80 with a score of 72 and a best possible of 136
#3: Doug Wales with a score of 72 and best possible of 88

How are they part of the problem? We need to hope non p5 schools keep winning the title, in order to stop the p5 from starting their own division.

That seems like speculation, we may have decided to play somebody else, such as Auburn, Ole Miss, etc., instead of a BE opponent.

I see no evidence of the BE refusing to play A10 schools: St. John's vs. St. Joe's on a neutral court this year, Georgetown at Richmond this year, Providence at UMass this year, etc.

I'd guess they are really clean, but they must spend an awful lot of time in the weight room (and please spare us all the self anointed king BS!!!!! It is really trite)

CE80 03-27-2018 12:53 PM

For those still interested:

BigUDfan leads with a current score of 78 and has Kansas winning it all. A Kansas win on Saturday night would bring the total up to 94 and BigUDfan would be the bracket champion regardless of what happens in Monday night's National Championship.

Yours truly (CE80) and doug wales are currently tied for second with a score of 72. Both have Villanova winning it all. A Villanova win on Saturday night would bring each total up to 88. A Michigan win over Loyola-Chicago would give CE80 the bracket championship. A Loyola-Chicago win would keep CE80 and doug wales tied going into Monday night. The bracket winner would be the one with the closest prediction to the final combined score.

Anyone currently in 3rd place (or worst) can't surpass both current first or second place because even if you have Kansas or Villanova winning it all, the current first or second place brackets points will increase just as much as yours.

I think this is correct but as my wife can attest to, I have been wrong before.

Thanks. I did pick two #1 seeds so I didn't really stretch too far. I am in good shape in a small neighborhood pool but I am barely mid-pack in a very large (1000 ish ) pool. That pool is based in Syracuse and the points each round are multiplied by the seed. Of course all those Syracuse fans had them winning at least a couple of games and with an 11 seed, there were a lot of points to be gained. Of course I had Syracuse losing in the first round.

Viperstick 04-01-2018 12:59 AM

Not to be anticlimactic, but...

Midnight struck sometime around 7:30 PM EDT when Mee-chee-gan went on a torrid run that not only brought them back from a 10 point deficit, it pretty much blew the Ramblers (and Sister Jean) out of the arena before the game officially ended.

At least Harry Potter U. showed up. I'm guessing Bill Self and the Jayhawks missed their flight and hired some guys who couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time to take on 'Nova. Color me unimpressed with the national final line up, but that's not unusual in this day & age.

As CE80 presented above, with a Nova win tonight, he is the official champion of this year's Pride Basketball Challenge as no one can mathematically overtake his position. Congrats CE, I believe Rollo owes you a Milano's sub.

#1: CE80 with a score of 104 and a best possible of 136
#2: Doug Wales with a score of 88 and a best possible of 88
#3: UDPride Stud with a score of 87 and a best possible of 119

If TTUN wins, the standings will stay that way. If 'Nova wins, Doug Wales drops out and UDPride Stud becomes #2 and Tom Payne becomes #3.

shocka43 04-01-2018 06:36 AM

I say we all root for Villanova on Monday. I know our pal "NovaFlyer" who passed last year will be smiling down. There is a great picture on his facebook of he and his wife...he's got his Nova gear on and she has her Flyer gear on..with the 2017 NCAA trophy from a year and a couple weeks ago.

Wildcats for the win.

Some day, when you least expect it, a scruffy old guy, pushing a shopping cart full of aluminum cans will come up to you and say - hey King, how about that sandwich.

Please, give everyone a one-day warning as to when you're going to push that shopping cart into Milano's. I think we may all want to listen for the King to accept that he didn't win the pool. (Notice, I didn't say he'd accept he had lost. :) )

Was fun watching the games as usual, esp Loyola. But Nova and Kansas and others as well! And watching our personal numbers ebb and flow with each round.

I needed Nova to lose to be competitive. And Purdue or Gonzaga to push in another round or 2. I'll never pick Gonzaga again, not sure why I even did :)

Have any of you ever done one of these before?

There are a whole lot of games left.

King Rollo the Generous...OUT!

I just thought I would revive this thread as a reminder. Also, in doing my research, I realized I still have a sammie coming my way.

As always, CE80 is a bit premature.
