Pretty small team. We should be able to clean the boards and pound it inside. Good matchup game for Robinson/Scott, Pierre and Oliver. Not a Kav or Frenchman type matchup.

You think there is any chance we would ever see a line up with Oliver being the tallest guy out there? Oliver, Pierre, Sibert, Sanford and Price or Scoochie?

Did Bucky really just say that Gav is our best pure shooter? I didn't have the pregame on, but a buddy texted me that.

That's what he said.

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 02:13 PM

I miss the Matt K who was basically automatic at the FT line.

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 02:15 PM

UD up 12-4 with 15:30 left

m21eagle45 01-01-2014 02:30 PM

2-7 from FT line...

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 02:30 PM

Now 18-16 UD with 10 to go

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 02:33 PM

UD 5-6 from the land of plenty, now lead 27-20.

Check that: 32-20 after DMO makes another 3

jack72 01-01-2014 02:35 PM

Oliver needs to take more threes

I guess that Gav should as well.

San Diego Flyer 01-01-2014 02:44 PM

Question?

Ok, we are now 3-9 from the free throw line, and 6-7 from 3pt land. Are you allowed to back up to the 3pt line to shoot your freethrows??

That is just terrible FT shooting. How many more games will it cost them.

Another missed FT now shooting 30%

That was supposed to be more sarcastic than serious.

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 02:50 PM

41-28 at the half

rollo 01-01-2014 02:56 PM

sarcasm...

If #35 would quit taking shots from so far away his % would go up....or maybe UD can lower the rim to 9' when he has the ball...

jack72 01-01-2014 02:57 PM

Can we have someone designated to shoot free throws for Pollard? Like a 3rd grader

If he drew iron, that's progress.

Flyer'95 01-01-2014 03:11 PM

Is there a stream online to watch this one?

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 03:14 PM

If Fox Sports Ohio is involved, the answer will always be "no."

udflyerhoops2 01-01-2014 03:16 PM

Arena's practically dead today. Up 15 and it might as well be crickets.

UD7578 01-01-2014 03:16 PM

I have it on via First Row sports site. Not necessary to use "required" download.

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 03:18 PM

Archie whips out a full court press and Winthop coughs up the ball. Me likey!

Maybe they can put the Wisconsin v S. Carolina Bowl game on the video screens.

Sid Louick 01-01-2014 03:32 PM

Apparently the game is so boring, Larry Hansgen isn't even keeping up with all the passes.

Swampy Meadows 01-01-2014 03:36 PM

Josh Davenport was good enuf at Moeller that UD was tracking him and he ended up at Winthop.

Warm up the airplane for Oxford, MS

rollo 01-01-2014 03:45 PM

Where's St. Francis - Steubenville when you need them?

Our home opponents keep getting worse...something I didn't believe was possible.

Needless to say, that trend is about to reverse itself

In my opinion, a win at Oxford would be very significant. Winning on the road always is tough. Beating a power conference team on the road is a big deal...and Ole Miss' record is good. Odds of a win? Below 50-50,...hope I'm wrong.

(But, ending the OOC portion of the schedule at 12-3 would look pretty heady, IMO,...and most likely would get UD votes in the polls.)

Canonball 01-01-2014 04:00 PM

Another nice W for the guys! Time to go on the road and get one. Going to be tough at Ole Miss.

preparing press for Ole Miss and A10 play?

I would like that also! Even if ahead 10 points

Chris R 01-01-2014 05:35 PM

Great turnout by the fans today. Not loud, but plenty of them. To get that many butts in the seats on New Years Day for Winthrop is pretty amazing. Very few colleges could pull that off.

Last night Houston hosted UConn and there were 4,035 people there to see the Cougs beat a ranked Husky team. If UD hosted UConn on NYE or NYD, the place would be sold out.

66flyer 01-01-2014 06:15 PM

The fans seemed plenty loud to me, especially since we were scoring at will quite a bit of the time. I keep yelling at Gav--"You're not Luke!", lol. But was so glad to see his dunk and an unbelievable 3 at the end because his mom was still here. At the three she covered her head in her hands in amazement, lol.
I know some of you think games like this are boring and meaningless, but I love them. I love to see my Flyers wipe up the floor with an opponent because it doesn't happen very often and I can breathe normally the whole game.
I hope this game propels the team with confidence at Ole Miss. The one thing I worry about is the FTs in a game where we really need them. Hope this is an aberration. Most of the other games, they did OK in that dept.
GO FLYERS!

watched some of PSU and MSU yesterday. Box said 7300 but there were maybe 5000. Team ranked in the top5 and no one shows up in Happy Valley

Whacker 01-01-2014 07:33 PM

One of the best two-way performances of the year regardless of the opponent. For as much it's hard to shake the Eyeore mentality that Flyer fans have been saddled with for a decade of stubbed toes in conference and breath-stealing buzzer-beating threes, Arch is the guiding light. It's comforting that he sees what we see and is addressing it. The last two games he's discussed defense almost exclusively in the pre/post-game comments. He has repeatedly made the comment that this team will only go as far as their defense. Multiple times tonight (regardless of the score) he called a TO on a blown assignment to get subs in for the guilty party.

I never saw a coach call a timeout as fast as the one Archie called after Pollard's man lost him and drained a w-i-d-e open three. :D

Was in the Pep Band today and saw the bricks he was chucking from the line at that end of the court. When was the last time you saw someone shoot with a consistent side-spin?

I saw it today. And I repeat - it was a SIDE-spin! Kinda llike this...:worried:

I heard Norm & Brooks (during Feedback) after Sunday's game say that you don't want to mess too much with a guy's shooting form once he gets to this level. If they had seen what I saw today, however, I'd hope they'd be willing to make an exception.

San Diego Flyer 01-02-2014 09:39 AM

This win is a good sign that we are maturing as a team. We are all weary of seeing double-digit underdogs take the game to us in the first half while we scrape out a single digit win in the second half.

Yesterday we got on top of them early and then abused them clear to the end. It's one of those inocuous things that shows we really are developing a bench and the killer instinct.

TA111 01-02-2014 10:42 AM

Defense has really stepped up the last two games. Keep in mind that Winthrop was averaging 77 points per game and put up 72 against VCU. They usually a good offensive team even though they have a poor record. This team is lightyears ahead of where we were last year at this time.

While the win over Winthrop cost UD RPI-wise, the 34 point margin of victory raised the Flyers Sagarin ranking 8 points - from 54 to 46. The RPI formula doesn't consider margin of victory, while Sagain's methodology does.
