Golden Blowout at URI

It was a rout. Of major proportions. How many road games has My Team played the last 20 years where the game was pretty much over at the 10 min mark? Not many.

With that said, there were many, many Golden performances. Today I'm only allowing 1 vote because the person I hope to see walk away with the Gold should do so without any doubt as to whether he earned it.

With that said, Go Flyer!

My Team!

King Rollo...OUT!

Almost voted Landers. His “Trey” almost went in!! Seems he’s going for some kind of record now standing at 13 in a row. Has missed every single attempt since conference play started. Now down to an incomprehensible 14% on the year. Keep firing big guy, you’re wide open and you’re no quitter.

Crutcher

Jeff 02-10-2019 09:32 AM

Crutch, Crutch, Crutch.

When he hits outside shots, the O begins o go!

Cohill quietly > Landers.

What is it with you? We win a League game on the road at a place that's tough to visit. And we win by 29 points, and that's all you can take from the game?! I voted for Landers just for you. If you keep pounding on Landers do you think AG will cut him? Landers is a captain who wants to win as much as anyone the floor. And who the hell are you?

LIBob 02-10-2019 09:53 AM

Not to be a nit-picker, but that was Greer’s 2nd career basket. Had a 3 against St. Joseph’s last year.

I would have voted for you if it was an option. We are going need you on your game again in Amherst.

He’s hiding behind a made up account name. Dont’t waste your energy.

That's a first!

The King stands corrected!

Shocker... We go on the road and win by 29... No choice for Coach Grant

Like I said we win, no credit for him... We lose it's all his fault lol

Sorry King unacceptable ha

I will be there! This year could be a first with a New England sweep.

!

Wait, only 1 vote now? :)

I have to think instead of just randomly clicking, which is the way it should be.

Although I would love to vote for Crutcher more than one time today.

jack72 02-10-2019 11:39 AM

Crutcher with a slight edge over Toppin, and maybe because Obi is getting so good we expect that kind of performance. Coach Grant third, and maybe first, because he challenged these guys manhood, and got them to play a great game. For Crutcher it was his best game as a Flyer. Poor Fats, who was so hyped last year, he looked like a HS senior trying to guard Crutch. If Jalen is hearing the footsteps of those transfers, he is responding like a man. Give him 10 more pounds of muscle and a more consistent shot, and he is an NBA prospect in two years.

Those four votes for anyone other than Obi, Crutcher or Grant make a mockery of the poll. Landers being listed, but not Grant, is not right.

Wanting to win and actually contributing are not the same.

Ah yes. Indian reservations are a region unto themselves.

Haha yes I guess I selectively forgot about that game...but yes they are a sovereign nation.

CvilleFlyer 02-10-2019 08:10 PM

Crutcher had his most complete game since early in the season so I voted for him! Would have voted for Anthony Grant because it was apparent he finally got through to the whole team as to what it was going to take to beat Rhody in a hostile environment. He challenged their manhood and they responded.

CT Flyer 02-10-2019 08:36 PM

The nice thing for us was their crowd, which was their largest of the year (and usually is along with the PC game when they host), never got a chance to be hostile.

Ok, but where do you get the idea that in a blowout win, some player has to be BLAMED and VILIFIED for not doing more?

Alberto Strasse 02-10-2019 08:44 PM

Congratulations

to AG, staff and team on a fine performance. I loved the time out by coach following two offensive rebounds by Rhodey early in the first half. The defense was superb all game long and most Rhodey possessions ended with a Dayton rebound.

Any coach worth his weight in salt gives credit for a win.

Any coach worth his weight in salt always takes the blame for a loss.

That's my thinking on the Polls. Sometimes I include AG because I actually believe he was the reason we pulled out an unexpected win, but in all honesty can any of you give AG the most credit for the URI win??

Like CO2/global warming, I believe AG 'contributed' to the win, but he's not the cause of it.

Unless AG built a robotic suit that allowed him to control our 6-12 shooting from 3, and somehow created a vudoo doll that made URI go 3-19 at home, then he simply gets credit for doing his job in my book.

When you have superior talent by that wide of a margin you can only screw it up, you can't be the cause of the win.

That's why coaches only take blame for losses. If you have superior talent you're supposed to win. If you don't, it takes a heroic effort by the players to win.

My two cents. Maybe it was good shooting because the coaching staff scouted URI's defense, and then came up with a game plan to exploit it and get good, open shots, thus increasing the likelihood of completions.

Also, maybe there was a good defensive game plan. Maybe the staff figured out a way to stop first or second options, forcing a poor shooting URI team to rely on jacking up threes, which they aren't good at.

I agree you certainly need talent, and you win with players performing well, but a good game plan certainly helps.

I voted for Obi.

CE80 02-11-2019 08:57 AM

I watched a replay of the game - I distinctly heard AG yell bank on Greer's shot. That is all you need to know.

I’ve stated this many times, 85% of being a great coach is recruiting talent, the remaining 15% is X’s and O’s. You can’t tell me that Calipari is some X and O genius. Anyone who gets 5 McDonalds All Americans every year is going to be successful.

Nearly every other coaching staff of a team of equal or greater talent has accomplished that same goal. Not really a ringing endorsement for the outstanding performance of the game. Just watch the game film of every other team and say "go do that".

Professor Francis Henninger taught me: don't thank people for doing their job. Game planning for a significantly weaker opponent is table stakes.

In my opinion from watching the game, URI missed their first few shots and gave up. Dayton let out our frustrations. It happens. John Wooden isn't a good enough coach to generate a 30 point difference between the 2 teams.

even with only 2 points, Trey contributed: in 11 less minutes of playing time, he had the same number of rebounds, 2 more assists, 1 more steal and 2 less turnovers than Josh C.....
he contributes every time he is on the court....

who did he guard when he was out there? how was his defense.... I wasn't able to see the game, was not to the point of seeing yet, that's why I am asking if his defense was good, it normally is...

yes, he needs to not put up threes, but he does contribute when he is out there, and to insinuate otherwise really, truly may be grounds for removing your officer grade and demote you back to basic trainee....)

rollo 02-12-2019 08:13 AM

Trey only cares about W's, not points

Defense only matters if you're last name is Cohill.

no no no...defense matters no matter what your last name is.... a true king knows this,
and there should be no discussion about it...

that's how my team does it..

steverino out!...)

rollo 02-12-2019 11:37 AM

Of course defense matters in the overall picture but we're in the Golden Poll thread and are talking about how to earn votes. Sir Trey will always get my attention both offensively, defensively and even during stoppage of play where he still is 'team' oriented. But not everyone on My Team is judged accordingly in the Golden Poll threads.

but I was responding to someone else, who should be demoted to basic trainee, who was insinuating sir Trey was NOT contributing because he missed a three pointer....

I was listing Trey's contributions to stop the Trey doesn't, or didn't contribute.... read the thread again, and you will see.....

you chose to respond to me, who was defending Trey from one of your officers who should be court martial and processed.....)

steverino015 02-12-2019 03:03 PM

Figgie, I could get behind you right now on your coup attempt....) just kidding... not really....) yes I am...
