Support This Team...

The odds suggest a rebuilding year. I agree..
No rose colored glasses here. A NCAA bid is very doubtful.
However, support this team, and Coach, and the Universirty of Dayton Flyers
I have no doubt we will be back and better than ever in two years
Best to All

I don’t understand the low expectations on this board.
I hope the players don’t have the same attitude as many of the posters here.
We lost some great players, but the cupboard is far from empty.
No reason why this team can’t compete for the A10 title and make a run at the tournament.

I tend to agree...let's not have such low expectations. It may indeed turn out to be a rebuilding year, but we looked pretty good offensively for the first time out. I have always thought that defense was more easily fixed than the ability to put the ball in the basket...ala tOSU! That Ball State team was a very good and experienced team, and we were missing Matej! Take one game at a time and hope that Anthony has a strategy to disrupt every opponent's style.

I love the A10, but let's not confuse it with the ACC. X, Josh, and DD are all capable of being All-A10 caliber players. I think we will stumble enough times that an at-large bid will be hard. But we are going to be a team that you don't want to play in the A10 tourney.

My expectations may not be as high as previous seasons - but I'm still hopeful that we have plenty to root for when March rolls around.

P.S. - I don't think anyone is talking about not supporting this team. We sold out a freaking exhibition game. So I don't think we need to worry about support.

Tastes great! Less Filling!

What is interesting is we always have this early season debate, ney, argument. Glass half full vs half empty. But this year with the newbies, including the coach, and the necessary development of the upperclassmen, the divide is larger IMO.

It really gets down to a debate over what is "possible" vs what is "probable". I agree with all the optimistic fans who think we "could" earn an NCAA bid.

I also haven't moved off my summer thoughts that a max of 17 wins also is not off the table.

I think the team has a hyper sine wave and it's going to be a heck of ride for us diehard fans.

I tried last night. I wore my Dayton Flyers hoodie to a Texas Hold'em game and had all kinds of bad luck, bad beats on the river. I don't know if I can do that again. I'm superstitious and now associate that hoodie as bad luck.

We were picked to finish fifth this year in the A 10... last year that equated to something like 21-9 (11-7 in A10).

Would seem about right for a preseason projection - if they pull-out a couple of unexpected games, and they could end up being a tournament team.

Perhaps I stated it wrong. I believe in AG. This year will be tough. That's all I'm saying

I think it depends on what you do with your expectations. I work with too many buckeye fans who think they should never lose any game and can't enjoy any season that doesn't end with a national championship. They are miserable to watch a game like Penn State with and even worse to be around when they lose a game. I never want to be that guy with UD no matter where the program goes.

Personally, I started getting that way a bit the last couple years and didn't like the ride as much as I personally felt like the team really underachieved Archie's last 2 years. UD basketball is a passion for my wife and I but for the enjoyment of watching the kids play as amateurs and students. They become like family to us watching them mature over the 4 years. At such time that it becomes win at all cost all the time, I wouldn't enjoy it as much or at all.

I hope for more and realize it is possible but my expectations for this year is NIT at best and if this team plays hard, improves as individuals and as a team, plays like a team and shows promises for 2018 then I will be happy with whatever the results are. Too much has changed and too little or unproven talent exists to expect more.

Having said that,we are here in Charleston and will still follow the team each game at home win or lose. I can just except that this year has too many changes for me to expect another NCAA birth. That attitude allowed me to really enjoy the game last Friday despite the mistakes and breakdowns on defense most of the second half. It was a very entertaining game and I was able to appreciate that aspect while still emotionally cheering from my seat.

I'm sure there were similar (low) expectations after it took a Jordan Siebert prayer to defeat IFPW. That season didn't turn out too bad did it?
