They have the whiniest coach in the history of the Atlantic 10. If things go south for his team, I'm sure it'll be the refs fault. And he'll get a T.

You are correct we are 13-11.
It's odd when you look at it, because it's a few streaks.
UD won the first 7 since 2000 started.
RI won 3 of the next 5 games.
RI then won 7 straight.
UD won the next 4.
And RI won last year at the Arena.
Before the 99-00 season, we had lost the previous 2. And UD/URI both won at home the 3 games between the 95-96 and 97-98 regular seasons.

the biggest thing to is relative to other conference members, URI seems to play the best/win the most in Dayton.
doesnt hurt the dramatic fashion it usually happens in either, makes it easier to stand out in memory.

We have lost to St Bonnie at home twice in history. Rhode Island has beaten us at the Arena 5 times just since 2004.

Most victories at UD Arena for current A10 conference foes is 5, by Rhode Island. Saint Bonaventure only has 2 victories at UD Arena in conference games. (2nd with 4 victories is George Washington.)
Rhode Island has the 2nd best UD Arena A10 conference record at .417 behind VCU at .500 (1-1) among current A10 conference foes.
3 current A10 foes (Davidson, GMU, Fordham) have never won an A10 conference game at UD Arena, and 3 teams have 1 victory (VCU/Richmond/La Salle).
(Specifically A10 games, MCC/GMW isn't included.)

More importantly, this was Dayton's first top 50 win.

Ed Cooley says we had more loud fans at St B than they did, so once again that counts as a home game for UD. :outtahere:

SDF--that shouldn't surprise anyone. Weren't Dayton fans recently voted as BEST TRAVELING FANS?
I heard loud (LOWD) cheering of DEFENSE! DEFENSE! every time ST. Bon had the ball. I also saw a lot of red shirts in the crowd, even though there was no fan bus.

Just finished reading and thoroughly enjoying 7 pages of the Keaney Blue thread about their loss at Dayton. The first 2 pages were predicting a URI win since CC was still out. The last 5 pages were after the game had started and were mostly whining, even in the first half when URI led. Now we really have to repeat this win at their place. I'm hoping CC will be back by then. I couldn't believe one fan said they had now lost 4 games to "lesser" teams. Who's he calling lesser? The Flyers won this game without CC, in spite of crappy reffing and a lot of dirty play by the Rams. I'd like to use another word besides "crappy', but then I would be lowering myself to the level of many URI fans on their board. YIKES! Thank you, UD Priders for restraining yourselves from using the F WORD, even when it's probably warranted. :D

I really like that board...they are very passionate and knowledgeable, they keep tight tabs on all that is going on with their Rams, the A10, and in college basketball...cussing is allowed on that board, which I like...lol.
I feel bad for them...no NCAAT since 1999.

From a physical standpoint they could say that their Rams are superior but thankfully bball games aren't always won by the most physically imposing team
They always have a very strong athletic team which is why they gave us fits when we were relied on athleticism

I would say the Rams have more raw talent on the floor, but, as always, one of our most important weapons doesn't wear a uniform. Miller would take that team to the sweet 16. They are loaded with weapons, but like most teams, we now look down our noses at their lack of cohesive team play.
Garrett vs. SS: Garrett is really good, 2:1 A/TO ratio and 8 PPG, but SS is the better player. And CLUTCH.
Iverson vs. Mikesell/XW: Stats are similar, but Iverson is a senior. And plays a little more high energy. Hard to make an objective call here. For 1 game probably Iverson.
Terrell vs. Cooke: Cooke -- solidly. But Terrell is a good player. But DD?? Definitely Terrell.
Martin at full strength vs. our entire front line (at the same time): Martin. Dude is averaging over 3.5 blocks per game! Plus 14.5 points. Sweet stroke and shoots 65% from the field. What a weapon, they didn't use him very well last night. Pollard is fantastic and plays with amazing energy, but Martin has the better total skill set.
EC Matthews vs. KD: EC is just loaded with offensive talent that KD won't ever have. Bud KD has something EC doesn't appear to have in spades and that's heart. EC is the better player, who knows what he would have been in a Flyer uniform? In this version of the universe I'll take KD. He's the heart of this team.
I think if Miller had their 5 players and our 5 had gone to RI for their careers, we would be a top 25 team right now. BUT, that makes a big assumption that the RI players would be willing to fit into Miller's system, and maybe that's why Miller didn't recruit them.

We recruited EC very hard and were in the final 2 for him. He picked URI over UD.

I get your point, though I'm not sure St. Mary's is a lesser team. But it's not hard to imagine UD at 14-1 had those lousy, mega first-half deficits not materialized.

The Flyers teams that lost these three games were the lesser teams due to injuries.
Let's not forget, things we're looking pretty grim after the Alabama game with both Josh and Kyle unavailable and X playing more like he did last year than the way he has been playing of late.
All things considered, i think we recovered well and put ourselves in a good position at this point in the season.

I had not been to that board in many months, so I just skimmed the thread titles to see what had been going on.
So, anyway, I did not at all realize that there is a fairly high level of discontent with Coach Hurley. The consensus opinion, after only reading the first page of a 15 page thread, seems to be that Hurley is a good recruiter but a poor bench coach.
A few years ago, they were elated to be free of Jim Baron, Hurley's predecessor, but now they are maybe back into a rut again.
Shows you how vitally important hiring the right head coach is.
That board almost sounds like this board sounded pre-Archie.
I wish them the best of luck.

I hated the Barons, especially since the son seemed to be able to hit 25' 3's on command and whip us. Can't believe they let coach Baron go but silliness is pervasive in college basketball coaching decisions nowadays...wonder what coach Baron is doing today? Hopefully drinking a pina colada on a mexican beach watching espn...

Baron retired from coaching after being at Canisius for 4 years.

By 2012, Baron's last year, the situation was toxic. He laid a solid foundation between 2001-2007 from the house fire that was the Jerry DiGregorio experiment.
In 2008 he had an experienced roster with talent. They were ranked 22nd in the AP at one point. They started off 14-1, made it halfway through the A10 schedule at 19-4 and then proceeded to lose seven of their next 9 including 1st round loss in conference tourney. Completely tanked any chance of at-large.
In 2009-10 they again had NCAA expectations, but ended up 22-9 (11-5) and lost in the first round of the conference tourney again.
In 2010-11 Baron's rams were again well-positioned for an at-large going 12-1 in the non-con and were sitting at 19-3 (7-2) in conference before losing 5 of their last 7. They bounced back in the conference tourney getting to the semi-finals before losing. Their 23-9 record wasn't enough to get an at-large and they made a nice run in the NIT, losing to UNC in the semis.
In 2011-12 they never won more than three in a row and finished 18-12 (9-7) well outside of at-large discussion.
Baron went 7-24 his final season and had been there 10 years, averaged 18 wins a season and had 0 NCAA tournament bids. It's easy to forget that prior to Jim Baron Sr, Rhody had been to NCAA Tourney 4 out of the previous 10 years.

They have had some recent good head coaches with good success...Al Skinner, Tom Penders, Jim Harrick, etc.
They made the Elite 8 under Harrick.
