I think we beat UMass once not too long ago in a first round A10 tourney game if I am correct. Maybe 2011 or 2012?

Is that with or without CT Flyer attending? :)

I knew it had to be St Joes. Our boys, no matter how good they are, always tank there. Can anyone remember Archie musing "I don't know what to do" while being spanked there?

TX Flyer 01-10-2019 07:59 PM

Good thing x isn’t in the a10 anymore. Good grief st joes makes that streak look short term

86-109 on the road with almost half of those wins against perennial bottom dwellers. That says quite a bit about our performance in the last two decades on the road in conference.

That's what happens when you go play in high school GYMS when you are used to big time arenas. I have no idea how to solve that problem

I guess the argument would be a new league. :-)

SeasonTicketFan 01-10-2019 10:22 PM

The program reaches the next level when it starts to win conference on the road against better teams.

The BG teams were awful A10 road teams. Archie's teams were better with signature wins in St. Louis and Rhode Island for example. However, Archie's teams were terrible in Philadelphia at LaSalle and St. Joe's. I don't recall any Archie team playing anything close to a decent game in either of those gyms.

Chris R 01-11-2019 12:40 AM

Its been nearly 8 years since we beat LaSalle at LaSalle.

LA SALLE.

Flyer68 01-11-2019 07:40 AM

8 years, really? No reason to doubt you. I find it hard to believe, and somewhat sad, that we could lose to LaSalle, coached by "Dr." Whatshisname, that much. Do remember back in 67 or 68 when we beat St. Joe's in the Palestra ending their long home game winning streak.

longtimefan 01-11-2019 09:28 AM

On Feb 6, 1985 UD beat DePaul 67-63 to snap DePaul's 36 game winning streak at the Rosemont Horizon. This was only 11 days after we had beaten them at home on the Dave Colbert buzzer beater and a year after "The Shot" by Ed Young.

OSU Flyer 01-11-2019 12:28 PM

When's the last time Dayton has won a game in Philly?

Nope, that was earlier. Chris Wright scored 27 points in the last victory at La Salle, going 11-22 from the field, with 5-6 from the free throw line. UD had a 17 point lead with 10:35 to go in the game, and a 15 pt lead with 6:44 to go and won by only 4. Chris Wright Dunk with 4 seconds to go finished the game at a 4 point margin before Sam Mills missed a 3 ptr at the buzzer.

Fortunately, La Salle and St Joes are at the Arena this year and the Bonnies are down. Our toughest road games are @ VCU, @ Davidson, @St Louis, @ Rhode Island, and @ UMass. Duquesne and Fordham are smoke & mirrors. First order of business, though, is beating the Minutia Men at the Arena. Last years team wasn't up to the task, let's see if this years squad is.

I think all of those games are winnable...and all of those games are loseable. Frankly, I’d be thrilled if our record in those 5 games is 3-2 or better. But, hey! New team. New season. Anything’s possible.

It is entirely possible for us to go 1-4 in those 5 games, Win all the rest and finish at the top of the heap in the A10.

Think it was '67...lots of chairs and sofas met their doom on Keifaber.
"The Hawk is dead" could be heard everywhere well into the night.

I think some people here are discounting how hard it is to win on the road in any league. Picking one team and 1 year totally at random, _avier in 06-07 goes 13-3 in conference. That's pretty frickin' good. They went 8-0 at home, 5-3 on the road.

They lost at:
St. Louis (20-13, 8-8)
St. Joe's (18-14, 9-7)
Duquesne (10-19, 6-10)

They won at:
Fordham (18-12, 6-10)
St. Bonny (7-22, 4-12)
GW (23-8, 11-5)
Dayton (19-12, 8-8)
LaSalle (10-20, 3-13)

So basically they beat 1 good team on the road (GW) and that's it. They took care of the bottom dwellers as expected (StB, LaS, Fordham) and picked up a winnable game against Dayton (who I don't believe even made the NIT that year, we weren't very good).

How did Dayton go 8-8 in conference that year? They went 6-2 at home. Plus we won at Temple (6-10) and St. B (4-12).

That's the story of every league, every year, every team. Win them all at home (8), beat the dregs on the road (2-4), go 0.500 against the middle tier (2-3), and maybe get a win against a pretty good team if you're lucky (1). That gives you between 12 and 14 wins and makes you top of your conference.
