Not quite as excited as I was as I fear we are now locked into the 8-9 game regardless of what we do in Pitt. I see us as an 8 seed if we will the A10 tournament and a 9 otherwise.

The 1 seed gets us Davidson (likely) and then RI or Bonnie? Sheesh, nice reward.

True, but I think we smoke them on a neutral court. Everything went wrong tonight and we still almost beat them.
Rhode Island is playing for an NCAA tournament berth and a win over Dayton would probably do it. Plus we would have to beat them three times in a season. Bonnie was kind of my A 10 tournament sleeper, but after seeing their draw I'm hoping not.

I agree with the GW thing but I'm just frustrated with tonight's game and that's the way its making me feel right now. URI is the team that scares me most.

Win the tourney. It is not a nothing, it is a big thing.
 Win more than 20 games
 Win regular season A10
Win A10 Tournament
 Get into NCAAT
Get to Second Week NCAAT
Get to Third Week NCAAT
National Champions
I want at least 5 bananas.

All of the teams in our bracket scare me. I am afraid of Rhode Island because of their athleticism. I have afraid of the other teams because they shoot the three-ball. If we defend like we did tonight, we are one and done. That was one horrible defensive effort.

This. Outright regular season champs, tourney champs, only 6 losses? We'd have at least one, maybe two more top 50 RPI wins... no way is that an 8/9 profile. Vandy winning helps us, Rhody's resurgence helps us too.
I'll be there with the fam starting Friday. As an aside, I probably have a couple tickets available for Friday evening's session if anyone knows anyone looking.

VCU has to be the favorite.
According to kenpom, Dayton needs to beat the #4 best team in the A-10 Davidson, then the #3 best team Rhode Island to reach the finals.
VCU has to beat the #7 best team in George Mason and then the #5 best team Richmond to reach the finals.
Even if Dayton gets there, they have to beat 2 really good teams whereas VCU has to be two average teams. So Dayton will be tired.
Draw is everything in the A-10 and NCAA Tournaments. Unfortunately, Dayton's draw is really bad. Let's hope the opposite happens for the NCCAA Tournament!

Will be there Fri as well. No use crying about A10 draw. Winning or losing vs GW would not have mattered. We've won 9 of 10 and our boys sunk all of themselves into VCU game to win regular season outright. That's what we all wanted! On to Pittsburgh...and beyond!!

Why in the world will Dayton be more tired? Doesn't VCU have to play 40 minute games? I don't buy that for a minute. These teams, except for the bottom 4, are all dangerous and if you don't come to play you will get beat.

Anybody know if the games will be streamed on the internet? The UD site just shows "listen" but no watch link. Can't believe I won't be able to watch the game out here on the west coast. That's one of the reasons I retired, so I could watch all the Flyers' games - especially tournament games.
And by the way, HUGE SHOUTOUT to the women's championship season! I know there is a women's forum, but this is a great achievement to be cheered by all UD basketball fans.

I second that SHOUTOUT! What a great story. Coach quits in September. Bring in new coach, struggle mightily out of the gate. Lose first A-10 game. Ship looks like it is sinking. Future of the program is in jeopardy! Then BAM! Win A-10 regular season and Tournament - handily none-the-less.
I have two daughters that play basketball. When we watch a UD game I tell them to keep their eyes on Kelley Austria and memorize how she plays the game and try to repeat it.

Archie commented on his radio show tonight about being nervous until your name is called on Selection Sunday. He reflected on 2 years ago when the team had a viewing party and was all confident and loose as they chomped on wings and pizza. And then they were all floored to find out they had to play in Dayton and were the last team to make it in. I'm still not over that travesty because I truly believe they were a Sweet 16 team if they didn't have to play 6 games in 9 days down the stretch with an already short bench. Almost hung on to beat Oklahoma despite all that!
You just never know. More often than not the committee seems to find a way to bungle things. I certainly hope that 2015 will stand the test of time as the worst job in Selection Committee history. If 2017 doesn't top that bad act then we're in more than safely regardless of what transpires in Pittsburgh. But if teams start to "gather steam" again, well... look out!

FWIW, I think it's incumbent upon the Flyer Faithful IN PITTSBURGH for the game to arrive early and do what we can to turn PPG Paints Arena into UD Arena, PA annex! Noon starts usually means the team that creates their own energy...and early...gains an advantage that's tough to stop.

And of course the A10 is too cheap to have their own completely painted/finished court. :angryfire:
Link below shows the arena people putting the stickers on the court that some player is inevitably going to slip on and get hurt. SMH.

I am with you Radar; as there is no sense in having the tournament relatively close, making the trip, and then sitting on your hands...so to speak, and waiting for something good to happen. The Flyers need the verbal support of the faithful; it helps defensive legs, boost energy, nerve racks the opponent, and heightens the flyers concentration level. I hope we are looking at a virtual UD Arena East atmosphere. If UD doesn't bring at-least two or three thousand, I will call that a low end and disappointing draw. My feeling is, no reason UD shouldn't get four or five thousand fanatics to the PPG Paints Arena, or more. I mentioned in another thread, you better get there and enjoy it, because the A10 tourney will not be getting anywhere near the UD Arena in the next ten years or more. It was only via negotiation mishap that the A10 commissioner stumbled her way to Pittsburgh...see the ACC negotiation debacle. In this sense, our support for Flyer Basketball is held against us.
However, there is a mutual street, and so hopefully there will be much to cheer for, as the Flyers have to give us something to cheer for. Cannot get down 15-20 points in the first ten to fifteen minutes of games.
Have Fun, Be Safe, remember to pack your winter like garments...Saint Paddy's Parade looks to be colder, and late night walks following night sessions down right chilly. But there is an Irish cure for that problem.
Go Flyers Beat Winners of Game #3!

Several of the Big Conferences have their own courts that are completely painted that they use every year and that they can just sand and repaint if they switch venues. Just watch throughout the week and you will see them. I've been watching the ACC in Brooklyn today and their court has no stickers. Heck their women's tournament had it's own specially painted court last week when they played in Coastal Carolina's arena. Do smaller conferences use stickers? Yes but I can't believe the A10 can't come up with enough money to get a court they can paint and use for multiple years.
Here is the Mountain West Conference Tournament court. They started using it in 2013 and this picture is from the 2016 tournament. If they can do it the A10 can.

Whoops. Gotta give it to Davidson. Gibbs wanted it more than anyone on the court, and he was a man among boys today. He outshined Scoochie and the rest. Archie got outcoached by the old wiley veteran. No idea how Davidson finished 9th in the A 10. They are a Top 5 team.

URI also came out aggressive early in their game. SBU did a good job to get back in but you had the feel like URI was always in command of the game from the start. That's what good teams do.
