Duquesne Game Thread
 

Recover and shake off the bad loss... Must win coming up on Saturday Afternoon at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Game is at Noon on Saturday and will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.

Starting Lineup:

G 1 Mike Lewis II 6’1” 175 FR St. Louis, Missouri
G 3 Tarin Smith 6’2” 180 SO Ocean Township, New Jersey
G 5 Emile Blackman 6’3” 195 GS Dix Hills, New York
F 45 Isiaha Mike 6’8” 200 FR Scarborough, Ontario
F 20 Nakye Sanders 6’8” 225 SO Staten Island, New York

They are balanced (have 4 guys that average in double figures)... Lewis leads the team at 12.8 PPG... Isiaha Mike went for 24 and 13 in their last game.

Get it done and then we get to go home for 2 before we head to the Siegel Center.

A couple nights ago at Halftime of the URI-LaSalle game , Gary Parrish made this incredibly astute observation:

"If Dayton is going to make the Tournament, the game against Duquesne is a must win"

I felt like i was listening to John Madden call a Vikings-Packers game.. Packers up 27-14

"Well Pat, if the Vikings don't score some touchdowns they are going to lose this game"

One break ill give Parrish, who i like and is a good Twitter follow, 99% of his Social media content is college hoops related. Seth Davis,Jerry Palm and Jay Bilas are insufferable with their political crap.

If Rollo was looking at just the first half line, it would be Duquesne by 6.........

I used 5dimes which has UD -6...a quick search shows everyone else at UD -10.5.

I'll take -6 :D if you take -10.5 :eek:

Let's face it, they are pretty much all must win games from here on out.

No question about that. i just find it very obvious.

By my count we can lose 2 conference games lose in the A-10 finals and get in.

Excellent decision by Kendall to pass up that 3 pointer.

Also Darrell just hit a layup!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Though it wasn't exactly a confident looking finish.

Best start to a game in a while.

Saw him in his warmups as they headed to timeout. Maybe Archie saw he wasn't completely ready, and figured it made sense to ease him back in?

This is an obvious comment and it's not intended to be an indictment against a specific player, but Dayton is just so much better offensively when they quickly move the ball. And I swear that pep and momentum carries over to the defensive end.

After the game Kendall made three 3's, Chris said, "The only thing worse then Kendall missing three 3's, was Kendall making three 3's"

Truer words have never been spoken. Kendall is a better player when he isnt shooting jumpers. Better for the True Team also

Here's the acid test. Crosby and Cooke are in...and we give up a bucket, and have a horrible offensive set. Nice bailout by X with the steal & layin.

Sam got a little tough love from arch after losing that rebound to the Duke player. Well deserved.

I have never seen two "carry calls" in the same game. Watch John Crosby for getting that called against him today.

I've sad it since he was a soph but I think Kyle Davis is the best finisher on the break in college basketball. Maybe a bit of an overstatement but he's very good.

He might be the best guard finisher ive seen since Johnny Davis (circa 1975) - And that's about as high a compliment you could ever give to a UD player...

He can do it. Granted, he's no Barkley, Dantley, or Malone, but he can do it. Plus, if he develops that part of his game, it opens the outside shots & passing lanes.

X paying very well. Coming into his own nicely.

Not that I had anything against him when he came into UD, but I can't believe how much I "sports love" that guy. He was in a funk at the beginning of the season, it seemed, but that guy has brought it basically every night for 3+ seasons...plus, let's face it: he makes sure this team respects their opponents but never fears their opponents.

Did all of you Cooke haters see that? He drove and then passed to Xman for a 3.

Also if you watch the ball doesn't get rotated as quickly when Crosby is in.

CC needs to get it together.

Man was I wrong about XW last year...

Then he followed it up with a forced drive and forced pass.

We need to play well without him for a while.

Even this season: he looked so lost and out of his depth against St. Mary's. Ever since then, though, it's like the light went on for him.

And Scoochie picks up his 2nd with 9:27 to play. This is where it went wrong at Umass.

Whatever your opinion is on the recent play of CC. If he lets things come to him, everyone benefits. When he forces the issue, things haven't been going well. Great player. Just don't try to do too much at the wrong time.

Cooke may be struggling offensively but he does still play great D.

I think it's also a combination of Crosby looks frantic and Smith looks smooth.

Why do announcers say stuff like "UMass is a tough place to play"? I was there Wednesday and there were no students beside the band and cheerleaders and they were lucky if the place was 1/4 full. We sucked and it had nothing to do with the Mullins Center.

I actually think the lack of crowd and enthusiasm there or any place else can make it difficult to play. It's difficult to get motivated to play in empty gyms when you are used to playing in front of good crowds.

And that was a forced drive by Cooke. Even I can admit that.

Interesting that you mention that. I was thinking the same thing...and I am dead serious about that.

Me too, Tommy. If you look back at his freshman year when he was Deadeye Darryl, he had a trim cut like KD, Scoochie, & KP now have. Now, both he and his hair are a hot mess.
