2017 Transfer Market
Odds are we might have some open scholarships and transfer season is starting to heat up.
Some guys that caught my eye
-Nebraska Soph. 6'7 F Ed Morrow averaged 9.4 points and a team-leading 7.5 rebounds. Played at Simeon in Chicago with Kendall Pollard. He had 19 & 10 against at the Wooden.
-Cleveland St. Soph. 6'4 G Rob Edwards. 2nd Team All Horizon League. Averaged 16.4 & 4.5 rebounds. Shot .354 from 3 & .765 FT
-St Johns Soph. 6'6 G Malik Ellison. Averaged about 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. 34% from 3. Son of former #1 pick and Louisville star Pervis Ellison. Supposedly a good defender and can play some point

If we lose McKinley Wright, hopefully we can snag Jaaron Simmons as a 5th year transfer. We'll need another PG.

I love transfer speculation, but without a coach or a real idea of who all is even going to be on the roster, there's not much point in looking at names unfortunately.
But this Jaaron Simmons thing does amuse me. No indication he actually wants to transfer, but we are just going to talk him into it by continually bringing it up here I guess.

We lose some of the freshman class or anyone else this is probably the best way to replenish talent vs what freshman we could find now

Simmons received permission from Ohio U to put his name into the NBA Draft...he said he won't hire an agent so he can return to OU. I have a hard time seeing him transfer out of OU considering they are working together on his NBA dreams.

Simmons isn't getting drafted, but it's a good experience for the kid. Good pub for Ohio U program. So nothing to lose. Simmons may love it at Ohio but I don't think the fact that they are "working together" on the draft process is evidence of him staying put. I would assume he would, but just has nothing to do with his.

Not a transfer but Jamari Wheeler, a 2017 PG got his release from Duquesne today. Notable because he is a 3 star prospect from Gainesville, Florida where Anthony Grant spent a lot of years and is well respected amongst high school and AAU coaches. Jamari has no shortage of other options but seemed pretty pumped about playing in the A10 from some of his quotes in various articles. Should things not work out with McKinley, he seems like a very logical target.

In the situation of a school FIRING the head coach whom you committed to, I am 99% sure the protocol is to give a full release, no restrictions. LOI is basically just torn up, and you act like it never happened. Now, the Atlantic 10 has a rule in place which penalizes intra-conference restrictions by mandating an additional year be sat out but that doesn't apply since Wheeler never enrolled at Duquesne. So he should be free to go anywhere and as I said before, he has no shortage of choices. In the last 24 hours alone (since receiving his release) he has been offered by Arkansas State, James Madison, Buffalo, Houston, Penn State, Auburn, and South Florida (Brian Gregory says hi!). Obviously, McKinley (and the other recruits) are going to be the first priority but if this kid doesn't rush into a decision and McKinley wants out, then I think there's a very good chance Dayton gets involved.

Alstork is good buds with Jaaron Simmons too. They're both going through the NBA draft process without signing agents of course. But yeah, sign me up for them as a package deal. If we lose a couple recruits, re-allocate those schollies to an all grad transfer starting back court, and we're on our way to a fifth consecutive NCAA tourney appearance. Who's in?

Not like Dayton needed another reason not to play Wright State, but the ability to place a waiver claim on their best players is going to come in handy one of these years!

He is three classes shy of graduating and is on schedule to do so this summer. Wright State is granting the release so that he may contact other schools if he chooses now. He can't transfer obviously though until he has his degree. Transferring his clearly his backup plan if he can't get drafted, and he won't get drafted, so he's going to need that backup plan.

Kobie Eubanks is a Fort Lauderdale kid who was at one time committed to Alabama. Committed to Avery Johnson but wouldn't surprise me if Anthony Grant was recruiting him prior to his firing being a consensus top 100 guy from a place Anthony knows well and has always recruited. Don't see any connection with Caleb, but worth watching Eubanks for sure.

Maybe he wants to surround himself with better players, a better team, a more proven coach, imo, and wants to win a NC should he decide for scUM. OSU with most of their roster back next year minus the terrible PG in Lyle that may be moved out of the starting lineup or to a 2 position..Both of those are draws..

Brantley put out a statement that he is transferring for a bigger role and to pursue masters in sports management. UD does not offer a masters program in sports management.

I think it is going to be hard to get a grad transfer. I believe the only reason they would transfer is to get onto a team that has probable/realistic NCAAT aspirations. I don't think that is the case for this team. Regular transfer (sitting out 1 year) is a whole different situation.

Plenty of kids feel they have one last shot and might want more mpg, more shots, more involvement with the offense, maybe leaving a program with a new coach. Things can get stale after 3-4 years...

Not hard at all. There are dozens of kids and not all can realistically expect NCAA tournament, especially since most of the powers are not going that route and most certainly don't offer much in the way of playing time. We will have plenty of interest, particularly with the immediate prospect of playing, assuming we lose some of the recruits.

DD is, and can be, a lot of things. But a PG isn't one of them. Even a Stephen Thomas type player would be a major upgrade from DD at the PG position. It's just not in his DNA.

I don't deny that there are guys out there. I just think that it won't be easy to find a grad transfer pg that will be an upgrade over what we have or what we will bring in as a freshman next year. We want someone that has the capability to play significant minutes. If they have been already doing that at another program, they are going to want to go someplace where there NCAAT potential increases. If not, why not stay where they are at? If they are from a lower level program and haven't been playing significant minutes, I am not sure they would be an upgrade for us. if they are from a higher level program and haven't been playing significant minutes, I would think they would look for one of those lower level teams that is a good bet to win their conference. If you look at our history of grad transfers - a Ryan Bass type player may be the one exception. He was a Dayton local so there is an attraction there. He also had some medical issues that other teams would not overlook.
I hope I am dead wrong and everyone reposts this and tells me so.

You may have missed this up-thread...was already posted. Some seem unexcited about Frankie Hughes. His shooting pct isn't very good. Don't know much about his game personally.

Trying to recall specifically, but don't believe Jordan Seibert's shooting percentage at OSU was very good either.
That said, Hughes was getting far more minutes.

No new transfers, no new recruits, no new assistants, no scheduling.
Go ahead and give us your thoughts on potato salad and any other side dish for that matter.

Charlie Moore a 4 star guard at University of California is leaving and joining the transfer ranks. He is from the same HS and AAU team as Josh Cunningham.
