Whacker, I think you hit it right on the head with the questionable play selection. With the game (and, arguably, the season) on the line, the play call was "what we've always done", instead of what was working for us on this day. That's reflective of a lack of recognition that "flow of the game" means something, which also is reflected in the substitution patterns that I've been b****ing about for years now.
And as far as who you blame is concerned:
-CW was in a no-win situation. He either accepts the responsibility knowing he's not having a good game, or he tells the coaches that someone else should do it and comes-off looking like he's not "up to the task" in the biggest game of the year.
-CW's teammates can't say "Why are we going with that play?" because the hidden meanings there are "We don't have confidence in our senior leader" and "What the h*** are you coaches thinking?"
No, that play selection is all on the coaching staff (BG
and the assistants) for not recognizing that CJ was having a great game, PW had started to make some clutch shots, and there were simply better options AT THAT MOMENT than the guy who was 3 for 12 with 6 TOs. Plain and simple.
Oh, well, hopefully we won't p***-away this year's Senior Night against
SLU like we did
last year's Senior Night against SLU. In the immortal words of Captain Tenneal from Spike-TV's MXC: "Let's get it on!"
