But Matt Doherty had all the same "advantages" that Larry Brown has. How did that work out? They sucked. Brown is not a saint, but he can flat out recruit and coach. He is a magnet for 4 star recruits, and it's largely due to the fact that he has many NBA connections that trust his judgement. He can sell a recruit guaranteed NBA exposure IF the kid is good enough to warrant it. These kids today are heavily swayed by that. No special "math" involved in that.
I think Shaka is getting the full exposure to Texas recruiting and wealthy alumni pressure.
Hopefully he will rise above it.
I'll take the Archie Miller way of recruiting any day. Frankly I wouldn't want SMU's transfers because they don't have their head in the right place.
Dayton recruits a different kind of player (thankfully), and offers a different life path and emphasizes basketball and personal development. Dayton doesn't recruit buckets of 4 star players, but UD graduates
tons of 4 star men into society.

Larry Brown resigns:

Now we will see how few 4 star recruits SMU gets. The have a good coach in waiting, but the string of recruits is going to take a hit. They are back on a level field.
