I don't know how anyone can spin the loss of Kostas as a positive, given his impact near the end of the season and his potential. But if he wasn't interested enough in school and he has other options - not much could've been done.
For whatever reason, AG didn't get contributions from Xeyrius. Really a shame - he was a real contributor previously. But based on multiple reports, it sounds like he didn't buy into the new system, and as such we're better off without him.
Pierce wasn't going to contribute much this year anyway - he was a long-term project. If he didn't buy in, not much loss and better that he leaves now than later.
Svoboda and Crosby didn't pan out as players, unfortunately. Next year, they'd probably both be better than an average freshman recruit at Dayton, but if we replace them with an average grad transfer then already we're looking better even next year. If they are replaced by a transfer or a freshman, it'd take a couple years but we're still better off in the long run.
Would've been nice to keep Kostas, but all things considered we're better off without those 5 than with them - assuming even average Dayton-level recruits and transfers. If AG ends up recruiting at a higher level than we're used to, then even better.
