Another guy...
...who couldn't defend. In `93-`94 Donyell Marshall was Big East player of the year and I believe first team All American. He was drafted #4 and was the first pick of the Timberwolves.
They got rid of him...their #1 pick,...half way through his first year. I recall the Timberwolves GM Kevin McHale saying that "the Big East player of the year can't play defense. We knew that when we picked him....but thought we could teach him....we were wrong".
Marshall was traded to the Warriors and subsequently played for about ten NBA teams...making a lot of money along the way. He was so good offensively that every team he played for apparently thought he was worth the chance.
Today he is a rich man.....but never met NBA expectations because of his defense. Everyone thought they could "teach" him.
