When you have a mostly healthy long-term relationship, there's not exactly a good way to end it. There will be hurt feelings no matter how or when it's done. All things considered and with a bit of time for reflection, Archie exited about as respectfully as he possibly could. If you have bitter feelings toward him leaving, fine, but you are lying to yourself if you say you would have felt better about him leaving if he had gone somewhere else, made his exit in some other way, or at some other time. A spurned lover is a spurned lover. You either make peace with it and move on, or you don't. But the fact of the matter is, we're all dating someone else now, so looking back is not really productive.
