Maybe he really did honestly feel that way at that point in time, but then, things changed: a really prestigious job is offered to him, bigger payday, etc. Maybe he was really grateful to just have a great, stable hc job at UD, and he was happy and content, and that was all he wanted at the time.
UD was his first hc job. He goes from being a relative unknown to a total star in only about 3 or 4 years, his first 2 years at UD were not really bigtime-star-quality. Years 3 to 6 set him apart. That sort of ascent to fame can be really tough to handle, and it is a lot to take in.
