I agree that charging $5 to park on the other side of the river is too much. If that was an enclosed building with heaters it could be justified. I'm sure they are trying to recover their costs of vehicles and gas but still...
You can walk at the same speed as the shuttle will deliver you. Depending upon the waiting time it might be faster to walk.
