I think it could be years before we have a real rival. VCU is probably the closest thing we have to one today. Let's be honest, no one that is any good really wants to play us. No matter what we think of ourselves, we are still Dayton from the A10. No fan base is going to be excited about getting tickets to the Dayton game.
Xavier has made the leap but it took them a long time to get there. Xavier gets to play the big boys, but it took 10 years of high level success to get that respect. They were there before the Big East. Being in the league has just cemented that.
It would be nice to have a team to hate every year. That is what rivalries are about. We don't hate VCU, we respect them. It just wouldn't be as much fun. X, we hate. UC, we hate. OSU, we hate. That would be fun.
