Timing Is Everything

BEVERLY HILLS (MI) -- The timing couldn’t be more impeccable. On Wednesday, Anthony Grant announced his new UD coaching staff. Anthony Solomon, Ricardo Greer, Darren Hertz and James Kane. On Saturday, the AAU spring evaluation period begins and AG and his staff will be fanning out across the country in search of fresh recruits.

Go get ‘em, guys!

Meanwhile, elsewhere in college hoops:

-- CBS Sports ranks the new coaching hires in college hoops and of course Archie comes out on top, but AG ain’t too far behind:

-- As of this writing there are 494 players transferring in men’s college basketball thus far:

-- Tying the two above facts together, The New York Times decries that “College Coaching Changes Are the Real Madness in March”:

-- MSU mentor Tom Izzo on the hiring of Archie at IU, according to Andy Katz at ESPN:

"I was personally sad to lose Tom Crean but I have always watched and respected the job Archie has done as an assistant and then the head coach at Dayton. This league has some of the best coaches in the country and it will be another great addition."

-- Long-form piece on the ’gentrification’ of men’s hoops that includes a profile of former Georgetown commit Tremont Waters. Newly named Flyer assistant coach (and former Georgetown recruiter) Anthony Solomon is no doubt attempting to persuade Waters to consider UD:

-- Coupla in-depth pieces on former Flyers attempting to fulfill their hoop dreams:

-- If you have ever wondered what a challenge between the Atlantic 10 and the American Athletic Conference would look like, A-10Talk.com has your answer:

-- Former Flyer David Bradds (father of Belmont star Evan) is going blind:

-- In a rare moment of rational thinking, the NCAA is considering starting the men’s college basketball season three days earlier:

-- We’ve all experienced “March Madness”; welcome to “March Sadness”:

-- Meet Nick Elam, a 34-year-old middle school principal from Dayton, Ohio (and Mensa member) with a radical idea on how to handle crunch time in basketball games: eliminate the game clock!

-- “The Hometown Coach” Mark Adams provides us food for thought with a list of the basketball budgets for every D-1 program:

Interesting to look at the budgets listed by Mark Adams. UD is 89th. I bet someone like Figgie could run a program comparing the final season rankings of each team to the budgets and then rank them by "return on the dollar" or some such value.

UD was 89th in budget, but more like 40th in performance. That's 49 points to the good. Or something like that...

I came up with the Same system as Nick Elam years ago. End at the 4 minute mark and add 10% to the leaders score. Then play untimed to the target score. I hope this sticks.
