With that title, I'm guessing they also hire a DoBO.

I don't think so just changing titles and some duties around.

I wouldn't exactly call Svoboda committed. Kostas and Cunningham meanwhile are locked in unless they want to go to a juco or lose a year of eligibility. So they are way more confirmed than Svobda is committed.

He was a verbal commit and hasn't verbally de-committed.

But also hasn't signed a LOI. I guess that can't happen until sometime in May, so it may be awhile before we know if he's coming unless he retracts his verbal commitment.

There has been essentially nothing on Kostas. We can speculate that he is staying because he doesn't want to sit again, but I guess I'm just waiting for him to say something...or the team to say something about him.

And at this point in the game - a verbal is essentially the same as a NLI. Since AM left we are letting guys out of NLI (as we should). So I see Pierce and Svoboda in similar buckets. They can still go to UD if they want...or they can go somewhere else if they want.

They can all still go to UD if they want. Or they can go somewhere else. Difference with Svoboda: he has no binding agreement (to be let out of), and good luck getting a hold of him.

Spring signing period started yesterday and runs through May 17th so he could signed yesterday if he wanted to.

When Griffin left, didn't he have a quote saying if Kostas continued to add strength he would be good next year? I know that's pretty weak, but with the rest of Griffin's quotes, I do not think he would have said that if Kostas was looking to leave.

Why all this concern about Kostas? Isn't he a bonafide student-athlete just like all the rest on the team? Why would he leave verses anyone else?
Say J Crosby left and ....... OH! I get it! Most of you aren't concerned if JC left. But Kostas no way no how do we want him to leave.
I guess it is one of those states that we would rather have the unknown than the known athlete.
PS I don't see either one of them or any other current player leave.

This is a long thread. Kind of doubt players are reading it. But they are probably reading any thread with their name in the subject line.

Svoboda. To me it depends on his current suitors. Is he being contacted and by whom. If he's not getting any P-5 offers then i still like our chances. Provided he's deemed a fit for AG's new system. Think the best part for him might just be the prospect of playing hoops at a good institution in the US. Foreigners by and large dont seem to be the glamor chasers and prima donnas that most homegrown kids are. Jmo.

William Thomas Comar
I went to IUs regular university website and did an employee search. A William Thomas Comar is employed in Athletics and has been assigned a university email address. I would take that as a confirmation Comar has left.
I also searched Ostrom. There were 3 listed. All 3 are students in the system and none enrolled in Bloomington. Doesn't look like Ostrom is employed by IU currently.
Also read the article on another thread that says a source said Ostrom was on campus. That might be true. It very well could be he was on campus to tour and check it out before he makes a decision to say or leave. It doesn't look like Ostrom is employed by IU yet and thus I would say he is still considering his options.

I have Comar on there as confirmed. I have Ostrom as well (a few different reports seem to confirm it), but I will be happy to remove his name if we find out the reports are inaccurate.

Tom is a good guy. Sorry to see him leave. He will do well at IU. I wish him the best.
My guess is the Wright is more loyal to Tom than to UD or even Archie. I think he built the relationship with Tom.

UD's web site
The web site was immediately updated by removal of Ostrom's name. To me that means that Kuwik, Walsh and Frank...still appearing on the site..."may" be on AG's staff. Yes? No?

I don't think that page means much. I think they are making updates as things become official. Kuwik may stay. He may not. They will leave his name there until that is all figured out.

I was told at the time it was a joke, but Archie begged, and the joke became reality. Then again, not sure who or what to believe at times anymore, so will keep what I hear from what I still believe to be a really good source to myself!

@DavidPJablonski: Dayton now has at least 2 scholarships open, probably 3, maybe 4. Svoboda told me he's still considering Dayton but hasn't heard from Dayton
Seems that if AG wanted to try to sign Svoboda, he would have at least reached out to him by now. I would guess it is rather unlikely Svoboda will sign with UD.

I've always wondered if a 20 year old foreign player was going to show up in Dayton Ohio in August and be cleared by the NCAA clearinghouse to be eligible to play. My guess is that CAG has that same question.

So Crosby has been confirmed for both retention and also departure. Still pretty hard to make sense of what kind of squad Dayton is going to field next year...

Josh and Kostas still haven't given public statements? Is that why they're nowhere to be found in the categories above?

Yeah - the current players are tough to confirm. Crosby had been quoted talking about next year...and left. The only thing Cunningham has said was a tweet showing he was upset about losing his 2nd head coach of his college career.
Nothing from Kostas.
Can't imagine either are excited about sitting another year, but that is just speculation at this point...

Don't sweat it, Clayton. As of 4/1, it may very well have been a joke. But, as with many jokes, there was apparently some degree of truth behind it, so that @ 10 days later, the joke was on all of us back here in Dayton.
Oh, well. Spilled milk. Move on.

In my opinion, Josh and Kostas are the most confirmed of retention because they have no other options that should be acceptible to them. Others like Crosby, despite what they say, can change their minds. If you take confirmed to mean essentially locked in, it's Kostas and Josh.

Glad to see Jordan Pierce confirming his commitment to UD. Welcome (officially) to Flyer Nation, Mr. Pierce!
Sorry to see John Crosby's decision to leave UD. For all of his issues on the court, he seemed to be a good teammate and representative of the University off the court. Best wishes to you, wherever you land.
To all those who are still on the fence or are otherwise unsure of the situation: they call us the Flyer Faithful for a reason. A quarter century ago, when the program was in the midst of a 3-year, 17-67 swoon, we still came out 11,000 strong to support our team. And we will support you now. That's what "family" does.

Can we just add Josh and Kostas to the list so we don't have to constantly hear this?

I believe, like everyone else, that they will be back. We NEED them back. And you can make a very logical argument as to why they will be. However, the goal here is to, as best we can, keep the list free of speculation.
The truth is - neither of them have said anything. Nobody has said anything about them. And if they don't want to play here - they have options.
They can go play DII or JUCO for a year and then look for somewhere else to play. They can go play in Europe (probably more of an option for Kostas).
We had a guy say "the core group is coming back" and then THAT player left. Let's be patient. It's all going to play out over the next few weeks/months.

Then why even bother listing the current players on the roster as confirmed retention? We've seen Crosby leave after "confirming" he will be back, so every one of those guys could up and leave.
I just think it makes more sense to assume all the current players on the roster, including Kostas and Cunningham, will all be back until they have asked for a release. I just don't see why Kostas and Cunningham are being treated differently, they are part of the "core group" from last year.

He's been with the team for a year. He's not an incoming recruit. That sounds like "core" to me. I find this list noble but not definitive. None of these guys owe us some binding quote or a DDN interview. They're simply on the team until they're not (a la Crosby). To pretend otherwise is its own form of speculation.

That's fair. I've said from the beginning that the current group is the hardest to confirm. They don't owe us any kind of comment. They can just keep showing up.
In my mind (which is a scary place) - this list may not list the full roster for a couple of months. Which is OK. The intent was to provide a place for people to get updates on who is staying/leaving and to get that news without weeding through pages of Ray Harper jokes and Archie bashing. Adding Josh/Kostas would suggest there was news of some kind to go with that.
Every person on the list should have been put on the list based on some kind of news. Some more accurate than others.

Puzzled
I don't understand why current players would consider disrupting their lives by transferring....because of a new coach of the caliber and personality of Grant...especially when opportunities for playing time have so improved.
Grant is not some unpredictable "unknown". Indeed, he has a well known record and NBA connections that Miller surely doesn't have. If the NBA is so important to players, both old and new, seems to me that AG gives them an improved shot.
Obviously, I don't understand the minds of teenage basketball players. But, what's not to like about AG?

I agree UACFlyer- makes me think if someone does leave the only logical reason would be following a heart to heart chat with Coach Grant? This is only explanation that makes me optimistic on some new notable player recruiting.

Dayton is officially announcing Anthony Grant's staff today. The coaches are Darren Hertz, Anthony Solomon, Ricardo Greer and James Kane. Per @DavidPJablonski

Maybe his system, his demands, players not liking the personality, etc. A bunch of things go into it and the real beauty is we are the least knowledgeable to assume what is right or wrong for a kid. It's "their" decision. I don't think there's a mom/dad on this site that would want an outsider to assume what is best for their child without even knowing that person.

I seem to recall several years ago people saying " who the hell is Archie Miller?"
People choose how they want to feel - i'm going to be positive and trust in the pedigrees of our new coaches.

Looks good to me. I think Solomon and Greer are going to be great recruiters. Minus the army experience, Kane's resume looks pretty similar to Kuwik's.

Not sure that's exactly what's being asked. Most of us, if not nearly all, don't know much about these coaches. What's their background like, do we think they are good hires, etc.

Yes, they appear to be good hires. There's tons of info about each on the 'net, if anyone chooses to do a search. Several links have been posted here and on other threads. Some of the message boards from the schools they're leaving are particularly revealing in a good way. They all appear to have good to great recruiting skills, but let's see how they do here. AG has the staff he wants, now it's time to get busy.

Kane and Solomon are big time recruiters. They say 80% of being successful is getting talent. We will get very good talent. IMO, the level of recruiting has just gone up for UD.

There are numerous examples of parents, especially fathers trying to live their lives over through their kids, who give their kids bad advice. Outsiders often can be far more objective and realistic than parents. As I recall, UD has first hand experience of a dad controlling the decisions of his son as a Flyer.

LOL. You gave one example which wasn't a real hard one considering you got THAT father with THAT recruit from day 1 with all the warnings that came with it. That wasn't rocket science as you had a HC in Gregory that caved into the baggage that comes with getting a 5 star recruit many times. Care to share all the "numerous" ones while you're at it?
Also, without anyone knowing you or your kid how would you like a message board to be fixated on you/your kid and telling you what your kid should do regarding school, who he should date, what he should wear, what job to get, etc...Something tells me to take that bet in Vegas and put my mortgage on it that you would tell those same people to STFU and worry about themselves and their own family..

As of 3 pm on Friday 4/21, roster page shows the following scholarship players for 2017-18:
Josh, Darrell, Sam, Trey, Xeyrius, Ryan, Kostas
AG has verbal confirmation the following recruits are honoring their commitments to play for UD:
Jordan P and Jordan D
That leaves 4 scholarships open that the coaches are working to fill.

I understand. But when he notified AG he wasn't returning, he was removed. Point being, there are those wondering if some like Kostas are returning. As of today it appears they are because they are still on the website roster. If they had notified AG otherwise, they would have been removed. It's good to see at this point no one else appears to be leaving. If we ended up with one transfer and two decommitments, I'd say we weathered the coaching change about as well as could be expected. Still need to sign 2 PGs, but otherwise I would be happy how the turnover played out. TBD.

My daughter's boyfriend is a Milwaukee Bucks season ticket holder. My daughter says he has a man crush on Giannis. They went to the playoff game Saturday (lost to Raptors). I asked them to ask Giannis if Kostas was staying. His comment was, they are a loyal family - he will stay. I started thinking, it would be really hard for Kostas to play somewhere in the shadow of his brother - Wisc or Marquette. UD is a good place for him.

Wait...that last one might have been a movie...either way I hope you're happy.

If someone wearing an unbuttoned trench coat with the family jewels flapping in the breeze spray paints Cunningham???? on your house and cars tonight, it was not me.

The one name I really want to see on the "confirmed list" is Cunningham! Why this has not occurred is baffling and scary at the same time??? With him in the fold and the acquisition of some PG's we will be OK the upcoming season. Without him, rebounding becomes a major problem.

"His" comment.
"His" = Giannis?
Or "His" = daughter's boyfriend?
Big difference there.

Why are you worried about Cunningham? He has played 2 years and sat 1 already. He only has two years left. Only way he can transfer and play immediately is if he graduates which would be a major accomplishment for a guy who has only been in school for three years and transferred once. If he transfers he has to sit another year before playing again which I can't imagine he wants to do that. The other option is to turn pro and go to overseas but its hard to see a foreign team picking up a guy who could barely jump at the end of the season to fill one of their 2 or 3 US players slots.
Just relax he'll be playing for UD next year.

He is the one guy that has been completely silent. Doesn't mean it's bad. As others have pointed out - having transferred once makes it really hard to do it again (he would end up losing a year of eligibility).
Don't lose any sleep over it.

If you are worried about Josh, just check his twitter every day.

As long as it still has "University of Dayton #0" in the bio, he's confirmed. Seriously, it seems one of the first things "kids" do is update their twitter info.
Earlier in the month, I periodically checked Jordan Pierce's account and it never changed, so I was 99.9% confident he was keeping his commitment.

Joshua is just a student like everyone else enrolled there. Why doesn't some Daytonian just simply ASK him???

Josh may leave but it won't be this year. After next, "free agency" looms. But until he graduates, there should be zero worries.

Good theory - but false. Nahziah Carter left "#UD Commit" on his twitter for weeks. That would have made him confirmed...until he wasn't.

Good question FlyingArrow. Now we know.
I originally thought your question was silly, because of course "his" meant Giannis.
Why would we care what a Buck's season ticket holder thought of our chances of keeping Kostas?
