Rhody is definitely getting hot at the right time. And Russell, Dowtin, and Langevine are all among the top echelon of players in the league, so VCU will need to be at their grabbing, shoving, bumping best to keep all 3 of those studs in check.

Not relevant but funny.... I live in Pittsburgh, a program who thinks they are always much better than they are... after they beat FSU to go 2-2 in the ACC started chanting "WE WANT DUKE, WE WANT DUKE!" They have proceeded to lose 13 straight games and will probably lose out.

So Rhody just won back to back road games in OT. All while basically only playing seven. Interesting.

How could Fats score 40? He should’ve been too tired. He played over 40 minutes on Friday in Dayton and then over 40 minutes Tuesday. Plus the travel.

Ok. Assume your point is depth is a big advantage, correct? So put your money where your mouth is? What % chance do you give the Flyers to win three games in three days playing only seven?

I don’t know the odds of winning. I know it will be easier for VCU than UD. VCU used their depth to win two close games against UD. But, anything can happen. Teams can get hot or cold at the right time.
So many like to point out the exception to the rule. Occasionally a team without depth wins and therefore it means it should be possible much more often. It is possible to win the lottery but the odds are against you.
Coaches know that depth is a very important factor in winning tournaments. That is one reason they want the double bye. One less game to play.

VCU used their depth to win two close games against UD? Just curious, but what things did you see on the floor suggest they used their depth to win those two close games? Or are people just assuming that BECAUSE VCU goes 11 deep, then it MUST have been a factor?
In the game at UD Arena, Dayton made a furious comeback and certainly appeared to be the fresher team in the second half and down the stretch.
I'm not saying depth isn't a factor, it may very well be. But what "evidence" do we have that it actually IS a factor? Just because they play 11 and we play 7 doesn't necessarily make it a contributing factor.

There’s a huge difference between playing 7 and only having 7 to play.
I guess we’ll see what coach thinks next year when he should have close to a full roster at his disposal. I’ll bet Crutcher’s and other’s defense and offensive rebounding as well as the team’s pressure and tempo will become suddenly much ‘improved’.

DU loses to St. L and cements our spot in at least 3rd. Williams scored 40 going 15/20, 7/9 from 3 and lost. Isabell poured in 39 for StL. They went to the line 39 times. They missed17, and a bunch more opportunities in 1&1s but still blew Dukes out in the second half.

Yeah, I knew someone would bring up my "reliable source post". The source that provided this information is a good friend of the Duquesne AD. My apologies for posting inaccurate information.

Sorry. I was kind of excited when I saw that, not wishing harm or injury on ANY player (except maybe a few _avier guys from the past), as he is kind of a load and does a bunch for DU. I think he may have played the entire game against us at the Arena.
Knowing we had at least one more game with them, and a decent chance at another, I was excited about the prospects of facing DU without him. When I saw him on the floor last night, my first thought was your post and "who was spewing that sh!t on the board? I've got to go find that post."

Admit it...the source was swampy, wasn't it. C'mon, we all know it's true...who else could be so confidently wrong???

Obviously, these announcers on the SLU/ SBU game have never heard of Obi Toppin. They keep saying Lofton/Sincere Carry/Nick Honor are the favorites for A10 ROY.

Just got back from the Providence/Butler game. One of our "good" wins didn't look so good today. PC won by 13 but don't be fooled by the score. It was a lot closer to a 25 point game than a 13 point game. Butler looked like a team that shouldn't make the CBI.
Edit: Butler finishes as the #10 seed in the BE tourney. For those who might not know there are 10 teams in the BE.

So one of our best wins was over the last place team in the Big East. This is why I highly doubt that Dayton is actually in contention for an at-large bid (although I would merrily and enthusiastically welcome one, of course).
Time to win the A 10 tournament! Just 3 games, we can do this...

I agree that our chances of an At Large bid are nil-to-none, but don’t make Butler out to be total dogmeat. As of this morning, they had the 4th best NET in the BE, and even after today’s action, they’re still probably no worse than 6th. No, it’s not like we beat Virginia or Auburn, and we’ve enough “moral victories” in one season to last a decade. But in this year’s BE, there’s very little difference between #3 and #10. Butler just happened to draw the short straw in that pecking order.

Then, so does Georgetown, so does Providence, so does Seton Hall, so does St. John’s...
And Butler is down to 5th today, at 62, 1 spot below Seton Hall at 61 and 4 spots ahead of St. John’s at 66. And guess who’s at 65! Our own Dayton Flyers.
And, as we all know, so does Eggsavier, who’s at 71 in the NET.

This just goes to show that NET is just as flawed as RPI.

Yes, I do not use the NET or the RPI. I use the FlyerGuyer Common Sense Rating System. The committee should really look into it!

I can’t believe it, but I think they are Dancing if they win at least one game in the Big 10 tournament. They are passing my Eye Test (which is the most important test in the world). They look like a different team than they did a month ago. Could this be like vintage Archie, circa 2014?
Has a team ever lost 12 of 13 at any point in the season and received an at-large? (I’m going with “no” on that one).

Apart from automatic qualifiers, I don’t believe any at-large selection has ever been less than four games over .500. If that’s the threshold — and who knows what really matters to the Selection Committee — they’d have to win two in the Big 10 tourney to get there. But, setting new precedents seems to be an NCAA habit.

You could be right, they might need to win at least two . . . and I wouldn’t bet against them at this point.

Assuming they win today (and they were up ten in the second half), I think two wins in the B10 tourney gets them in. Based on brackets/seeding, one of those wins would be a very high quality win against a top 4 seed in the quarters.
Bizarre profile, for sure.

Wofford
Interesting post-game write-up about Fletcher Magee - reminiscent of Brian Roberts:
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-bas...meId=401121616
Though the writer seems to think Furman won tonight - not!
"Wofford: Faces Furman Monday night. The Terriers have beaten the Paladins twice this season."
UNC Greensboro 66, Furman 62 (probably the same voter who had Furman in the top 25 all season).

NKU makes a 3 almost at the buzzer to win by 1 last night over Oakland in a HLT semifinal.
I thought that Oakland should have played for the tie and OT at worst and not given up a fairly clean 3.
Nice job by NKU though making the game-winning shot.
March Madness.

Good luck to both men's and women's WSU teams today. If you live in the Dayton area you know that school could use some positive attention. Two solid, top shelf coaches as well.

Providence putting the smack down on Butler again four days after the last snack down. I'm convinced if we played Butler 10 times this year we would beat them 10 times, they are terrible. LaVall Jordan may be on a short leash.

Average at best. They are going to finish 16-16 (and 9th out of 10 in the Big East). Yet still one of our best wins this year.

In PAC12 first round game action today Colorado defeated California 56-51 as McKinley Wright led the Buffaloes with 18 pts, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. I know this is not a Flyer OOC opponent and we are ecstatic to have Jalen Crutcher at PG but McKinley was going to be a Flyer until AM went to Indiana. I still wish him the best as long as we do not play against them.

These early-round conference tournament games provide an opportunity to see some really bad basketball. Oklahoma looked awful in losing to 12th seed West Virginia.

Texas finished 16-15 overall and 8-10 in the BIG 12 conference. Smart's contract is guaranteed through 2022-23, so replacing him would be a costly option. Kerwin Roach II has missed the last five games for a team violation but is returning for the BIG 12 conference tournament.
Jaxson Hayes, a 6'11" Freshman from Cincinnati Moeller may be going to the NBA draft. He is averaging 10.3 pts., 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks. Obi is averaging 14.4 pts., 5.6 rebounds, 0.8 blocks but is shooting 50% from three point range! I hope he stays at least one more year!

Right now Hayes is projected as a first round pick, and Obi not a pick. Of course things can change the way Obi has improved. Hayes has put up those numbers against some tough opponents, so not comparable to Obi's stats. Hayes, two inches taller, is a darn good defender and has blocked about three time the shots of Obi.

Still a world of difference between the two players based on the height and, more so, just the length of Hayes, the ability to both block and alter shots, and the competition. I'm guessing pretty strongly there are alot more BIGS Hayes has gone against..

Furious comeback by IU falls just short. It seems like Archie’s guys play their best only when they are desperate with their backs against the wall. They looked like a different team in the final 8 minutes (down by 20 with 8 minutes to go) than in the first 32 minutes.
You have to think that their resume is too inconsistent for an at-large bid now. Tough year for the Miller Bros.

Indiana will be one of the most interesting cases/resumes in a long time. They’ll be like 6-10 in Q1 games. That alone might be strong enough, considering the strength/quality of those 6 wins. Vs the “how many losses can you really absorb?”
I’d say it’s 50/50. Right now, I would take their resume and eye test over NCState. Clemson too.

Agree, at times IU absolutely looks like an NCAA Tournament team, and the 6 Quad 1 wins are impressive. The inconsistency is what might leave them on the outside looking in, though. All they probably had to do was win this game (a loss to MSU in the next round could be excused because they already beat MSU twice, hard to beat that caliber of team 3 times), but now it’s nailbiting time...

I would thoroughly enjoy "stealing" the last bid on Sunday, icing on the cake if it's getting taken away from someone like TCU, Texas, NC State, Indiana or dare I say _avier.

Look at it this way. If IU is in the First Four Out, then it’s likely they’ll be a 1 or 2 Seed in the NIT. And if it’s true that Wright State will be an 8 Seed in the NIT, then we might get a Gem City Jam...in Bloomington, Indiana...with the former Flyers coach facing the Raiders.
