TBT Roster
With the addition of Tillman I tried to write out a starting lineup today and honestly I struggled a bit. This team is loaded. Who would ya'll trot out to start the game? Here's my best effort:
Kyle
Trey
Oliver
Pollard
Tillman
Really struggled with Oliver vs Pierre vs Mikesell. Lowery is more of a "true pg" than KD, but I went with defense and toughness over finesse. Same reasoning for Trey over Darrell. DD could also play the point of course. This team is way more talented than last year.

I'd swap Pierre for Pollard and Darrell for Trey.

Didn't I read "I doubt Landers or Mikesell see much playing time" Oh wait, that was a year ago on this board talking about the upcoming season!
Nice depth, would love it if the team was all Flyers as we win it all, but Tillman is a nice addition.

Love adding Tillman. That guy always killed us. Not many teams in TBT have a legit center on their roster - so a guy like Tillman should do really well and he compliments the rest of the team.
These guys will be a lot of fun to watch.

We need to add another PG. Lowery is the only true PG and not sure I'd start him. Would have loved to see Scoochie or Brian Roberts play.
My starting 5:
D. Davis
K. Davis
Oliver
Pierre
Tillman
Landers first off bench

I think people are forgetting about Ryan McMahon. 6'0 guy that shot 43% from 3 this year for Louisville and had a near 2:1 assist to TO ratio. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts. Or Lowery. KD is an absolute killer and bringing KD and Trey with their energy off the bench would be pretty amazing.
Rob has been training others and he looks to be in great shape. Didn't we start Dillard last year at PG? I think Lowery/McMahon are an upgrade over Dillard. Dillard looked a little sluggish last year (didn't appear to be in basketball shape).
I wouldn't be surprised if we went with:
Kyle Davis/McMahon/Lowery
Darrell Davis
Pierre
Oliver
Tillman
Bench would be pretty strong if we brought Trey, Mikesell, Pollard, and 2 of of the 3 PG options.
That's a lot of beef on the bench with Trey and Pollard.
I think Pierre, Oliver, DD and Tillman are locks starting.

The Pierre, Oliver and Tillman frontline is very very solid. Then having the two young guys Mikesell and Landers fresh off the #3 team in the country coming off the bench. I love our frontline players. We need one more stellar guard in my opinion to match the quality of frontline players. Seeing highlights of Pierre's play overseas, I think people are going to be surprised how much more active and strong he is now. He or Tillman will be our best players on Red Scare. Honestly, don't see Pollard getting a ton of minutes.

I know he won't do it as it would obviously be an incredibly stupid risk to take, but if he wanted, could Obi play in TBT? What are the limitations?

Pollard played great last year. I was surprised how good he still was. It was really fun watching KD, Pollard, and Oliver. They really seemed to enjoy it. The game against OSU alumni was as intense a game as I have seen.

Agreed. Last year was a lot of fun. Pollard was better than I was expecting but who knows what another year will bring. Pollard has always been a little heavy. Oliver was fantastic last year but we kind of lacked a go to scorer when we needed a bucket.
I think this squad is better but the TBT competition will be better than ever. 44+ teams applied and only 24 are allowed to compete. Top players from the teams that are getting cut are joining other squads. We have a ton of 6'6 and 6'7 guys but do feel like we need a little more help at guard.

July 4-14 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus. Made for TV only. No fans. 24 competing teams to be announced on June 16th.

So what's the rest of the story? Montgomery County with less COVID cases and deaths than Franklin. Why not the arena?

I thought originally the arena might be an option especially since covid testing is already on site. In retrospect, however, probably not. Most college administrators (like those higher than Neil) are way way too woke. They bend over quickly in even a zephyr. Their thinking is: If students cannot be on campus and use the athletic facilities. how can they allow outside athletes to use those same facilities? I have absolutely no inside info, but my guess is that the TBT stayed away from campus facilities for this reason.

It would be cool to see the arena on TV for a week when there are no other sports on, but if there's no fans it wouldn't really be an advantage for the team.
Do we know for sure that we are one of those 24 teams? How is that decided?

My guess is having all teams in one location requires more hotel accommodations than are available near the Arena. There are a lot more options right by Nationwide when it comes to hotels and restaurants. The Arena is a great option for a handful of teams, but probably not all of them.

You may be right on some items, but nobody - teams or staff - will be eating at restaurants. Food will be delivered. They have very extensive guidelines for isolating teams.

Sure, I don't know how the catering will work but I assumed that would provide more delivery options.

From DDN article https://www.daytondailynews.com/spor...M6HiAwBOGTFo8U
“Health and safety has been driving every decision we’ve made since COVID-19 became an issue,” said TBT founder and CEO Jon Mugar in a statement. “Our assessment came down to what location allowed us the safest environment in which to pull off our quarantined environment and what location was the most central for our teams. In Columbus, we have an arena, hotel and practice courts all within a three-block radius. It’s heartbreaking not to be able to play in Dayton this year, especially since we were on pace to shatter our championship game attendance records. Hopefully Dayton fans will embrace us in 2021.”
Scott DeBolt, senior associate athletics director and executive director of UD Arena, said Dayton looks forward to hosting the finals of the TBT next year.“The change in the tournament’s date and format,” DeBolt said, “along with quarantine and testing protocols, made it more practical for the TBT to hold this year’s event in a public facility rather than on a college campus in 2020.”

Still gonna be great to see Flyers playing basketball again. I watched on TV last year and it was great. I’m guessing they will get huge tv ratings and I’m confident the Flyer Faithful will show up in the ratings.

I just saw this and I don’t think it’s posted. The team needs a little help with expenses. They are about half way funded...so help put them over the top if you can. Even a $10-20 donation will make it happen. Thanks.

Is there any prohibition against selling autographs or merchandise? I bet that would put donations waaaaaaay over the top. Again I don’t know, just brainstorming.

#8 Red Scare plays the winner of BigX and Jackson TN Underdogs.
DMO joined the reveal show. Not likely to see Obi, but he worked to get Pierre and is working on Scoochie. Also mentioned trying to get CW and CJ to join.

Scoochie? Chris Johnson? Chris Wright? Any of those 3 would be awesome. Especially schoochie, we could use a true point guard.

Wednesday July 8th.
Haven't seen a game time, but there are only 2 games that day and Red Scare is listed as the first game.

i’m thinking we will see something like a seven and 9:40 television schedule. They probably have to sanitize the crap out of everything after the first game is over, so it might take some time. here’s hoping we are in the 7 o’clock game!

Scoochie has teased on twitter with likes and retweets when people ask if he's playing TBT, could all be in fun but he would really help the roster. I would probably watch any bball right now, but genuinely excited to watch this group and hope they make a run.

Now that we know they are in, let’s finish their $4000 expenses off. Around $1400 left to put them over the top. It looks like most donations are $50, but even a $10-20 donation will make it happen and you can make your donation anonymously.
Obviously if you and your family have taken a hit due to Covid...this is not the year to make a donation. But otherwise, do what you can to help the guys. Thanks.

Getting Scoochie to run the team at PG would give them a chance to compete for the title. Really tough match-up if they win their first game.
I don't know if anyone has said this, but Joey Gruden needs to ask Obi to be on the bench as an assistant coach. Would be great to see him present to give the team a mental boost.

Yea, you see I know of this place called the University of Dayton (also called Dayton University to some recruits). Hook them up now. We do not need any excuses as to why you can not!

Mistake? Can anybody confirm?

Even though I love the idea and Obi's enthusiasm, I am pretty sure Obi's agent would kick his butt if he played in such an event for the pocket change it offers him compared to the potential earnings he has come draft day.

No chance on Obi. He may "coach" but I doubt we will see him at TBT. On the bracket reveal they jokingly asked DO about Obi and he said something along the lines of Obi has something a little bigger to prepare for and he would not let Obi on the court.

It would be pretty risky, but so would playing in the NCAA tournament. No one seemed to bat an eye about that.
Even if he played limited minutes we would immediately become the favorites to win the whole thing. Although I still think a true PG would better complete the squad.
Medford your comment made me gasp. How can you not be excited about this? Other than golf this is literally the only sports on TV. Millions of people will be watching a very talented team filled with Flyer legends compete for a championship. I'm beyond excited.

I have 11U baseball, tee ball, the swimming pool, and the golf course (not to mention the yard). I have more than enough to keep me occupied. That is not to say that I have something against it, its just not high priority. If UD is on TV and I happen to catch it, no doubt I'll stay on that channel as long as I can, but TV doesn't take a high priority during Summer time, watch what I watch when I can. But that's just me; they have ties to UD, so I hope they win. Had they made the finals and they were @ UD and the price was reasonable, I may have attended if it fit into my schedule.

To each his own. I loved watching it on tv last year and looking forward to it even more this year. But this might get someone excited. Maybe you’d like to be on the bench as part of the team.

Can I coach too?
Kyle Davis will never see the bench. You can rest when your old Kyle, get back out there and do what you do best.

The Flyer Faithful is awesome. A lot of $20-25 donations have come in the last two days to put Team Red Scare within a couple hundred dollars of their initial $4,000 expense goal. The goal was raised to $5,000. Then someone stepped up with an anonymous $1,500 donation to put them over that at $5,135. I do not know if this donation was for the team-experience package. But now the guys can get a couple steak dinners instead of burgers and fries some nights.

Most recent tweet from the Red Scare team page doesn't have Pollard or Pierre.
Pierre still listed on the roster on the TBT website, but would be really unfortunate if these guys aren't on the team.

Yikes. Who is going to spell Tillman? Hope he's ready for a ton of minutes and can stay out of foul trouble. We are far less formidable than we were a week ago.

Due to unfortunate circumstances Kendall Pollard and Dyshawn Pierre will not be playing in this year’s TBT. We will have two players replacing them. Announcement coming soon

Perhaps a chance to further heal old wounds. Takes some courage to re-associate with the brand.

When I was in college I was in Several student organizations and was fortunate to get this one great advisor. She would always talk about student in college was the time for them to have some failures. She termed it a student’s right to fail. A time to figure out life and who you wanted to be.
It sounds like Mr Robinson has figured all that out. Glad to see it. He was family once and being part of TBT could bring it all full circle. Welcome back home.

Excited to add a 6'9 and 7'0 this close to the TBT. Very excited for Jalen. We all need to welcome him back with open arms. Just disappointed for him, he would of loved to get back in front of the fans at UD Arena.

As UDtradition said, he's owned up to his mistake, paid his dues. Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to learn and grow from their mistakes. Frankly, I'm impressed that he's willing to put himself out there for this.

These two clowns stole from their dorm mates......their own fellow students. I wish them no ill will and am glad he at least is remorseful for his actions, but have zero interest in seeing him in any kind of Dayton uniform. I'd rather have Trent Meacham back over this guy.
I was really looking forward to this tournament, but doubt I watch now. I simply can't root for him. It may be an unpopular opinion here, but just how I feel. I think it's a poor decision.

Since this all went down, I honestly felt that Scott and Robinson were just poison together and if they both went their separate ways in college, it would've worked out for them. I think about the dynamics of having a best friend that you spent HS with getting into trouble together and then if you follow each other to the next stage in life, you're bound to fall back into old habits together. No, it's not an excuse, but I could see how they fed off each other in a negative way and it was just a bad decision on his, Scott's and Archie's part to bring in the package of the two of them.
Personally, I'm glad he's on the team because maybe it's a healing process for this forum that has never forgiven either of them and we can refer to them by their names rather than "The two clowns" or whatever nickname we've seen given to them since they got kicked out.

If you aren't going to watch because of his addition, that's certainly your choice. However, I feel sorry for you for not being able to put this behind you over 5 years later. I assume he must have stolen from you personally.

Right. I mean what is so important that is going to air on ESPN prior to the NBA and MLB tipping off later in the month at seven and 9 PM? The only thing I can think of is in order to stay in the bubble, they want the players to be around as few people as possible and some interesting things have been going on here in Columbus at night lately? Other than that, I’ve got nothing.

This should be a lot of fun. Because of the restrictive nature of the tournament regarding Covid-19, I hope everyone is smart and stays home when they are not practicing. With the restriction that if one person shows up as positive, the team is history, there is no room for going out with friends to celebrate anything. This stuff spreads so easily, it doesn't take much it get it. Here in Arizona, we have become a hot spot because the minute they reopened bars they were packed. As a result, they have all been shut down again. Stay healthy!

I realize Tillman has a legit reason to back out so this isn't directed at him. But this TBT thing is so much a crapshoot due to what seems too many players entering just in case they don't have anything better to do. There's too many players pulling out at the last minute for it to be abnormal unforeseen circumstances.

I read where Justin Tillman’s name is back on the Red Scare roster. Doesn’t mean he’s gonna play but he is available and their first game isn’t until the 8th.
Check that: Jablonski says he’s not playing even tho he is still on the roster:

Red Scare fans are locked in at $214 each if the ex Flyers go all the way. I'm surprised how few fans officially signed up. But thanks for not diluting the pot. I could really use $214. About time I got rewarded for being a fanatic.
Something like this should be riding on every game all season long. Food for thought...

First game just finished - Big X over D2. Red Scare will play Big X on Wednesday at 2. Former Flyer Edwin Young was one of the refs for this first game.
The level of play was up and down. Low post muscle for Big X was the difference. Not surprisingly given the long weeks off, many of the guys were sucking air during the game.

ESPN said that 4 teams had to drop out due to one or more players/coaches/people associated with the team, testing positive for covid, so 4 replacement teams were brought in.

He's not on the updated roster page, not good. Can McMahon run the point? Bummer to lose the only true point guard on the squad.

He was a monster in the first game. D2 was dominating most of the game until Ward just decided to take over.

Seems a bit optimistic - given the roster turnover.
