A coach can't announce a recruit till they sign. A game announcement is not a big deal. Could be Weaver, but he is already here, "not on the way".

the last time Coach Hertz tweeted
"it's a great day to be a Flyer!",
we signed Mali, Kaleb Washington
and DaRon Holmes....
seems like, this should be a player,
we will see...

Right or wrong I put a bit more credence on your posts. Not that you verified anything on this specific announcement.
So, asking more generally has there been a "sneak preview" from a member of the staff before now? Like everyone, I want as many announcement level signings as possible.
I'm all in on the tease but we haven't seen it before from this staff.

lhsgolf19 apparently knows the news and I respect him for not violating someones trust in him. I hope it is a 4 star or a 5 star recruit that the coaching staff has been hiding and is going to surprise everybody with a commitment. Whatever it is we will find out soon enough!

The guard, TyTy Washington, committed to Creighton today. But Efton would be HUGE.

Don't tease us LHSGolf
LHS is teasing us all with his inside sources and knowledge of pending commits. He must have naked pictures of someone to get all the skinny that he constantly gets.

Efton did respond to a tweet last week that referenced DaRon targeting him which I thought was quite interesting. He doesn't tweet much (two or three times a month) and, at the time, I wondered why he chose this tweet for a response.

“Jaden scored 51 points off 17 three-pointers,” coach Sovern told me via email. “The opposition sat in a zone and he was hot early on. Basically, he did all of that damage through 3 quarters. I gave him one possession in the 4th quarter to earn the State record and he went and got it.”

The kid is a pure shooter and his release is the same every time. If you have a chance watch his you tube videos! If we got him it would be a way to get back at the Illini for stealing Trent Meacham away from us and leaving us with no point guard!

Commitment to do list.
1. Get paperwork, sign it, return it.
2. Overnight Flyer gear..AND IF YOU cOMMIT ON THE WEEKEND, that’s a Tuesday delivery.
3. Produce video which you need the Flyer gear for.
Net out, best case Tuesday announcement and that can slide with video production.

The two”three star” recruits, Malachi and Moustafa, have high ceilings that CAG got in on early. All four are extremely talented and seem to compliment each other. Playing time will be earned on this team! The only thing I see missing is a knock down shooting guard. Maybe the coaches see someone already on the team that can take this role in the years to come?

That would seem like an odd pick up. I would think a SG would round out the class nicely.

I'd be pretty surprised if we signed another big. I think we have a pretty good idea what we're getting with Weaver, but who knows how the three freshman guards will pan out. I hope Cohill comes back better than ever but that has to be considered an unknown as well. Guard depth should be a priority now.

Baker is super skinny and appears to play little defense, but he has long arms and can shoot the three, and runs the floor well. Average leaper. He would be somewhat of a project at this point. Give him 30 pounds, the weight room and some good coaching and he may turn out darn good.

I scrolled down this list, finally found Xavier at #66, sandwiched between Rutgers and Arkansas. Further down I found Indiana at #74, one spot ahead of Drake. Richmond at #76 is the next highest A-10 school in a tie with Huggy Bear and 12 others; GW rounds out the top 100 in a nine way tie at #92.

Right! Pretty sure we had a very light roster with a handful of dudes 6'6 or under at one point, right? Pretty sure it wasn't that long ago, too...

Tyrone Baker breaks down his final five; announces decision date
The 6-foot-10, 190-pound big man discussed his thoughts on each program who made the cut:
Dayton: "The fact that Obi Toppin went top ten in this year's NBA draft stands out to me for sure. Coach (Darren) Hertz and Coach (Anthony) Grant have been recruiting me. I did a couple of zooms with their staff and their style of play fits how I play from a screen & roll or screen & pop perspective. They play fast, which fits everything I can do on the court."

Possibly keep an eye on this one... Tyrone Baker announcing either January 17th or 18th
The 6'10" Lanky, Athletic Big Man is down to UD, UGA, VA Tech, UCF and WKU.
Him & UDMBB followed each other on IG recently... He also shared and put UD's IG New Year's Post in His IG Story early this morning.
Having a big year this year at Hightower HS in Texas alongside 2022 5-Star PG Bryce Griggs.
Need another big now that Chase is gone... would be a really good pick up. Would definitely be a "5" in our offense at the next level, I believe.

We had 13 on scholarship before Chase left. We now have two schollies for 2021 assuming we lose Crutcher, Chatman, Watson, and Jordy. With Chase leaving we will lose 5 and we have added 3 for 2021.

Even if the seniors don't leave I believe we pick up those scholarships.

Part of me doesn’t even want to respond to your nonsense, but I can’t ignore your special brand of stupidity. We have played 6 games and start 4 seniors. Zimi is a Freshman that will get bigger, stronger, and better with a little patience. Why do you feel the need to single out and denigrate Zimi and our freshmen class based on a very small sample size?
It’s been said many times before, but go kick your dog.

I think that Maddog's post was hysterical and a tactful way of giving Mr. Zimi a wakeup call.

Devin Oliver couldnt convert a layup his frosh year. Trey Landers played about 55 total minutes his frosh season.
Two guys that eventually represented the posture and soul of the program. You cant write anybody off after four games any more than you can hand Mustapha Amzil next superstar status after one game.

Yeah, that’s right, I’m sure “Mr. Zimi” listens to anonymous keyboard warriors on UD Pride for wake up calls.

Not really very tactful. And I’m sure Zimi knows he has work to do. I hope he does it here, and becomes a success story a la DMO and Trey. As the history of our program has shown, you need depth, and Zimi has a chance to provide it. I hope he seizes that opportunity.

I would imagine the coaches and experienced players have told new players about certain posters on this site. Ignore them because they are only here to cause problems. I will never understand the thought process of someone that their enjoy in life is to try to cause problems. It just makes you wonder what happened in their life to make them this way.

I didn’t mean to kick over the hornets nest. My comment was more about every team has at least one transfer out any more.
It’s also odd how unbalanced our team will be next year. There will be no less than NINE Freshmen (Sissoko, Zimi, RJ, Brea, Frazier, Amzil, Holmes, Washington, and Malachi). According to LHSGolf, we may get Baker. That’s 10! Very UK’ish.
In different and perhaps even more stark terms with Chase leaving, next year’s team has TWO upperclassmen: Weaver (who has played in one game) and Cohill (coming off a serious knee injury). Perhaps a couple of the current seniors sticks around?
There is playing time to be had but, honestly, if a player(s) see(s) several players playing minutes ahead of them AND said players are the same grade, it’s a fair discussion point that someone will probably decide to transfer out.
Handicapping who that might is not productive at this point.

And I’m still waiting for Jehry Mayos, Ralph Hill, John Crosby, Sam Miller, Jordan Davis, and a host of others to turn into Devin Oliver. Sometimes you are better to cut your losses. Sure the sample size seems small but it’s much more than 6 games- he could work out through the canceled games. He had much of last year to practice with the team. He’s been here all of this season and it sure looks like he’s far more likely to be Stephen Thomas than DO.

Not exactly, seeing as how Zimi, Sissoko, RJ, Brea and Frazier will be sophomores — not frosh — next year.

They all get an extra year of eligibility so, in essence, they are redshirt Freshmen.

nine freshmen is quite a bit, BUT
(and I have a big but),
with the new rules I figured anything
is possible...)

We are having problems this year finding 6 or 7 guys who are able to play, and now we are worried about having too many players in one class next year? Get real.

This is the first time I have witnessed Zimi getting minutes this year, as I have not seen every minute of every game. He has more size and strength than I expected. Last game, I felt like we were missing those in-between guys who could guard a big or a smaller player. I felt like his minutes helped us plug those holes.
Even though we are now in conference play, remember our new guys are on their 6th(?) game with very little practice time so far. Many of them have been injured and missing more time on top of that.
A lot of these guys seem to be coming around. I feel like the whole team is just getting familiar with how their games mesh. We are a long way from a finished product this season.

Fudd, this is the first time any of us have seen Zimi get any appreciable minutes this season, as yesterday’s game more than doubled his PT for the year. And, based on those 20 meager minutes he had logged coming into yesterday’s game, he appeared to be only slightly less raw than Mou. I probably wasn’t the only Flyer fan who was a bit nervous about his presence earlier in yesterday’s game, but was pleasantly surprised by his contributions by game’s end.
I don’t think he’ll log 25 minutes/game for us the rest of this season, but if he can give us 12-15 minutes/game that are as positive (or better) than yesterday’s showing, then between his contributions and Mus’s, I’ll say that our frontcourt depth problem is not a problem any longer.

I really hope you're right, but my confidence level isn't there yet. What will convince me that we are finally OK on the front line is a demonstrated ability to reliably and consistently get the ball in the basket from the low block area.
Unfortunately, at the present, the most consistent result is a miss or turnover.
While Obi was a once in a lifetime gift we have had inside players who, while not at Obi's level, were pretty solid inside. That's what I think is needed to go with a guard like Crutcher.

He looked lost against Eastern Illinois on the offensive end. He looked confident out there compared to his prior minutes

Kyle Davis is playing in Argentina but maybe somehow he could do some recruiting for his Alma Mater since he went to Morgan Park as well!

Rivals updated their Top 150 this week
Holmes stays at #36 (#9 PF)
Washington drops 9 spots to #99 (#25 SF)
Smith jumps 19 spots to #131 (#28 PG)
3 recruits in the top 131... pretty darn good!

Really sucks that DaRon’s Compass Prep team had their game with Montverde cancelled due to COVID on their squad. The game was going to be televised and one would think that Holmes would have been highly motivated facing his former teammates.

I understand there was the potential to play this game but neither school could muster any interest from a national broadcast company (NBCSports, CBSSports, Spectrum, FoxSports, ESPN, the BBC, CNN, MSNBC, Ad nauseam) to put the game on the air.
There was more interest in Notra Dame playing anybody else except UD or WSU.

I think Baker was more of a luxury. Looking ahead to next year with Amzil, Holmes, Sissoko, Zimi, small ball with Blakney as a 4. There's plenty of young options there
Going into next year I think the real need is a veteran guard especially one can shoot.

Right now for guards next year: Weaver, Cohill, Frazier, Brea, Mali Smith
One proven guy on the offensive side of things. Seems to me a JUCO/Transfer who can shoot and score is a need and could bridge the gap till Luke/Koby/Mali are ready
