Miami of Florida Game
Based upon reading the stats, a couple web sites and the Miami of Florida web site, here is what I learned. Miami of Florida is picked 12th out of 15 teams in their ACC conference. The vast bulk of the scoring production comes from three guys, Moore (5'11"), Wong (6'3") and McGusty (6'5"). They played 10 different guys in each of the last 3 games; so they are deep in talent. They have some timber on this team, 7'0", 6’11, 6'10", 6'9" and two guys 6'7". But, the 7'0" guy and the 6'11" guys, don't play much. All of their "bigs" seem to be thin in weight. So, we don't have any 270 pound or 275 pound big men to deal with like in the last couple games. McGusty scored 28 points in a previous game. Their record is the reverse of Dayton's record. They are 3-1. Their coaches Larranaga and assistant coach Caputo, seem to know Anthony Grant and his coaching style. They were both at George Mason and know Grant during his time at VCU. Miami of Florida seems to think that Dayton will full court press them on defense. Their head coach seems to think that Miami of Florida plays better in the first half than they play in the second half. He is focused on fixing that issue with his players.

Hoping for a Thanksgiving surprise and I don’t mean at dinner. First away game and an opportunity. Come on Flyers, do this.

This was just what the doctor ordered to get some confidence.
Dayton is still young and weak. Miami is older and weak. We are learning what we do well and don't do well. We are gaining the confidence that comes with some games under the belt and knowing our roles. Without our lack of physical maturity being such a contrast with Miami, you could see a lot more of our talent and potential as a team.
I still look for us to struggle mightily against physically mature teams. We just don't have that yet. But we will get away from being the total disaster we were in the first five games.
I'm glad that Smith played well. He needs to keep moving to make up for his size. He can be a press-beater, but he can't stop. He also is showing me leadership skills. Give him some time and I think he will be a captain of the team.

So, our secret to success is to schedule teams that can't shoot! I've been lamenting the Flyers inept 3-pt shooting, but Miami appears to be in much worse shape. Kansas won't be this kind.
Glad to see Nwokeji back. I'm glad we have a deep bench. Quite a few of our guys really alternate between looking bad one minute and good the next. I'm already beginning to wonder if Malachi will improve so much from year-to-year that he becomes an early departure prospect.
And....many kudos to the coaches for the improvement seen in these last two games. My hope for a better than 5th finish in the league is reviving.

The U was an excellent selection for a slump buster?
