Brea not on Bahamas trip

Not sure if others caught this in Jablo’s story in DDN this morning.

Brea did not make the trip and will not play in the tournament. Still suffering from viral infection.

Another opportunity for Kaleb Washington to step up. Will he take advantage of it?

Zimi, Washington and Amaefule will need to play expanded minutes since team is playing 3 games in 3 days.

This seems cruel almost. He hasn't even been eligible how could he have stepped up? Has he even logged a single minute of play? If our solution to no Brea for this holiday tournament is "maybe Kaleb will step up" we are royally screwed. Kaleb would have to get into a game before he could step up. Also I'm no Kaleb Washington expert but I don't recall him being a 3-pt. specialist!

I don't think its a solution, its a forced reality. Is what it is. Certainly an opportunity for Kaleb.

Isn’t the reason he hasn’t played an unforced error on his part?

He did have an opportunity to step up in previous games but was suspended. If you don’t view that as an opportunity lost, not sure what else I can say.

Bottom line…he should get minutes in this tournament and the team needs a high level of play from him. He doesn’t need to be a 3-pt specialist to replace Brea; others can hit shots. He just needs to do what he does best.

As I said in another thread, if Kaleb does get a chance, I think it will be with a short leash.

I don't like having Brea out for the obvious reason that he is a big 3pt threat that helps us spread the floor. Sharavjamts is becoming someone to watch on the perimeter now. He is 9 of 20 from the 3pt line so far this year for 45%. Amzil is doing OK at 37.5%. We need Mali to hit some out there. Blakney is due. I think Camara has some 3pt potential as well. Elvis is much better than his current 26% rate. He will come around.

Wow. I hope KB is OK. I heard he was so sick with the flu he had to check himself into the hospital before the last game. Its a shame he had to miss this trip.

If the Badgers are a typical Badger team, the Flyers are going to need to hit some 3 pointers today because they are usually a great defensive team. The good news is that they typically play low scoring games so not as many will be needed.

And yes, Mike can be Brea's replacement in that area. With Amzil, Blakney and Elvis you never know what your going to get shooting the ball from one game to the next. Hopefully at least 2 of them have a good game from behind the Arc. I'm convinced that Mali is not going to take more than one or two of them a game as he sees his job as setting others up before himself like a great PG should. Plus it's not his strong suit.

I think this game is going to come down to if they can get the ball in DaRon's hands and then being able to score from that point (whether it's himself taking it strong to the rim or good inside out play.

Also, if the Flyers do get a nice lead, especially within the last 8 minutes or so, they cannot let off the gas. I've seen too many Wisconsin teams lull opponents to sleep and then have a burst of offense when it matters.

Our best hope is that Wisconsin pulls a Bob Huggins and says "we're Wisconsin, we can guard whatever interior players Dayton has 1-on-1."

True. Wisky has size, but we have agility, and we need to use that to our best advantage.

Another factor will be if the refs call it tight or loose. Tightly officiated favors us. “Let ‘em kill each other” favors the Badgers.

I came down with the flu yesterday. This strain is no fun: chills, achy head to toe, headache, upset stomach, stuffed up nose, cough, can't sleep, feel very weak, fever, lightheaded.

Go get the flu shot, you don't want this. I did not get the flu shot, but I should have.

I can see why he had to go to the hospital, this is pretty bad, haven't been this sick in a good while, I can't shake it. I normally just fight thru this stuff, but this just zaps your energy. I can't imagine trying to play a d1 basketball game feeling like this.

The players, coaches, staff all just need to stay away from him until he is better, this is contagious, I got it from another member of my household, otherwise half the team won't be able to play.

Good move not taking him to the Bahamas, it would have spread thru that airplane.
