Um, no. Northwestern is 9-1 I believe this year. That's a good game for many, many reasons if it happens.

It's a game for all the Chi-town boys to play in front of family and friends. I will bet that UD fans buy the most tickets.

BTW, Northwestern projected to be 60-90 in RPI this year and right now about 60 in kenpom. Assuming they are a similar team next year, I like a semi-away game versus a top 100 opponent.

Um, yes. RPI of 76 and schedule rank of #279. Their big win is over Missouri, who is 5-4 and #102. Two of their top scorers and rebounders are seniors.

For sure Northwestern could have played a tougher OOC. You are not alone in criticizing it. Here is an interesting read on their program, scheduling philosophy, and where they are in year 3 of a rebuild: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...16-column.html

Interesting to note it says the aim is to schedule an "accomplished program" at the United Center next year. So that's a complement for Dayton.

Anyway, Northwestern may finish on the wrong side of the bubble this year, but I like Northwestern's chances next year to FINALLY break the drought with a tourney appearance. Finishing middle of their conference standings is what I think you'll get from them over the next few years. Very good, winnable game for Dayton. I would certainly rather play them than Miami!

I'd go visit my folks for this one. As a Chicago suburb transplant to Cincinnati, this is fun. I actually remember seeing Simeon take on Benet at UIC Pavilion where Frank Kaminsky faces off against Jabari Parker. That game drew over 8,000 fans.

NW V UD will draw at least 10k fans... which is unheard of for these types of games.

9 road A10 games, 3 neutral tourney games, at Alabama, and at/neutral NW...that is 14 road/neutral games, so that should do it as far road/neutral games are concerned per the normal UD scheduling routine.

Add in about 5 buy games, 9 home A10 games, and 2 home Big 5-type games, of which Vanderbilt is one, and the schedule is done.

All that's left to reveal at this point is who the buy games and the other Big 5-type home game will be.

Key to improving the home schedule to any great degree is the quality of the buy games, or finding another h/h with a team willing to start at UD. We are at UA and away to NW(hopefully). Room for a quality h/h starting at the Arena.

I agree, and believe our OOC schedule is fine. Pride has us as #5 with SOS of 8. Simply saying that further schedule improvement could include a h/h starting at home and better buy games. Our SOS will take a hit in the next three games, although the Hogs were a fine addition to the schedule, just having a rough year. We have been fortunate that most of our OOC opponents have done really well. Furman at 316, SEMSU at 292 and the Redhawks at 250 are opportunities to improve. I believe the Flyers will always try to improve the overall schedule. Can't do much about the conference but there is wiggle room in the OOC.

Personally I hope they keep two of those games. If every OOC game is P5 or top 150, the schedule is too much a meat grinder. You need softer games out of exams and out of exempt tourneys.

Agree, the buy games were good this year, you will get more media attention though if you add one more big 5-type home and home in replacement of one of the buy games. Also, scheduling good buy games is a bit of a gamble, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Scheduling big 5-type games is less of a gamble if you can find a willing partner. Finally, the jury is still out on what the final sos will be, some sites have it in the 30's, others have it in the 70's. It was around 93? or 122? last year I think, not sure which site below is correct.

It wouldn't surprise me if UD tries to beef up the schedule next year. Even to the extent of giving up a buy game for this game in Chicago plus an ESPN game against a "traditional national power" as an away game.

I think AM thinks next year could be one of those "magical" seasons. Given the returning talent pool, it is not inconceivable for UD to start the year in the teens and crack the top 10 early and stay there for an extended time. Why not challenge the senors next year with a very rigorous non conference schedule?

We'll see...but I'm going to enjoy the ride this year first!

rpiforecast updated their projected sos for UD after playing projected #182 Miami.

The sos projection is now 55, so I don't think their sos projection is reliable until the end of the season. They were projecting a sos in the 30's earlier, that projection should not have jumped 20 spots over the past couple/few weeks if it was really accurate.

Other sites were projecting a sos in the 70's, those sites are probably correct. While I don' think a sos in the 70's is great, it is obviously an improvement over last year's sos that was either #93 or #122, depending on the site you look at.

This is actually a pretty good get. NW is rebuilding under former Duke assistant Chris Collins.

Sophomore forward Vic Law, who Dayton I think recruited, missed this year with shoulder surgery. He was a top 100 kid out of HS & had a nice freshman year.

Aaron Falzon who Dayton recruited is having a nice year for them as freshman and Bryant McIntosh is a sophomore and having a great year. They've got two 4 star kids on Rivals coming in as well

They lose Demps and Olah but they should still have a chance at being a tourney team next year plus you add the nice bonus of getting all the Chicago kids a game in their hometown and I think this works out pretty well

Doesn't "rebuild" imply something was previously built? 0-76 in making NCAA tournament isn't much of a building.

The thing I love about the Northwestern game is playing in Chicago. Great for our current guys and in terms of recruiting. If possible, I'd love to play someone in the Chicago area every year to keep all that momentum...

So I think I would try to round out next year's schedule by offering Valparaiso a h/h starting at the arena. They are very good, pretty young roster, and Bryce Drew is getting some very good recruits (like Rick Smits' kid). Not a P5 or huge name, but I think that program is just in really good shape, and worth that kind of commitment for the next 2 years. Especially because they are kind of, sort of Chicago area. Of course, I am sure some will say Dayton shouldn't offer anyone from the Horizon a h/h, but I think they are deserving.
