Conference Rank: #2 Colonial Athletic Association 2009-10: 17-15, 12-6
2009-10 postseason: CIT
Coach: Jim Larranaga (246-157 at George Mason, 443-327 overall)
Final Projection:
Arguably, this is George Mason’s most talented team since their Final Four run in 2006. The bigger issue is how good will the rest of the conference perform during the 2010-2011 season? If the CAA does well, this could be a two bid league. But as long as George Mason takes care of business most of the time, they could end the campaign second to ODU in the conference standings and in the conference tournament and still be squarely on the bubble of the expanded NCAA Tournament.
Projected Post-season Tournament: NIT
Projected Starting Five:
Cam Long, Senior, Guard, 12.2 ppg
Andre Cornelius, Junior, Guard, 9.4 ppg
Isaiah Tate, Senior, Guard, 4.4 ppg
Ryan Pearson, Junior, Forward, 11.9 ppg
Mike Morrison, Junior, Forward, 8.5 ppg

George Mason Patriots
Last Season: 17-15 (12-6)
Key Losses: Kevin Foster, Louis Birdsong
Head Coach: Jim Larranaga
Projected Starting Lineup:
PG: Andre Cornelius 5-10 Jr.
SG: Cam Long 6-4 Sr.
SF: Luke Hancock 6-5 So.
PF: Ryan Pearson 6-6 Jr.
C: Mike Morrison 6-9 Jr.
Key Reserves: Isaiah Tate 6-4 Sr. SG, Sherrod Wright 6-4 So. SG, Johnny Williams 6-8 So. C, Bryon Allen 6-3 Fr. SG, Jonathan Alredge 6-9 Fr. C
Before Jim Larranaga took over at George Mason prior to the 1997-98 season, the Patriots had seven consecutive losing seasons dating back to the 1991-92 season. Minus his first year, Larranaga has had a winning record every year, including eight postseason tournament berths and four NCAA tournaments, headlined by the unforgettable Final Four run in 2006.
Last year was truly a "what if" year for George Mason. During the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament, George Mason jumped out to a 21-8 lead against 6th-ranked Villanova and held a four-point lead with 53 seconds left. However, late 3-pointers by Maalik Wayns and Isaiah Armwood stunned the Patriots for a 69-68 Villanova victory. They also lost by eight to Georgia Tech and by one to Dayton in the non-conference schedule. In conference play in the Colonial Athletic Association, George Mason started off on fire, winning 10 of its first 11 games. The Patriots fell apart by losing five of seven to finish conference play. These losses included a four-point loss at.............

Dayton gets the tip, throws the ball away, and gives up a 3. Great start.

So far so good. They scored 6 of their 10 on long threes. They are not going to win this game shooting threes. We got one fast break bucket. I would like to see more. CW will need to get involved in the offense as well.

OK - GMU has had six team fouls for the last ten minutes. Why can't we get some people to the foul line???

GMU went on a 12-2 run....we have a chance to tie it up. Anyone notice, that CW and JS have barely been in this game together? What is BG thinking subbing these guys out at different times to where they are barely on the court together??? Now, CW with 2 fouls.

Leading by 8, 40 - 32. Glad to see Luke return and glad CJ is healthy enough to play. Hope CW is a presence. GMU gave us a scare last year in the second half after we built a nice lead, but CW had foul trouble.

Best game as a Flyer. His floor game has been exceptional. He has not taken a bad shot that I can remember. 5 or 6 assists, maybe 2 turnovers.

Now, let's do it again on New Year's Day.
Juwan had a very good game with 16 points and 5 assists. Also, he received an education that will pay off later this year. Probably player of the game.

When you win the game, beat the spread, out-rebound a good rebounding team, out-shoot a good shooting team, make a high percentage of freethrows---it's a work of art.

Looked ugly at times but I'll take it. Clutch FTs at the end by Devin. Let's get New Mexico on Saturday

There should be nothing to complain about!!! Two quality teams slugging it out for 40 minutes. We continue to grow!

This was a typical Dayton game. A nail biter all the way through. We would go up by ten and then within a minute the margin was only five. We would go on a run and something would happen (ex. Paul Williams pass under our own basket). In the second half we maintain a lead as each of our big men come up with 3 or 4 personal fouls. (I'm sitting there watching and worrying, what if they tie us and CW, DS, MK, and JB all foul out.)
PS - The officiating was horrific both ways!!!

Not me, but most fans were just moving up to the rim. It was packed.
Good tough win. Could have closed out a little better, but a win over a good team is a good win-and they are definitely improving as a team.
