Chris Daniels
Today is always a day of mixed emotions for me. It was 21 years ago that we lost one of our own, Chris Daniels. The day will forever remain in my memory as one of the saddest days of my life. Such a fine young man pulled from us well before his prime. I am not one to often question God’s logic, but this has always been one of them. What Chris brought to the basketball court was only surpassed by what he brought to all of us off the court. He is and will always be missed.
What makes today a day of mixed emotions is what will happen later. There will be a time today where Alice Daniels and I will have our annual telephone call to talk about Chris. We do this every year and it is something that I really look forward to. There is always something that Alice mentions that brings a smile to my face concerning something Chris did and how it made us all a little better. There will come a time when one of us will not be here to have that conversation, but until then I will look forward to this day with both a tear in my eye and a smile on my face as I remember a good friend that left way too soon.

thanks for posting this every year. While certainly a sad memory, it brings back sharp memories of my freshman season, studying early in the morning with a friend for a test later that day. The state of disbelief in the moment was unreal, it sucks that the current generation of students got hit with the same shockwave last summer. RIP Big Fellas.

I was in my third year, living in Garden Apartments. I worked part-time at my co-op job in my "on school" semesters and I distinctly remember walking down the stairs and seeing a notification taped to our door with the news. I think that was my first, true "WTF?" moment.

This was one of those "I remember" moments. I was getting off the highway just as the 8:00 AM news was coming on WHIO, and that was their top story. I nearly ran the stop sign at the end of the ramp, I was so shocked. He had come to my daughter's grade school classroom at St. Rita not long before that, and at that point, he had become our favorite Flyer. And then, in the blink of an eye, he was gone.
Wishing peace and love to those he left behind, and eternal happiness to his soul. R.I.P., Chris. God love ya! ❤️

As a resident of Founders Hall my freshman year I saw Chris every day. He always said hi and he knew everyone's name, (we of course all knew who he was). We had a few classes together and I remember being surprised that he was always in class every day ay and participated, (because of my own incorrect assumptions about elite college athletes, not because there was anything about Chris that would lead someone to think he wouldn't be doing the right thing).
It would be big disservice to say he was "regular" so please understand what I mean when I say he was a "regular guy" who just happened to be an amazing basketball player. As many have said, as great player as he was he was an even better human being. I'm not lucky enough to say we were really good friends, but I feel extremely blessed to have known him for a couple years.
