NCAA Brain Farts
Was watching the New Mexico State/Auburn game. Down 2 with 6 seconds on the clock, the point guard for NMS drove the length of the court, had a wide open layup and passed it up just feet from the rim for a pass to a teammate for a three. Shot was missed, shooter was fouled and then proceeded to miss 2 of 3. Was he instructed to go for the win or did he just not know the score?
In the Belmont/Maryland game, down 1 with 19 seconds to go, the coach for Belmont has them go for a last second shot. They turn it over with 2 seconds left and lose without taking a shot. Why not attack and be ready for an offensive rebound?
Boy, would this board blow up with those two decisions.

That point guard was AJ Harris from Dunbar HS. I too was shocked when he gave up a wide open layup.

Dunbar and tOSU...and I believe he thought they were down 3. He had a wide open layup and never looked at the rim...he got past his defender and immediately passed in out for a 3.

The defense opened up like the parting of the Red Sea.

I was watching the Belmont/Maryland game and actually had Belmont on an upset in my bracket! Dylan Windler was having a great game (I think he scored 35 pts) and is Belmont's best player so with 19 seconds I figured they would put the ball in his hands and let him create a shot or drive to the basket and get fouled! Instead they crapped the bed and tried an errant pass too late to Windler with 2 seconds that was easily intercepted by Maryland.

That Harris play was a major gaffe. As to great plays - Morant for Murray was a joy to watch with his triple double.

What about Auburn fouling with 15 seconds left?

That Belmont play was a set play that had worked for them in the past. If you watch the video from when it works, it's a pretty cool play designed to look like the guard errantly picked up the dribble. It just didn't work this time.

Belmont runs that play all the time. Same play they used when they beat UCLA. If the defender doesn't tip the pass Belmont wins the game.

Watched it on replay late last night. Couldn’t believe it when I saw Harris give up a wide-open layup to kick it out for that 3 attempt. Mind-boggling.

Speaking of ESPN and brain farts, how come the VCU/UCF game does not show up on today's scores? Am I losing it or does anyone else see this glitch?
