Charlie Moore and Josh Cunningham played with Kyle Davis. Not the other way around.

Ray Harper has Kyle Davis sheets on his bed.

Casey Benson is an interesting name that just came on the market. Grad transfer PG from Oregon with just a year to play. Stats aren't eye popping but he's a steady PG who doesn't turn it over. He got some minutes in the Ducks Final Four run.

Justin Bibbins from Long Beach St might be worth a look. 5'8 PG

Bibbins was second team All-Big West for the second season after leading the Big West in assists (5.3) and free-throw percentage (89) while scoring 12.6 points per game. He also lead LBSU in steals and was second in 3-point percentage.

I watched Hughes play extensively in high school and I do not for a second believe that his numbers from last year are indicative of what he can be. He is a solid three-point shooter and he also can score off the dribble when needed. He played an instrumental role in leading his high school team to back-to-back DI Final Four appearances. Obviously he wouldn't be able to play next year, but I think that he could be an impact player for a program that is going to need some upperclass experience in the coming years. If Grant can get him to sign, I think he'd be a great pickup.

My guess is this is another father/son package deal.

Mike Bibby Sr. had been coaching high school in Arizona but is looking for a college or NBA job. Played his college ball at Arizona but didn't graduate so he's working on finishing that up (May graduation) to open the door to a college job.

http://www.azcentral.com/story/sport...ibby/97956372/

No obvious connection between Anthony Grant and Bibby Sr. except that Dayton seems to have both coaching positions and scholarships open. But I wouldn't expect it.

Considering Grant took over a team thats been to 4 tournaments in 4 years I don't think that should be surprising.

I think Gregory has 7 total players now - 4 holdovers, 2 grad transfers, and 1 high school commit. But there has been so much traffic into and out of that program, the USF athletics website doesn't even bother to attempt listing out a roster, save for the coaching staff.

If Dayton had hired Dan Muller, this transfer would be a hot topic over here I presume.

Agree. Seems like a guy coming from the NBA would be positioned well to pitch a 5th year grad transfer who is putting name in the draft but not hiring an agent. MiKyle McIntosh, Mark Alstork and Jaaron Simmons all fit that description.

I think adding in the fact we're coming off four straight NCAAs we can position ourselves well with some of the Power 5 schools after them.

Assuming Pierce sticks around if we could a couple of those guys we'd be in business for next year

Given their record last year, including only one conference win, maybe a complete do over isn't such a bad thing. They were awful last year.

I would absolutely love if we picked this kid up. I have seen him play 5-6 times in person and many more times on TV. He is basically a Pierre clone. Not great at any one aspect of his game, but very good in all parts. Can hit 35-40% from 3, 75% from the line at 6'7". My best friend has coached against Illinois State 4 of the last 5 years, and always mentioned that stopping him was key. Hawkins was their leading scorer, but McIntosh was their best player.

LaQuincy Rideau- 6’1” 210 lb SO PG from Gardner-Webb
29.1 mpg, 14.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 5.2 apg, 3.0 spg, 0.3 bpg, 3.4 tpg, .470 FG%, .579 FT%, .390 3P%

Laquincy Rideau was the leader of the surprisingly solid Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Builldogs. Gardner -Webb finished their season with 19 wins and a top 175 ranking per KenPom. Rideau was a huge part of that as he led the team in points, assists, steals, getting to the free throw line, and was second in rebounds. On offense, he used his surprising strength to push past defenders and get to the rim. Once he penetrated the defense, he was very adept at finding cutting teammates or open spot up shooters. He himself has good accuracy from range but it’s not his go to weapon. He would sometimes try to do too much himself, leading to his very high 3.4 tpg. On defense, he was an absolute terror. His quick hands could pick anybody’s pocket. He had the 4th highest steal rate in all of Division 1. And not just against Big South level competition. Against SMU, Pitt, and Nebraska, Rideau managed 15 steals…that’s 5 steals per game against high major offenses. In one game, he managed a double double with 15 points and 10 steals. He was three rebounds away from a triple double and 6 assists away from a quadruple double. Rideau could absolutely contribute at a high major program as a veteran ballhandler and a disruptive perimeter defender.

Surprised nobody is talking about Carlton Bragg. Ohio kid transferring out of Kansas. Every thing I have read is that he is looking to stay somewhat local in Ohio. Was reading on another site that Akron and Ohio State are the front runners with UC and UD listed as dark horses???

Oh well. Rock School guys are too one-dimensional anyway. Can't use their off hand to throw paper or scissors.

Curious if Ricardo Greer could bring LJ Figueroa, a kid who is originally from the Dominican Republic but is from Orlando, where Ricardo Greer has been at UCF....

He is the 23rd ranked Shooting Guard for the class of 2017, overall composite rank of 113. He committed to New Mexico State to play for Paul Weir, before New Mexico hired him away. While he has not played for New Mexico State, he has already enrolled at the university for the current spring semester which is why I am posting him here as a transfer prospect. There is speculation that he may also be a partial qualifier like Kostas and Big Steve were, but I have no idea what the rule would be on a partial qualifier who decided to transfer one semester into college, possibly without ever having participated in team basketball functions.

Jesse Bopp who was in the running for the New Mexico St was his lead recruiter there. Supposedly he's following Weir over to New Mexico

They haven't updated lately,

Corey Davis committed to LSU
Michael Miller committed to North Texas
Anthony Adger committed to Florida Atlantic
Deishuan Booker committed to Long Beach State

When I say things are moving fast in the spring it isn't just to bash AG

So it isn't JUST to bash AG. Good to know there are reasons in addition to bashing AG.

You told there's plenty of time and nothing to worry about spring recruiting.

I posted the verbalcommits link to transfers, the JUCO link here and other easily verifiable facts that say otherwise

Sorry the facts don't match up with your feelings

Has nothing to do with the facts of that list. The problem I have is that you have no problem openly admitting that you are bashing AG. You have been bashing him since the day he was hired.

What about LJ Figueroa? You are putting so many names out there I can't even keep up with them all! I can bet you Anthony Grant has a pt. guard in mind that will knock our socks off! Besides, Figueroa is a shooting guard. How do you know that Jordan Davis, who is already commited, is not a better player than LJ! These players that are in the 2017 transfer market are going to go to the schools that they feel are the best fit for them. Our program does not sink or swim because some other school prioritizes and grabs a player before our head coach or assistant coaches get a chance to do so!

Let me give you an example: In 2013 there were two pt. guards from New York City. UD wanted John Severe, who was an excellent player one on one but had a tendancy at times to be selfish with the basketball. Fordham swooped him up first maybe because he wanted to play in front of the home town crowd. UD assistant coach, Allen Griffin, recruited Dayshon Scoochie Smith after Severe went to Fordham. Who do you think got the best end of that deal! The rest is history!

Be patient with AG, OSU Flyer! Everything is going to be allright!

You gotta relax....In recruiting it's never the players you miss out on that cause you to suffer, rather, it's the guys you get that you rush into or really aren't sure of that you're stuck with for four years that can set back the program...

The argument and assumption you are making don't seem reasonable; you don't have any idea what he has done. The schools that the kids you are mentioning have committed to would indicate that we probably weren't interested in (m)any of them anyway.

Nobody on this board is going be cheering if we are winning recruiting battles against FAU. If that is the best the JUCO route has to offer, I would much rather have a grad transfer for 1 year than be stuck for 2 with one of them... even if it meant playing a combo guard at point for the 1 year.

You speak as if you have inside info that nobody has even made a phone call yet. I can understand having SOME discomfort and doubting some of the people posters with rosier dispositions but of all the Eeyores on the board, you are by far the Eeyoriest.

Jeesh, between Dallas and OSU this thread has been enjoyable and informative to read lately. Until some skirts got ruffled today. Suck it up. Their participation and back-and-forth is why people subscribe here.
Just because the guy is in disapproval of the way things have transpired under the new coach, is a good reason to debate him.... He even welcomed it. But dont insist that his sample size isnt big enough or that he has no reason to voice his concern just because your opinion of the same sample size makes more sense to you. It's all speculation.
Yours, saying he has no reason to be concerned. What happens if AG doesnt make any good choices? I want to hear about it. I dont care what all the prudes and apologists (some notable ones above) say burns their ears or hurts their pride. Or bunches their panties. OSUFlyer, you're a better poster than me. I appreciate your brand of bringing it. I've said harsher things about AG and how his priorities seem to be more 'steady as she goes' rather than how I interpret the pace should be going. And i trust that when M21 or someone else brings up after AG finally does land some prospects that OSUFlyer or someone can review back to this thread to track how some of these players shake out in the meantime. So be prepapared to learn down the line that a few of these guys are real players. And we have members who are concerned about it. There was a comment that went by the board recently that AG will recruit better players than AM. That will never happen. He could get higher rated players maybe, if that's what he's looking to do. You know, trust recruiting services over his own ability to assess a player? Someone else wants to bash Archie rather than bash AG in this thread. Go for it. But dont try to restrict the voice of the people just because it doesn't make your approval.

Yes, the Umass kids aren't an option. Noteworthy due to same league but not an option.

That is an interesting comment considering all the bashing of several AM players during the last several months. I'm not saying he will, but I'm certainly not saying he won't. I hope he does.

I'd much rather you go instead. You've said many times how youre in direct contact with these evaluators and how youre close to these situations and so on. But being honest I have never seen anything credible that can be attributed to you. You pat backs and blow smoke up people's azzes but as far as credible info...pffffft.

I certainly hope he does. It's my chief concern. Will he recruit the type player that has the capacity to develop into a great player. I will ultimately judge AG by how his players develop. I can overlook a lot of warts on a coach if he recruits winners whose ceilings are a good distance away from their floors. Seeing that come to fruition would signify to me that Anthony is a quality talent evaluator, and developer.

There is a limit in what can be done in such a short period of time, Anthony and Kevin have almost a free pass for this year. I am happy that at least two of the commitments will be playing in the arena later this year

Someone made a comment that what hurts your program the most are the players you misjudge and give scholarships to that cannot help your program. That is a four year impact and is the most important thing to avoid right now

It would be better to have two players come in this year than have six if four of them are question marks. I would be happy with any of the players who were previously committed but don't take a chance on someone who is unlikely to be a starter.

Quality transfers or even jucos are a better option because they won't be with the program as long

IF we don't sign a point guard it will be DD playing point this year unless they play kostas at point forward. he is very very inexperienced to assume this role right out of the gate

There is a block feature. If you don't like what I contribute then block me. I will not lose a wink of sleep if you do. I know who I am friends with, who I have worked with, and know what I can and cannot share. I am not going to debate my connections. This isn't a ****ing contest.

As far as OSU Flyer, I had discussions with him in other threads such as the coaching search thread and the AG thread. I have no problem debating with him. While I do not typically agree with his opinion on the current topics, I have enjoyed the debate with him and his point of view. But there is a way to debate without constantly bashing and openly admitting they are bashing someone without giving them a chance.

Wichita State PG Daishon Smith will transfer. Sit one, play one. Switch the i to a y so it is spelled Dayshon and tell him he must accept Scoochie as a nickname, and it'll be almost like he never left!

I saw Alstork play a couple times this year. He makes Cooke look like the ultimate team player. He is a shoot first, shoot second, shoot third, maybe pass as a fourth option type of player. He forced a lot of bad shots. His numbers dropped as the season went on.

And this is why he is leaving the school in Beavercreek is my guess. Sounds like he talked to the coach about how many shots he would get next season to help his professional prospects and didn't like what he heard.

The combo could be great. They are friends so wouldn't put it past them to want to play together. As both have submitted for but will inevitably withdraw from the draft, it does seem like an opportunity for them to get closer to realizing their NBA goals by working for a coach who has just come from the NBA ranks. Plus they could really become legends in their hometowns by taking Dayton on another tourney run. So it all looks good on paper, but it looks like it has almost no chance of happening unfortunately.

Alstork has a visit set for Pitt on May 5, and per a tweet from a Michigan beat reporter yesterday, he is looking at Michigan, Louisville, Georgetown, South Carolina and Illinois. He transferred once already (Ball State to Wright State) to play in his hometown, and there has been zero indication from anyone that he would consider another year (but this time under the brightest lights) in Dayton.

As for Simmons, it seems there has at least been some communication between his camp and Dayton's in recent weeks. Years ago when Simmons transferred from Houston to Ohio, there were reports that Simmons wanted Dayton, but the interest wasn't mutual then. Now, it may be a case that Dayton wants Simmons, but Simmons isn't all that interested in UD. I have seen some rumblings that Michigan and Ohio State both covet him. Perhaps Michigan will pull off the Alstork/Simmons combo?

While Alstork and others are doing plenty of talking about their plans, Simmons has said virtually nothing. It's really very hard to say how much communication is happening between Simmons and anyone as there is a lot of uncertainty regarding Jaaron's release. Has he asked for one? Does he have it already? Some Ohio U fans seem to think he has it. Some seem to think he doesn't have the release yet. He hasn't publicly announced anything, and neither has the school, but they don't have to announce anything and sometimes don't.

Here is a transfer that looks like he fits AG's system, Quincy McKnight from Sacred Heart. 6'3 guard that averaged 19ppg, 5rb, 3a, and most importantly 1.6spg. While it was Shaka that may have coined Havoc, it was AG that started the aggressive defense at VCU. With that said, I am sure there will be a long line of teams after this guy.

So we should just start offering anyone a scholarship? I can't believe some would want us to offer just for the sake of offering. These guys know a heck of a lot more about recruiting than anyone on this site. Let them do their jobs.

Did he run the point for them? Can't tell. He certainly had a lot of assists.

Michigan also looking. They are out of ships though. Donlon is at UM. Alstork went to Thurgood so perhaps he wants to stay local. And of course Thurgood is coached by Hoskins.

Cough cough

Pat Lawless tweeted an update/correction to his earlier Alstork tweet. It was actually an on campus visit at UD and not an in-home visit.

Even before Simmons, Michigan has 13 scholarship players and 2 other PG according to verbalcommits.com. I wonder who Michigan would run off to get Simmons on the roster.

They've got two guys testing the draft waters but I'm not sure if they come they're at 13 or over

Maybe Xavier Simpson is getting recruited over at PG

I will almost be glad just to not hear Jaaron Simmons' name anymore. A lot of people were acting like he was a foregone conclusion to come to UD, when I knew that we would probably be the last place he would want to go considering we passed on him the first time around.

Previous regime passed on him the first time around and the second time around.

But I think the same might be said about Mark Alstork....

Somebody once told me John was gonna leave us
He ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
Coach Grant was looking kind of dumb with his finger and his thumb
In the shape of an "L" on his forehead

Then coach Grant starts calling and he won't stop calling
says "Mark, come play, we need your balling
It'd make sense for you to come
Leave your hometown? Now that's just dumb.
Take a few calls, but pick UD.
Nothing wrong with taking that schollie.
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow."

Hey now, we need Alstork, get your game on, go play
Hey now, we want Alstork, the draft can wait, you'll get paid
So lose the green and gold
Point guard shooting star, fill the role!

It's a cool place and they say it gets colder
The crowd's bundled up now, but they're much older
Guess the weather man called for a sweater
Come this season, they'll look a little redder
but that bench is looking real thin
Arch is long gone but they still want to win
Need a point man; Alstork's the guy
He's the one we want, and we would never lie.

Hey now, we need Alstork, get your game on, go play
Hey now, we want Alstork, the draft can wait, you'll get paid
So lose the green and gold
Point guard shooting star, fill the role!

Hey now, we need Alstork, get your game on, go play
Hey now, we want Alstork, the draft can wait, you'll get paid
So lose the green and gold
Point guard shooting star

Somebody once asked: "how come the Nuthouse smells like a$$?"
Mark needs to get himself away from that place
Red sweater vest, what a concept!
I prefer a jersey myself
But we could all use a little change

And coach Grant keeps calling and he won't stop calling
says "Mark, come play, we need your balling
It'd make sense for you to come
Leave your hometown? Now that's just dumb.
Take a few calls, but pick UD.
Nothing wrong with taking that schollie.

Now Simmons is out. The other two are getting attention from high majors. If we strike out on all three someone around here is going to have some explaining to do...

Me thinks there are fewer PG options out there than people think...

gee ... I didn't realize that there were only 4 point guards left in the whole world..... Guess we ought to cancel the season! Quite frankly, if the first two were to come to UD and end up starters, then we would be lucky to win more games than we lose..... Just my $.02.
