Jalen to test the NBA process and declare
Jeff Goodman
@GoodmanHoops
Dayton’s Jalen Crutcher told @Stadium he will test the process and declare for the NBA Draft. Junior point guard averaged 15.1 points and 4.9 assists per game this season.

This is a test of the NBA Emergency Draft system. This is only a test. If this had been an actual draft emergency you would have been instructed on what to do. This is only a test. We now return you to your originally scheduled off season speculation.

Not surprising, wonder what kind of feed back he'll get. Haven't seen him on any NBA projections, so I assume he'll be back for his senior season. Ibi should do the same. Frankly all players should, but I'm guessing some so far off the NBA roster would just be told they don't have any feedback to offer cause they aren't wasting their time?

Good move. Most of the evaluators are already familiar with his game from previously seeing him in person during practices and games. Now he'll be able to get direct feedback.

is he going to able to get much feedback? Seems like in person workouts, combines, etc will be shut down for the indefinite future

I do think that Jalen will return to UD, but picturing next season's team without him is not pretty.

I too expected this to happen. Why the heck not...especially after Obi taking this route last year has worked out so well. Every card UD & Obi played in his career since high school was spot on.
All NBA team sent scouts to see Obi play this year. That means they also saw Jalen. I don’t know if scouts are allowed to talk to players when they come to practice or games? But I’m confident Obi would have talked up his teammates, and especially Jalen when the opportunity presented itself.
Jalen will be back next year. Too much unfinished business that will only raise his stock as a professional. It was the right long-term career decision for Obi last year and will be the same for Jalen.
In the mean time, go get as much exposure and feedback as you can soak up.

@JonRothstein
Sources: Several NBA teams are preparing to make their selections for the 2020 NBA Draft based on Skype interviews and prior in-person scouting. Many are moving forward with the expectation of no combine, no workouts, and no in-person interviews.
No harm in doing this but I think this is gonna have less value than it did for Obi

to Jalen. He had a great season. I do think he'll be back for his senior year.

Smart move - we want a Flyer in next year's draft - I believe it will happen. FYI McKinley Wright (the guy who Jalen replaced) has done the same thing.

Jalen isn't going anywhere yet. He'll be back. Another year of working on his game might get him in the NBA.
And this is a wonderful opportunity for CAG. What he did this season was allowed Obi to showcase himself without being at the expense of the team winning. It takes unselfishness on everybody's part to do this and Jalen and the rest of the team proved they are willing to do that this season. I would expect Jalen's scoring to maybe take a hit this season while his assist numbers get higher. And when you do that with in the confines of winning, it pays dividends all around.
This is what I hope to see from the Flyers from now on. Players improving toward NBA potential while not also being in direct conflict to winning. I personally think that was a problem with one player a few years ago. CAG and Obi proved it doesn't have to be that way.

It's easy to forget just how good Crutcher is when you have NPOY. Our guards were really, really good this year.
You couldn't dream up a better combination for a pick-and-roll than Peanut Butter and Jelly. Darn near indefensible.

I think 100 games on recordings ought to be enough for any good scout to evaluate. Plus an input from AG who has been in the NBA coaching ranks recently. The tentacles of scouting has infinite reach.
What I wonder is who will miss who the most? Obi missing Jalen and his lobs, Or Jalen missing octopus Obi catching and finishing?

Going through the draft evaluation really helped Obi big time.
Last summer, he told me of some of the feedback that he got during his evaluation. It was excellent for him. it motivated him as well.
With the virus thing, not sure if Jalen will be able to work out for NBA teams. If he does, he could receive some valuable information to help him.

Was going to say similar.
It is in our best interest if we have at least one player every year good enough to seriously take advantage of the process.

Were it not for a guy named Obi, Jalen Crutcher may have been A10 Player of the Year. He didnt have quite the numbers as others, but he was not asked to carry an entire load either. When his number was called, his moments were as good as anybody in the league including Obi. Nobody on the perimeter was a bigger nightmare in terms of making plays and making BIG plays.
Anyone can make plays in the first 10 minutes. Can you make them in the last 5 minutes? He was efficient, smart, unselfish, and probably commands more respect in the A10 than any other player right now. Not because of how much he does, but what he does and how he does it. Opponents cannot stand him. He has that YGBSM eyeroll reaction from onlookers.

Don't know if it's been posted elsewhere. Jalen Crutcher interview yesterday on Memphis radio.
