Edwin Young
I'm watching the St. Bonnie- UMass game and Edwin Young is a ref in this game. I wonder if he is allowed to ref any UD games?
It has been a long time since I thought about Young, so I looked him up and forgot he holds the UD Arena record going 18-18 from the FT line in one game. Glad to see him reffing D1 basketball.

I was watching that. He was not the one who T'd up Kellogg. Edwin was playing peacemaker between Kellogg and the other ref. Kellogg was hot and Edwin did a great job defusing the situation.

I'm sure he wouldn't want to do a UD game and let's hope it never happens. I would be afraid it would have a negative effect because he'd be worried about perception. He probably shouldn't ref any game that has a direct or indirect effect on the Flyers either. Basically, he shouldn't be in the A10. Not because he'd cheat, but any crucial close call he makes that would have a positive effect on the Flyers would be an issue.

Edwin worked the Richmond/VCU game today (1/16). VCU won in overtime. He didn't help us.

He did get to be the guy to call the technical on Richmond near the end of regulation for having 6 guys on the court!

Ud had him in to do the red/blue game or a exhibition one year which I think is pretty neat. I understand him not being around when the bullets are live, but I'd like coming back to do something like that if I were him.

Yes, and he has come back a couple of times to do the red/blue game. He gets a very good round of applause from the crowd. Most of us remember him. He was a good, tough PG.

Edwin Young was one of the officials at last night's OSU @ Illinois game. BIG10 officials make >$3000/game so he's doing pretty well for himself as you can assume he's doing 4-5 games/week.
For the record, he didn't make any bad calls.

EY is working up the officiating ranks...I recall his days doing Ohio HS games, then he was assigned more than a few Horizon League games including many at Nutter. There's another official with local connections who's moved up quickly: Chad Barlow. Here's a guy who officiated my kids CYO and AAU games in the 2004-07'ish and I spotted him working the OSU vs Nebraska game last week. His dad Lee was a longtime OHSAA official and a great guy.

I feel like there is a rule about former players reffing their alma mater's games. I've seen him do the red and blue. I feel like there must be a rule about this, or he's just choosing to never ref UD games, since I don't think he ever has.

I’m pretty sure The Blanket has officiated a handful of our games over the years, because I remember seeing him on the court, in uniform, at some point in the last 5-7 years. And no, I didn’t have any problems with any of his calls, and I thought he did a great and unbiased job.
