Golden DNutz - St. Bonnie
Archie almost earned himself a permanent Golden Rollo tattoo with his lack of focus and coaching in the 2nd half, but My Team held on for a good road win.
Who is the hero? You know, the Golden DNutzer...

DP for MVP. He was the only one who could make free throws in what became a tight game.

Schoochie is straight arming foul shots & Cooke not focused.
Need some 1:1 time with Archie on foul shots.
Take Pierre out and team 13 for 23 or 57% ...
Take Pierre and Kyle out and team 9 for 18 or 50%.
Cooke and Schoochie need to do better than 7 for 14 from foul line ...

This one is as much a no brainier as the last one.
DP wins hands down. He was tough as nails. An island of stability on a team that was heading downhill fast with no gear, clutch or brakes.

I kept hoping they could get DP the ball on each foul at the end. He's the only reliable FT shooter. Charles runs hot or cold. Whew! That was scary!

Amen, ruechalgrin! We need backcourt/wing starters (and Juniors) to hit at least 70%, game-in and game-out. When the broadcast feed posted the obligatory "Who do you foul?" graphic and it showed Scoochie was just ahead of (gulp) Pollard, I got a cold chill. Granted, when you grow up with Smitty as your lead guard, and B-Rob is still a fresh memory, others will pale in comparison. But 68% FT shooting from your PG just won't cut it in The Dance.

The bad part was that Scoochie kept wanting and getting the ball at the end. He looked very tired, and put little leg push into those foul shots. In retrospect get the ball the Kyle more.

After watching Pierre the past 2 games, I'm really getting "sentimental". Rollo, is there a way you can just auto vote Pierre for me each game from here on out on the Dnutz? I'll still exert the effort myself for the Rollos.

I picked Pierre, but man, Cooke just keeps getting 20+ points a game. He's the quietest volume scorer we've ever had.

Donald Smith in a limited NBA career may be the only NBA player to never miss a free throw- granted it was only like 17 or 18 foul shots...
Donald Smith - still my all time favorite
Damon Goodwin - nearly as good at the line
Brian Roberts - a close Third at the charity stripe

Where's CJ fall? Gotta be 4th right?
Actually(and I never knew this), 17 for 17 or 18 for 18 is very impressive for my namesake. You'd think there would be some nerves when first performing in the big show. The man was a machine when it came to shooting anything.

With the Golden DNutz Awards piling up in his trophy case, is it possible that Pierre will be the 2015-16 My Team MVP?

DP is shooting 96% on the year, 24/25. WOW.
DD, Steve, and Miller are all at or above 80% with a reasonable number.
Cooke, leading the team in attempts, is at a not-terrible 71%. But not good.
Pollard next in attempts, pretty much "turrible" at 55%.
SS next in attempts, not terrible at 67% but definitely not good at all.
Anyone notice Cooke is shooting 46% from 3? Is that leading the A10?

Crazy. He was not a particularly good 3 point shooter at JMU. Probably getting a lot better looks from the perimeter at Dayton.

He had a year for AM to give him the same class he gave Sibert, only AM was probably a more polished teacher this time.

He also just matured, stronger legs = more consistent shot, more maturity, etc.

Since you guys are talking free throws and Donald Smith... as a kid at Don Donoher's basketball camp, Donald Smith came in one day to speak to all of us on the art of free throw shooting.
What was amazing was that he made 10 in a row right handed, and then 10 in a row left handed.
He then stepped back to the top of the key... and made 5 in a row right-handed, and then 5 in a row left-handed (same form, same motion as from the free throw line).
Then Donoher told him to stop showing off.

That last line was kind of confusing. A typo I assume. Great post though and very believable for anyone that saw him play.

I don't agree he's bigger. Maybe marginally. Not materially. Cooke is built, much less motion needed to get the ball up to the rim.
DD went through an unconscious stretch in the middle of last year where he made something like 15 out of 18 or something silly like that. Anyone remember the numbers? Let's see how he finishes the year and see if his last 10 games are materially different from his last 10 games last year.

Term for it yes, but not a logical explanation for it.
I think maturity plays a part in 3 point shooting as it seems that seniors especially recognize when they're not able to get off a smooth rhythm shot and don't take as many of those. You can pretty much tell by the way a player's stroke is whether it's going or not without waiting to see the result.
But I think what's more in play here is AM. Sibert credits him with his success at it. DMO was irritating all of for his first 3 seasons but at least improved each year under AM.
So here's what I see. A player like Pierre and DD come in and light it up from 3 in their freshman seasons. They both drop significantly in their sophomore years. AM doesn't bother teaching them anything until then because you don't fix in the offseason what doesn't seem to be broken. DD will probably come back strong next season. Pierre's junior season found him improving but not enough data as circumstances dictated him not being out that far. Now this season he's lighting up.
So I think it's teaching and maturity. Physical strengthening has nothing to do with it.

I think D. Davis is hurrying too many shots. When he can catch, be set, and shoot he seems to bury them.

I don't see how having stronger legs can have "nothing to do with" shooting, but if that's your theory go for it.
