Steve McElvene/ 2019 Rose Parade
Steve is one of the honorees on the Indiana Donate Life float in tomorrow's parade.
His likeness is in a florograph on the float. His mother and other family members are in Pasadena and took part in decorating the float. She posted some pictures on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=3&theater
This is the FB post by his aunt when he was selected.
"Thank you to everyone that will take the time to read this post! God is currently allowing another event to take place to celebrate Steven Mcelvene’s life. I know we as his family and friends think about him all the time and we miss him so much but we must be thankful and grateful to organizations like the Indiana Donor Network!! In 2016 we lost Steve to a undiagnosed heart condition called Cardiomyopathy. Little had we (his family) known the day before he passed away he had signed up to be an Organ Donor. Upon making that decision Steve’s tissues have been available to help over 30 people! In times like these it’s hard to be selfish because there are still people in the world with pieces of him so his spirit truly does live on! Indiana Donor Network will be showcasing Steve’s Floragraph , which will be on the Donors float in the 2019 Rose Parade In California."
Thought many of you might like to see the float even though his picture probably won't be visible on TV. If you watch tomorrow, the float is either the 8th float or the 8th unit in the parade, so it should be fairly early in the parade.
I hope someday Mrs. Shoals is able to meet the people Steve helped.

Too late for this year, and Rollo, but if you ever make it out to Pasadena for the few weeks before the parade, stop into the hangars behind the stadium where they build the floats. They will blow your mind. The detail and skill involved to cover the floats with 100% natural materials is beyond comprehension, and almost all volunteers doing the work.

And I don't know if they still do it, but when I was there back in the 70's you could visit all the floats after the parade in some big park in Pasadena. You could get up close and see the incredible detail work. Free and fascinating.

Likewise. The stations started the coverage about 10 floats and bands back.

The float was 16th in the parade. In addition to the national coverage, I watched a local stream and saw Steve's floragraph. This link has the replay of that feed. Start watching at the 25 min mark, Steve's likeness is around 26th minute.

Rollo you really need to postpone early morning drinking on the street when you're out of town. (I know Oakwood does not allow street side drinking .... I think!)

Look under the Section 14 sign (above the OSU band) scroll down and the King is standing up, looking to his royal right, in the black OSU zip.
All Hale the Rose Bowl King!
