Georgetown board
In case anyone is interested, starting on page 7 Vee gets in the discussion and they all seem genuinely happy for him. One started asking for a Vee floater prior to the end.

It warmed my heart to read those posts. Vee is a quiet and humble person. I'm confident he was a good teammate at GU, and the fans appreciated him and wish him well.

Vee, Georgetown, etc
Smitty, thanks for that thread! Warmed my heart also-----no surprise that Vee made the same impression on the Georgetown folks as he made during his 3 years at UD. GREAT KID....Honestly, after reading all of the hate directed our way on the holy land site.......found it nice to see that some georgetoen folks could actually be happy for Vee and his part in the Flyers win over tOSU.

I've had a dislike for Georgetown since the elite 8 in 1984. Never cared for Ewing and I remember one of their players throwing the ball in Toney's face during pause in the action. But 30 years is enough, I like GU a lot more now. It's nice to have another fan base behind us.

I don't remember Graham throwing a ball in Toney's face. I remember him giving Toney a forearm shiver when Toney wasn't looking as the two were heading up the court. I real cheap shot. I just looked up Graham on the internet and he only played that one season at Georgetown before having academic difficulties. He bounced around the CBA for a few seasons. Here's one interesting fact...In April 2013, Graham won $1 million via a Powerball lottery ticket.

I remember that and lost all respect for Georgetown after that. Thompson coached a bunch of thugs back then.

I was a Senior in the Pep Band that year, and was at that game, 3 rows up from the court. Happened right in front of me, but out in the middle of the court. Laid Toney out on the court. A total cheap shot from a no-good punk (you might call him a Gangsta today). I remember heckling him and yelling for him to come over and take me on, if he was looking for a fight.
Toney wasn't his first victim, though. IIRC, he also tried to take-out Syracuse's Pearl Washington and at least 1 more player from 1 more team in that year's BE tourney. I've said for years that it was a shame that the only championship Thompson ever won with Ewing was the year he had a criminal (Graham) on the squad. IMHO, the way those teams played back then set the tone for the game we have today, with all the bumping, grabbing, and other crap that had been fouls before Hoya Paranoia.
On the brighter side, I also remember a play in the 2nd half of that game, when Ted Harris attempted a shot from at least 20 feet out. Ewing was in the lane, saw Ted getting ready to shoot, took one large stride in Ted's direction, and swatted that shot into the cheap seats. I turned to the guy next to me and said, "Walt - we're not winning this game."

Wasn't it Patrick Ewing that was bullying Toney at midcourt at some point in that game?

Can't remember. It wouldn't have surprised me, but the one I really remember was Graham's cheap shot, because that happened < 50 feet away from me, right in front of me. A$$hole!
That said, I've really been impressed with JTIII's program over the past several years. They seem to play with a lot more finesse and skill than Big Papa's teams had, back in the day.

There's a youtube of the first 9 minutes of that game and at some point it shows Ewing jawing with Velvet while Velvet was inbounding the ball. I think timeout was taken at that point and both players were still jawing with each other as they returned to the bench. Velvet with a smirk on his face Ewing with an angered look.
Also, not sure if it was Graham, and it might have happened after the Graham incident you described, but after a foul call, one of them tried to fire the ball in Toney's face. Not sure if it hit the target or Toney somewhat got his hands up in time to deflect it.

That's my video on YouTube. I have the whole game on tape. It was Graham who pushed Toney. Ewing was no saint either. Doing some jawing and a bit of shoving. Toney did get a ball in the face, but it wasn't a fired shot like what Chris Mack did. Maybe I'll watch the game again after the Final Four.

Just saw your clip. At @ the 14:15 mark of the 1st half, Georgetown made a basket, and the ball deflected off Young's hand toward Graham. Graham gave it an underhand swat in Toney's direction, and it caromed off Toney's shoulder & face. Chapman took exception to that and swatted it right back at Graham, and it hit him in the chest. At that point, Chapman and Graham obviously had words, the ref stepped in to "tell the boys to play nice", and they went to commercial.
Earnest Graham - what a turd!

They've shown Vee some love so I'm giving it back and rooting for them. Besides, they seem to dislike the ACC as much as I do!
